"I shall send you, my most trusted Argonian interpreter, to this region of great danger to stop Lysandus haunting Daggerfall and to get ahold of this confidential letter." "Uriel, shouldn't you be sending an actual professional, or a Blade, or--" "The ship leaves in two hours, don't dilly-dally."
There is a worse build than this. Build a character with every skill in a school of magic, but bar yourself from using magic. Basically less than useless.
More tips: Take useless advantages to balance out the skill dagger so you don't have to take the HP increase. Take 3X Magery advantage because again, you can't even use magic. Take Acute Hearing because it is stupid. Athleticism isn't that great either.
The moment when you see yourself in the stream chat beeing like : "I made a lasting mark in the society, i am mortal, but the message I sent is not", sadly I only saw a small part of the stream
39:22 In case you haven't learned this, Daggefall diseases actually have an incubation period, meaning your body can be holding a disease but not displaying symptoms, or you didn't pass the medical skill check to identify what you're sick with. So you can have an illness and not know it for a certain period of time before being able to identify it with Medical skill.
Haha, this stream was so annoying in that I know all this stuff, but becuase my brain is full of Arena knowledge, I've completely forgotten so much. Thanks for pointing that out, can't believe I forgot it XD
@@Flow86767 It's in the editing process. It was meant to be released the end of this month, but I have woefully underestimated how long it will take to edit a 6 hour+ video. Coming soon-ish
I really love the fact that, even though this build was complete and utter trash, it was still playable enough that you could grind training and stealing enough and make it at least playable. Lol that’s a sign of a genuinely good rpg, I’d say: you can practically lock yourself out of the game, but still find some workarounds and engage with other systems you may not have originally
There's also Grimith who has been making Daggerfall videos for about a decade. He even once teamed up with LethalFeline for one of the best playthroughs of Daggerfall on RU-vid with the LethalFlailfist character. AllinAll's animations have some deep daggerfall lore implications. QSHV has documented some pretty obscure bugs in DOS Daggerfall. Adventure Art has legendary character driven playthroughs such as Mad Genius. I'm missing a lot more but I'll add more as I think of them.
This was a really fun video. Id love to see more of these kind of semi-edited themed playthroughs, especially exploring the implications of specific builds or digging deep into the roleplay/life sim aspects.
I got back into daggerfall unity this month, so I did a general search to see if anyone’s made any recent Daggerfall + unity content. Loving this channel, including all your prior longform vids. I love older games so much more than newer releases (usually better + cheaper), so I’ll be here to vibe
11:55 "'Seduce the rat.' I don't think that 'Rat' is a language." *suddenly killed by bat* *in the background, RAT JUST DIED* It worked! The rat fought the bear for you to buy you time!
AdventureArt is LPing a very similar build: a language-focused "mad genius". It's actually surprisingly strong! Once his etiquette and streetwise skills got high enough he could just camp out and amass an army - pacifying every mob that spawned. Doesn't need combat skills - he just talks others into fighting for him! Very entertaining.
I always liked that in the later games I didn’t need to worry about diseases as an argonian. Getting sneak attacked by a goddamn skeever and catching Skeever Fever or whatever they call it was irritating as hell. My Nord character was in constant peril of some sort of weird disease all the time it was bizarrre. Every 10 minutes it was like “You’ve contracted Brown Balls, you’ve contracted Skooma Sack, You’ve contracted Black Marsh Swamp Ass, You’ve Contracted Hillary Clinton shocked face” it was a nightmare
It's kinda odd that monsters don't stay dead after leaving and re entering the dungeons, meaning you could literally grind as many gold as you want, or try to get the best weapons
Actually laughed out loud during character creation! I thought my Mad Genius would be the worst build on youtube but you win! I did realize however that it is worse to be able to use a LITTLE bit of magic than to remove it all together. Removing it completely gives you a lot of room for HP and advantages.
That little better call saul reference while you're out in the sun looking for shops was gold. I can imagine your argonian running around with just a tinfoil cloak going ''HSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS''
21:10 "I have to make enough $ for rent over many days making little to nothing and getting pickpocketted." Flash and rpgmaker devs in the 2000's: "that's gameplay"
Idea for Spell Progression: (Always hated how it's all open at once, no reward for finding new spells.) - Mage Guilds don't sell spells - Mage Guild spell maker only allows you to craft spell effects you have the spells to - Players don't begin with spells except one minor spell tied to a major skill. - Spells can drop with scrolls, but average of less than 1 scroll drop per dungeon. It will always be a spell you don't have and determined by your highest magic skills. - Many spells /spell effects gated by skill level in spell. Makes potions finally useful. And mirrors finding new weapons per dungeon.
I got a iron katana of leaping" that had a levitation spell i could use as much as i wanted meaning could basically fly at all times, honeslty the most fun magic item ive ever had in a game, and was super useful in dungeons, also let me get into towns in the middle of kight easily Flying>Climbing DF might be kinda jank, but it has its moments
Fun fact, when I played the demo as a kid, I'd almost always take damage from sunlight and holy places. I still went into churches... I just didn't stay there for long.
