The fact the armor actually showed up on the character in Evergrace blew my mind. Coming from ps1 era where character models stayed the same whole game, this was one of my first ps2 experiences and I adore this game to this day.

Enchanted Arms is not awful i loved that game and think it was an awesome rpg. And most people seems to have forgotten that human like animal characters was normal and done all the time in the 80s and 90s and it was not seen as weird at all back then. And they also made them hot all the time because that was not weird back then either.

With every yin comes a yang, since with the Switch you have BotW, an amazing launch title that showed that the Switch was capable of putting out great games right out the bat and is imo the best game for it... (I know it released on WiiU as well and was originally developed for it, but since it came out for Switch on the same day and was, again, a launch title, I consider it a Switch game as much as a WiiU game.) Or 1-2 Switch, which’s basically a gimmicky shovelware title sold for full price that should’ve been bundled with the console instead, like with Wii Sports and Nintendo Land.

True Sad Story: When I was 13 I got an original Xbox for my birthday, 2 weeks after it came out. Toys R Us, at the time, only sold the system in a bundle. $500, extra controller, choice of 3 games. I couldn't convince my parents to let me get Halo among them, so I wound-up getting Tony Hawk 2X (wooo), Amped Snowboarding (booo), and fuckin" Shrek (massive booooo). lol

LOL! That Shrek game totally exists in a part of my memory that I still can't seem to access. I know I've played it, but it totally feels like something out of an alternate timeline-but no, it is totally real.

Never played EverGrace, but it looks and sounds like one of those niche titles with like, 5 people that are diehard fans of it. Kinda like me and Evil Zone.

I had Crossfire (or technically Target in Sight in Europe), and man, as a 10 year old rookie gamer, I had no idea how to play it. I also had Sonic 06 and Genji. Yeah my start as a gamer wasn't great.

You know the original Doom was NOT played with a mouse, right? I remember playing it at my cousin's house. Their computer didn't even have a mouse at the time.

In my opinion as a former journalist who was working at Game Informer when Xbox released, you should have gone with Kabuki Warriors. Our editor-in-chief beat the game with his ass. He slapped the hamburger controller on his butt until he killed the last boss.

The Sega Cd v2 (top loader) is much more reliable than the tray version, and much easier to fix and replace parts with if you want a good Sega CD

Hits right in the nostalgia. I remember Evergrace being a PITA to get through, but somehow I did it. I've also been a huge Armored Core fan through till the last game, the series definitely needs to make a comeback. Evergrace reminds me of another ps2 launch title, Dynasty Warriors 2, in terms of how simple it was compared to DW3. I've got a Jaguar, and holy hell does it suck. Haven't pulled it out in years but I remember I have Iron Soldier and Kasumi Ninja, and at least one other game for it. They all suck.

There must be yiff of Trevor McFur made immediately. It is only the natural way of things.

I think that the Wii U actually had a pretty good launch set of titles, the brand new call of duty, Assassin’s creed had only came out a month earlier, ZombiU was unique and really both good and forward thinking, there definitely would be game problems with the Wii U but launch wasn’t one of them in my opinion

Also, you are way too harsh with this port, isn't a perfect port and it has many flaws, but it's overall a solid port, it plays pretty smooth, unlike the SNES, 3DO and Saturn ports, that play and run like crap. Is just ridiculous saying that the 32X port it's the worst port simply because for stupid reasons like the inferior graphics or the content missing.

Wii u's launch games were fine. The Wii U had the most launch games of any Nintendo console and was pretty good. One of the interesting things about the Wii U's launch was that it had games you would've never expected to see on a Nintendo console. Many were games that had yet to ever appear on a Nintendo console--It's thanks to Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper that Hyrule Warriors ever existed.. Not only on launch day but during its launch window--amassing close to 30 titles. And the majority of these titles might not ever appear on a Nintendo console again thanks to poor decisions from pushy publishers.

I rented Shrek and then decided to buy Shrek 2. Somehow it worked out.

You think the 32x port of Doom is bad? Have you played the 3DO port? The SNES port? Aside from the fart music, the 32x had a very decent version of Doom, to the point where most other console ports were based on it.

