I feel like most Booktubers "worst books" videos are so boring because they hold back and are scared to offend people, but I love how you just go for it 🤣
Saw this with the drama on twitter and had to come over and find out what the worst books were lol. Loved it, you’re so entertaining and will be subscribing now since our opinions line up! Happy holidays :)
I don't understand why there were negative comments on twitter for this? You're being pretty civil given the amount of alcohol and its funny, keep it up!
I'm not sure if this is the video that's getting everyone mad on Book Twitter but I'm giving you the thumbs up purely for listing Leah. I'll respect our disagreements on Simon but I agree that Leah was absolutely dreadful as a person and a book, I hope they never make a movie out of that one
I’m here from the CommuniTea video. I really enjoy how you explain why you don’t like these books. Whether I agree or disagree with what you say about the books you don’t like doesn’t matter. I appreciate the reasoning. I think a lot of people giving you shit have just jumped on this without actually watching it.
Seeing all the Twitter drama I kind of expected to see you doing the evil laugh and burning all the books you didn't like... Sadly this didn't meet my expectations 😂 I really enjoyed this video!
Your rants are my favourites. I DNF'd the starless Sea 🙈 I didn't hate Simon but similarly, I'm reading it with a different POV than you 🤷🏼♀️ so totally understand where you're coming from with that. Loved this and I love you 💙
Loved this, love yooouuuu! ❤️ You’re wrong about starless sea though so I had to unsubscribe 😂 kiddinngggg! I agree entirely with your opinion as ya know but still, I can’t help but love that plotless book. Why? I still don’t know exactly 😂❤️❤️
I'm convinced some people on Twitter didn't watch this but went off on what they imagine you said. This was very gentle and not at all mean spirited. My worst of 2020 is a historical romance that has stunning for written now stereotypes about South Asians and includes a spurned gay lover out for revenge against the bi sexual hero. Without a bottle I go off. Give me a bottle and film me and watch out. Thanks for these reviews and I think I'll pass on the 15 book series challenge. 😄
You hit the nail on the head with Ready Player Two, every single point. The telling. The boring tasks. And Wade. Such a shit at the start! It had exciting points and it did win me over right at the end but I was quite disappointed. It felt like a rollercoaster read for how often I changed my mind about it.
I so agree with you on Cheetah Girls,I read the first three books when I was a teen and I couldn't stand them and I loved the movies! Well all but the last one.
Straight in for the jugular with Simon vs. I definitely see your point though, not one time is it clear it's Simon sending the emails. What a surprise to see Inifinty Son on this list, you never said at all that you didn't like it. . . I was also a little disappointed by DJat6. I think it's the format I read it in, maybe if I listen to the audiobook I'll be more on board.
The worst book I’ve read in 2020 this year has to be “me before you” by JoJo Moyes! I found this books subject matter to be harmful and would not recommend it to anyone! I gave it two stars! I also read sisterhood everlasting this year and that was so disappointing as well I gave that 3 stars!
Great video! I haven’t read a lot of these books, so can’t really comment, totally agree with you about Daisy Jones though. I thought the interview format was an interesting idea but it just got really angst ridden and I couldn’t be bothered. I probably should have dnfed but everyone loved it so much, I kept waiting for it to get better!
Absolutely loved this video! Although I haven't read these books I connected with your reactions to them bc I've read books this year that made me feel exactly like that i.e. confused, maybe the reason I hated that one YA book was bc I no longer remember what it's like to be a teen (or I wasn't THAT teen), disappointed, angry, not wanting to ever read a book from the same author again, not knowing what I actually feel or what to say about the book after finishing it (like you with Wizard of Earthsea) or just hating not connecting with the characters and focusing on how likeable or annoying they are. Which validated me so much bc I really focus on that whenever I leave reviews and sometimes I questioned myself if that was even a valid or correct thing to bring up or actually pointless, but I see it's not. And I related so much when you said you're not a “smart reader”!! bc some books really make me feel like that so I do always say my low rating is a me-problem bc I'm kinda smooth brained sometimes with these plots not gonna lie. The controversy brought me here but your video was really nice and respectful and I still wanna check out a few of these to see if I agree or end up liking them. Reviews like these don't deter readers from these books, whiny or entitled authors who think are above criticism do.
Your opinions are always valid and thank you for leaving your comment, it’s nice to see that there are more people like me out there feeling the same way about these kinds of things. Thanks for checking my video out!