At least in the "classic" Daggerfall, you could wait inside a shop until it closes and then freely loot every single item in there, without that even counting as stealing. You could then sell all those items back to the shopkeeper to make a ton of money. Especially books were valuable commodity.
You also need a phobia to undead, without h2h skills and then try to box the skeleton in Privateer's Hold to Walls of Jericho, Figure Eight Leg Lock and the Crippler Crossface submission.
You could take a loan, go to a temple and rake in that sweet training, level up, maybe even train your fighting skills with a temple and proceed to do some dungeon crawling
Yep! I may revisit this challenge in the future sometime, using all the knowledge I re-learnt over the stream. (or I could just re-read my analysis script to remember haha)
@@Jwlar now imagine if you took damage in holy places. That would be a bigger deal! But at least there's no downside in becoming a vampire.... except losing db membership. You could also just rub shoulders with the dark brotherhood in that instant since they can bolster some skills with training before you can graduate to the mages guild for more training in languages, then pivot to a temple for some training to rise up in the mages guild or temple so you can buy magic items. The damage in holy places and sunlight don't seem horrible to where you can't do errands. There's quite a few ways but it seems that in the end just kind want magic gear, and since there's a cap in how many advantages you can take there's always an out for damage or progression in some way.... and your level is effectively capped since language skils are awful. The downside is that you'll be powergaming uber hard but the best part is that the rise to power will be very sweet!
@@Sonicracer100 Damn, that would really up the difficulty. I guess it says a lot about the game that when even making the worst build, you can still eventually build yourself up to a competent level! It will just a whole lot more time haha. Man, I love the character building in this game
20:07 You weren't technically caught stealing... You'd had to be attacked for it to work... But since you are mister speedy, you can dodge; Also, at 20:58 a guard attacked you; Before the roll... they will show you the "Surrender?" box... at that moment your reputation got decreased.
I like your Daggerfall content a lot but i also liked your other content (total war reviews especially). Please don't get stuck focusing on just one game (no matter how great it is).
I watched one of your videos and was inspired to try daggerfall. I didn't look up tutorials or read manuals though. I accidentally made a horrible class and got killed by a imp that I couldn't even kill, because I didn't know magic and used a long sword. The game does look quite nice though. I still think it's most likely the best one in the series.
With those skills you could have joined one of the temples, since most of them value at least some language skills and medical. For example, Temple of Dibella, The Goddes of Beauty which values Daedric and Nymph languages.
It's been a while since I've sunk a lot of time into Daggerfall, but aren't there at least a couple of dungeons that have significant underwater portions?
The Hist created argonian after seeing humans, so in the same way that Argonians are bipedal (even tho every other creature in the swamps isn't), it wouldn't surprise me if the Hist Trees gave them da honkers to 'blend in' (or at least integrate) with humans better/because humans have them so they will have them too
Well, I guess the "Linguist" build is out :) The adv/dis system added so much fun when first playing this game when it first released. Having a character level up 3x faster but only using steel until orcish (nothing in between) was quite a challenging playthrough although increased magery and spell absorption when used properly were worth it.
This video made me want to re try Daggerfall Unity. Last time i tried the game ran but a lot of quests didn't complete and i kept getting missing file errors 😢
I have to point out that you misunderstood my comment about Skyrim looking bad before the remaster - that was meant to be a joke about dated DF graphics, but I guess it wasn't good enough to get it (maybe because English isn't my native language).
Has more use than the languages though. But yeah, it doesnt really work. Your stealth will level regardless of whether you're actively in stealth mode, and at best it makes it so you have a tiny chance of running up on an enemy for a backstab.
I thought choosing your race didn't mater because your class overwrites the benefits of the race and you had to install the mod Races Redone... Have I missed something ?
The “special advantage” listed on the UESP (like immunity to paralysis for High Elves) is the only thing that applies. All the attributes are overwritten by your class.
Actually, it could have been quite useful and interesting character! seeing just the creation screen of your worst DF character, it reminded me about this DF character series ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gPL9xKpvet0.html by Adventure Art, that is also purely language skill based!
@@reesetorwad8346 Too bad the author dissapeared and never finished his character´s quest...with today´s new mods like Skill books and Language overhaul and Penwick papers it would be even more interesting
hmmm.... why did you not 'power' level up bow, jumping, swimming, running, dodging, climbing, stealth you had the gold in daggerfall you can be a low level misc skill master and if you have all fighting skills in misc you are a very good fighter at a low level and as a good fighter you can wander around get gold and learn your main skills without dying A bad Build needs only more time and attention to get good
Today i learned all my past daggerfall characters sucked and i could easily make an op one based off the info gained in this dumb ass horrible build lmao
You can yes! The main reason for leaving Daggerfall city was because travelling at night would result in Lysandus' ghosts being a pain. I could've gone to any other city though hahah. In the future I may complete this challenge with an actual plan of what to do lol, rather than winging it.
