To summarize the problems with Mimiron's Head: You need a +4 Attack buff for Voltron to actually OTK, plus you need to draw Mimiron himself, plus you need to ensure that not only Mimiron lives but allies live too so you will spend more than 4 cards to achieve this. And even then your opponent can just use any hard removal, silence etc. Or just a Taunt.

And not only that it actively disincentivizes having more than 3 mechs on the board by destroying all your mechs for no additional benefit. And it's not even an otk with +4 attack anymore cause there's a decent chance they started with 40 health, so you need +6 attack to win, and swapping it's attack and health won't cut it anymore either without chip damage to help it along

Well it never was intendeed to be a OTK, they made it because they thought the scenario would happen often, back then they didn't really understand that cards that required other cards were very slow/weak/easy to counter play...

A bonus point about this card is that faceless manipulator was so common in people's decks And even when you managed to summon him, you'd most likely leave your opponent alive because you've spent your previous turns trying to build the voltron hence not making any progress. And your opp just get to copy your voltron and kill you with it XD

Nimron's Head as a concept is a precursor to the keyword Magnetic It would be cool to Ninron's Hear return with 'all mechs have Magnetic'. That would be cool as a guy who's favorite deck was Mech Paladin when Dr. Booms Lab is standard.

There is a deck where mimrons head is playable. Just play quest mage with double target dummy end ur turn then play molten reflection or the guy that swaps attack and health for the easy otk it’s not as good as parrot but definitely more consistent then hoping they don’t have removal using mech mage lol

I feel like rogue would be a better class to attempt this strategy with. You have access to conceal so you can protect all your mechs, and you have cold blood to buff the Voltron and make him kill in one turn.

BTW Rarran. The head itself counts as a mech for the transform. So it's the head+2 others, not +3. It seemed like you were playing for +3 other mechs.

The best way of making head viable must be changing the "start of turn" for a battlecry effect, but also they would probably need to change charge for rush to balance it.

The way to make mimrons head work is probably quest mage, so you can summon voltron and then attack with it before your opponent does anything about it. Could also attempt it with the "quest mage"-priest that was going around a little while ago with temporus, but that would probably be significantly harder.

Actually there was a quest mage combo that could use Mimiron's Head... You use only 3 mechs on the deck: Mimiron's Head and 2 dummys. The idea is to cast them alongside the quest reward that allows you to take an extra turn... Then, in the extra turn you can create copies of Voltron to OTK your opponent. Of course it was more of a "forfun casual" deck, but it was viable and with a decent winrate

The flaw of trying to see if a card from GvG is bad while playing cards from only GvG is that your opponent's aren't using only cards from GvG. You'd have a better chance if they were, because at the time there wasn't as many cards. So you should've used newer cards to help it along. Cause seeing if it's bad during it's time is impossible unless you were facing a friend with a GvG deck or the Innkeeper

Yea man, like there was limited removal at the time, and the best 4 drops were yetis, so a 5 cost 4/5 with that added bonus was definitely no issue. I had it in my mech mage at the time for fun and pulled it off like 1/6 wins which were games I probably would have won anyways.

Magma rager is bad overall. No effect, nothing impactful to the board, easily removable. Back then Mimiron's head when impossible to have the effect go off is, at worst, a 5 mana 4/5 which was not the worst thing in the world back then.

The issues is no one put it in their deck with the intention of playing a 5 mana Yeti. They put it in with absolute garbage cards like Target Dummy to try to pull it off which drastically lowers the winrate. Vandarr is another card which isn't "unplayable" as a 4 mana 4/4, but the fact you are "forced" to run 0 early game and hope on drawing him on curve drastically lowers his deck winrate compared to playing him as a 4 mana 4/4 in a "normal" deck.

I'm pretty sure it isn't Mimiron's head because even if not played on OTK decks the winrate % is of the deck itself, not the one single card. Mech mage was always somewhat good, you could run the head in your list and win a lot without ever even playing it.

It's fair to assume that's the one statistic Ben Brode is using here based on the comments, but there are other perhaps better ways to measure a worst card, such as its win rate when seen/drawn or when played. I know they used to track that back in the day because Baron Geddon famously had the highest "when played" win rate. This is also why I would incline to favor the Malchezaar hypothesis, because it ruins your deck without your even having to draw or play the card itself.

I think the issue is that if you're playing Mimiron's Head, you're not playing to win. Anyone actively playing to win (at the time, there are actually a couple decks that can make it happen later on, even if they aren't top tier) wouldn't be playing Mimiron's Head in the first place. So the only decks playing him aren't really going to be that good just by virtue of that. And that's besides any subconscious things like playing less than optimally with an already less than optimal deck, just because you really, really, really want the dopamine hit of getting him to do the thing.

I had built a silly Mimron’s head deck a long time ago, actually got it last year as I was opening 10 of each pack to get a legendary from each. Ended up making a Rouge deck with it. Could probably use some improvements, but the main strategy is to discount the important cards with the octobots from Barrens (which are mechs themselves so that’s a plus) and then stealth all of the mechs. Then when you get voltron, you swing, play the guy who returns minions to your hand as a 1 cost, play again and play any attack buff cards. The problem I ran into when making the deck is it doesn’t really have board presence. I know it’s a silly deck and nowhere near meta, but I wonder how I could improve it so then it could handle decks that want to overrun you.