The starless sea was that popular, talented person we all knew in high school that talked a huge game and then ended up doing nothing with their life. It was totally lazy! It spent 75% of the book making promises and then ends without resolving any of them, leaves it to the reader to come up with a good ending instead of committing to one.
"We have a 'What if It's Us' two coming in 2021, fucking hell, what has the world come to" the delivery on that was so funny I actually laughed out loud lmao "what has the world come to" 😂 I am *trash* for THG, it's my favourite series ever, but I didn't read Ballad because I have seen spoilers and I hate it all. I trusted Suzanne Collins to give us something full of meaning and poignant like the og trilogy but she went and gave Snow a fucking ROMANCE? Nah, my headcannons are better.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is one of the reasons I was glad I got furloughed earlier this year. Lol The higher ups kept pushing for us booksellers to get pre-orders for it and talk about it, etc, etc. it was so annoying The Starless Sea bit breaks my heart lol
Gavin, you are a joy to watch! Ballad of songbirds was one of my most anticipated books of this year, I even paid £9 to pre order the damn kindle copy (ew) and I've stopped reading after the first chapter, mainly due to the fact I hadn't seen one positive review. I do want to complete it just to see how I feel, as hunger games is one of my all time faves.
I’m like you on daisy Jones because I couldn’t really connect to any of it or the characters and I even tried the audiobook but I had to dnf it. Just wasn’t for me!
Is this the last will see of Infinity Son? IS IT??? 😂 I have to say I love this mix of rant and alcohol, you're so funny!!! Loved this! 💜 I can't believe the mamma mia vlog flopped, I watched it 3 times already. I think I'll watch one more now 😂 And I'm REALLY excited for the romance vlog now!!!
LOL your intro to discussing Infinity Son, I live 😂😂 omg your Cheetah Girls video was one of my favorites of this year, you really did that and suffered through it for us. Thank you!!
I know that it is absurd to post a comment on a video from several years ago, but 'Tehanu' and 'The Other Wind' were the two books from the Earthsea series that I loved the most and I think that they are well worth reading even if you didn't love the first three books.
I am here for this! I just dnf’d Ready Player Two four hours into the audio book. Wade is horrible, arrogant and creepy. It took so long for the plot to kick in and just so much exposition up until this point that even the reveal of the plot and villain didn’t suck me in. I dnf’d because I wasted my life listening to Armada - awful - and this seemed to be going the same way. Loving your honest opinions 🎉
noooo i loved the starless sea so much. yes the plot was very... cryptic, subtle, but i personally love that. everything was so interconnected and you had to work to figure it out. maybe i’m just weird, but i literally cried at the end because it didn’t want it to be over. 😅it was the kind of book i want to live in.
Amazing video as always. Love when you get a little ranty. Keep doing what you’re doing, you are fantastic and fun to watch with honest reviews that allow a watcher to decide whether or not they want to read a trash book and what they’re getting if they do pick it up.
Glad to hear of another person that didn’t like Daisy Jones! I didn’t care about the characters and thought the story was so bland. Felt like a documentary about a band I didn’t care about
Thank God it's not just me! I read Evelyn Hugo and LOVED it! Then tried Daisy. I couldn't of put it any better myself, just about some band I don't even know or care about.
Did I come here because I was recced the Unhauling Badly Behaved Authors video, got curious about the drama and heard "I'm drinking and ranting" and immediately went "yes, this is my type of lad"? Maybe. You can't prove that. Also always here to support fellow NE people. (Why do we all rant like this exact same way? I swear I sound the exact same when I go off...)
@@GavinReadsItAll I knew I did. I’m sorry you got so much hate for this video love. I watched it before I saw the Twitter fuck show and of course I had to leave an NSFW comment. That’s what I do. Much love Gav! 😘😘
In October, I challenged myself to finish several duologies. I got the first books in book boxes and all of them were solid 3-3.5 star reads. But boy oh boy, the conclusions made the Infinity Son look like a pleasant read...