Crossfire could have been good, but that framerate is a nightmare.

As someone who actually played and still for some reason owns Eternal ring I can promise you it's worse than Evergrace, the movement in that game is so afwul and SLOW in addition to the fact that despite the PS2 having dual analog as a default, you couldn't use it to look around in a FIRST PERSON game and no you can't get used to it or remap it if you have an emulator because it would snap you back to the centre and EVEN BETTER there's a section of the game where you are forced to fight lizards (who are below you) and bugs (who are above you) with a control scheme that sucks doing either, it was an awful awful game and I still can't believe the same devs who made the Souls games (played Bloodborne, Demon Souls which I loved and am currently playing Dark Souls which i'm also loving) made one of the worst games i'd ever played, from humble beginnings...

Duke is an underrated controller, I never had issues with it... at least not after my hands grew into it lol most and I mean most controllers cramp my hands after awhile. Duke, Dualshock 4, and the 360 controller are the top 3 for me lol

I loved 32X DOOM at the time. I'd never played anything like it. It looks terrible compared to the PC version but well if you had a PC why would you buy a console version of this game anyway? While Doom would come out later on the Super Nintendo, this was something no other system had for the moment. The 32X had some terrible games but Doom only really looks bad in comparison to the PC version.

Man. I feel like I’m the only person who likes Gundam Crossfire and still play it occasionally to this day. It doesn’t LOOK bad. Though it does run very poorly I’ll give ya that. I blame that on the PS3 and how horrible it was to develop for. The control jank however was by design (not to say I defend it but it was on purpose). As your pilot levels up you can actually do actions a lot easier and more smoothly with boosting, dodging and melee combat in particular becoming easier and more fluid the higher you got along with just being better at following the rhythm of combat and movement. It actually sold and reviewed super well in Japan though.

There are magazines with the policy of "have to beat the game to review" as a core of their model, and then a whole issue will be full of reviews describing the ending of games wrong. They are a historical footnote seemingly created at the time for the sake of future comedic consumption.

32x version of Doom was probably second best at the time. Jaguar being #1. 3DO is unplayable, snes is so pixelated and saturn is pretty bad too. Not that the 32x version is great but at least it has a decent framerate lol

Doom 32X is probably one of the better ports actually. Play SNES, 3DO or Saturn Doom if you want to suffer.

To me Miyazaki is FROM Software. They had some cool titles before Demon Souls, but there is definitely a huge divide between pre-Miyazaki and post-Miyazaki. Also, what is it with Miyazakis? FROM Software and Studio Ghibli are almost only famous because of their Miyazaki outputs.

I really enjoyed Zombi U myself. I played it when it got ported to PS3 (as Zombi). I liked the setting the in particular, zombie infested London is a cool idea.

I'm sure this has been sent your way already, but black hole assault is a sequel to an even worse mecha fighting game called heavy nova. check it out if you want a game with actually unresponsive controls and stiff as hell movement. it was on both genesis and sega cd.

Oh god, I played that Gundam game - one part you could have mentioned is that not only could you just walk onto an enemy base and win, _so can they._ One early Zeon mission took me 10+ attempts because the Gundam would just walk past me as I shot at it, and by the time I turned my slow-ass Zaku around it had won without firing a shot.

Trevor McFur wasn't originally intended to rip off Star Fox...it was just going to be a scifi game with anthro animals as the main characters, which is like saying any platformer where the main character wears a red shirt and blue pants is a rip off of Mario. However, the development of the game was plagued with executive interference, removing critical story elements and causing major pot holes because back then as much as now, studios thought kids couldn't handle the concept of death (despite many of the _most memorable and beloved_ stories for children having major characters dying in them and constant threats of death to the main characters as part of the stakes) among other themes, as well as not understanding the target audience was meant to be teens/young adults initially but "hurr durr, talking animals means it's for babies". I don't know why I know so much about the development of this one mediocre game I've never played on a console I've never touched.

I'm pretty sure the lack of Gundam games in the West was more due to the franchise falling from grace in general here (mostly due to mismanagement on Bandai's part).