If you're trying to force the transform effect it's going to be terrible but I don't think a 5 mana yeti is bad enough to be the worst card in the game.

You would probably have a much easier time if you went quest mage. Granted Sorcs apprentice costs a bit more, but back in the day Mimirons head was used as a OTK. It was alot of fun to see, even if it was terrible lol

It wouldn't have to be a legendary card. There are cards like Pit Lord that, at least as of right now per hsreplay has a 3.6% play winrate.

The thing is according to the article the card is fun and thought fond of. Pit Lord is more of a WH OMEGALUL card that no one touched with a 10 foot pole. Mimiron's Head probably had the issue of people warping their entire deck around it making the deck significantly worse. The card itself as a 5 mana Yeti isn't THAT bad, but when you are playing things like Target Dummy your deck is absolute garbage. As an isolated card, Malchezar is probably the worse card since he actively just makes your deck worse by existing. "I could play a good card or I could play Malchezar who could be anything.....it could even be a good card!"

The article suggests people loved playing the card, but did not realize how bad it was; therefore people would stop playing it if they knew it was bad. I don't recall Mimiron's head being played much at all. I also think back in the day this would have had better opportunity to win using a rogue conceal/miracle deck.

I have to disaggree. Mimiron's head was a bad card, but because of that it was never played. (Even though mech mage was a thing even back then.) UNTIL the recent release of Mechashark and such, I remember MartianBoo popularizing Mimiron and it was actually useable (because of the magnetic cards). There was one other time when it saw play, back when the first mage quest was released Mimiron mage was an actual deck (Mimiron's head+2 Target dummies + Time warp and either playing Crazed alchemist or Echo of Mediev next turn for the OTK.) But turns out playing decks from 2014 is not really viable in 2022 who knew.

The worst card is the druid one that makes the first card cost 0. This card at worst is a 5 mana 4/5 mech, the druid one actually can just straight up lose you the game.

There are a bunch of contenders for worst Hearthstone card, but Magma Rager, Shifter Zerus, Mimiron's Head and Prince Malchezaar are all still things that add stats to the board when you play them. Malchezaar is probably the worst of that list because he thickens your deck with random cards, which is obviously awful, but Duskfallen Aviana exists.

Malchezaar could highroll and be awesome, but so very, very rarely. From my very limited play of Zerus (because sometimes you get given him randomly), he's actually OK, so long as you aren't using one of your card picks for him...

@@talltroll7092 If there were no archetypes Shifter Zerus wouldn't be awful. You might want Shifter Zerus or Malchezaar in Arena if your deck didn't pick up much synergy. I'm not even sure if those show up in Arena to be honest.

I got 10 wins in arena with Mimirons head and that was a huge thing for me back in GvG when I played, I have no idea how it works nowadays but it's power level in arena was perfect if you've already drafted a good deck for it. Edit: Also mechwarper which when I downloaded hearthstone today just to take a look after finding your channel I noticed was banned. Edit: It worked in arena in only gvg because you were trying to fill your board with mechs anyways so it was fine and if it resolved it was great. Also you kept trying to build it with 3 at least I think but you only need 2 plus the head, which is way more feasible in arena. It does destroy all mechs which is says on the card you need at least 3 and destroy them all but they animated all options, try seeing every one.

I won a ranked game with mimiron's head in Boomsday standard. I was playing mech control warrior, I got weaponized pinata from dr. boom's hero power and traded it in, got Toki, Time-tinker from it which in turn gave me mimiron's head. I had a lot of minibots on my field and I played the head, which transformed, played Faceless manipulator and won. I'm sad I didn't clip it because it would have been an easy clip to send to Trolden for their "funny moments" series

Rogue should be easier to complete Mimiron and utilize it, with Conceal to hide Mimiron and mechs; Cold Blood and bounce-back's for OTKs.

I don't play Hearthstone anymore, but I've watched a few of these now, and I'm always flabbergasted that Rarran has creatures on the field when it becomes his turn. That's never my experience with these types of games. So, when you show me a card that needs it and two others to stay alive through the opponent's turn, I smugly chuckle in a corner. Good job pulling it off; don't know how you did it.

I think the only way i know to summon Vol'tron with Success is with the Mage Un'Goro Quest getting you a second turn and the 0/2 Taunt Mech for 0 Mana. But of course, it isn't pure Goblins vs Gnomes.

@@Straviradius both this and "someday-someday-someday-someday-aha!" are like 5+ card combos that require Time Warp except one does significantly more damage, plays better cards than target dummy, and can go through taunts. Even if GvG was in standard during Un'Goro (I don't believe it was) it would've been significantly worse than just pointing fireballs at the dome.

I absolutely love Mimirons Head, I still run it in a version of mech mage I use, but I wont lie, the main reason why I love it and still use it, is the animation when it does its effect, its the coolest most unique animation in hearthstone imo, totally worth it.