Finally getting a chance to sit and watch this and from the very beginning I question if those people even watched the video. In no way do you deserve all that heat for making this. I'm so sorry for that crap you got just for giving your opinion. I love your videos especially the rants. Also I can't believe the steamy between the sheets video flopped it's one of my favorites and I hope we get more rants with ice cream and facials and crazy green screen videos. Your amazing please don't even stop giving us amazing content. Also yes I was waiting for the rant on Infinity Son 🤣
I missed the twitter drama but came straight over from Jadeyraereads after hearing about what happened! So glad to see this video! I love worst and disappointed reads videos! 😀 You made me laugh so hard, thanks!🤣
Came here from the twitter drama. Loved this video. You now have s new subscriber, and I can't wait to go back and watch your initial reviews of all of these books.
Yay 4 Gavin!! I adored this video!! Thank you for expressing YOUR opinions, regarding books you read on YOUR channel. I appreciate your honesty. The fact ppl being critical of your opinions is mind blowing. This is a toxic community and many times I thought about leaving. Thank goodness for you (and a few other youtubers) are why I continued to stay around. Regarding your opinions, of the ones I read, I share uour pov. Keep doing you and being honest; I'll keep coming back. Take care and be safe.
Found you thanks to Said by Jess and her Communitea video. I saw all the fallout on Twitter but had no idea what anyone was referring to. I am a big believer in reviews are for readers and I don't hold back my opinions either. I am glad I wasn't the only one who didn't like Ballads, it was so disappointing. It also felt like it was written by someone else. It felt like fan fiction rather than something written by the original creator of the world and characters. And I hated the pointless need to make so many connections back to Katniss and basically reduced his hatred of Katniss down to the fact she reminds him of a girl he used to love.
Brill as always. Thanks Gavin. Sorry you didn't like Daisy Jones, but I understand why. It wasn't a book for everyone. The boss introduced it to me as Fleetwood Mac interviews, which really helped me connect with it. And I watch a lot of band documentaries on BBC4, so that style is familiar. Love you honesty, we need more of that on Booktube. Be safe!
Oh my goodness, I mainly read Fantasy. Worst Book vlogs are my favorite part of Christmas. I think it's great fun to talk about books you hate, especially when other people love them. I really like Tales of Earthsea, and I'm surprised this made it onto anyone's list. I mainly read fantasy books, though, so I'm definitely different from you in this regard. But it sounds like your problem with the books is just that you didn't get attached to the world, so you have no opinion one way or another... And I can't really get mad at you over that. I loved the setting; I love how this wasn't a European continent so common in fantasy. I loved how Ursala invoked beautiful scenery in my mind's eye with much fewer words, compared to the pages of description of scenery in someone like Tolkien's works. I loved the Taoist theme of balance in the magic system. But, I can probably respect someone if they don't get attached to the world, especially if they don't typically read fantasy. "Tehanu" is probably my favorite entry in the series. Probably because the POV character is Tenar, after the events of "The Tombs of Atuan." In "Tehanu," Tenar has already grown old enough to have married a farmer, had her husband die, and her kids move out. And this story is more... empowering... to the females in Earthsea, I think. And I really like how the story follows a woman who has had some experience with age. Younger characters in fiction tend to be more popular, possibly because younger characters tend to have easier-to-write character arcs. But I love it when an older character gets a character arc, and in "Tehanu," you have both an older Tenar and an older Ged who experience character arcs, and I love it. I hope you read "Tehanu" eventually, but it's okay to have neutral opinion on it. May your book reading of 2021 give you more books to passionately hate and love. :D
I love that finally, someone else also didn't like What If It's Us! Did you do a video on that, because if you did, I can't find it and I would love to hear you ranting about it.
omg I'm gay and I felt like I couldn't give Simon vs the Homosapien's Agenda a les than stellar review because it is considered classic lgbtqia literature but I really found it boring and not great at all. I am so glad to hear you say this. It's great for other people but I did not like it. I have read so much better gay characters and books
The Starless Sea. God bless you, Gavin. You have rescued my soul and delivered me straight to hell. I couldn't understand a single thing that happened in that book. I feel like if I was a different person it would have been good but it made me feel so STUPID
I loved this vlog! i have a few of these yet to read ballad of songbirds. I did read what if its us and while I thought it was ok until the end, I don't need another. The rest of these were on my I don't care list. I hate books that tell you what to think too.
Have just read about the „controversy“ surrounding this video via the butthurt writers who complained and had to come see it for myself 😁 love it. Don’t listen to those writers, there are best and worst lists about movies and music, as well as about books, and there is no problem.
I absolutely love that whoever was being an ass on Twitter brought all of these lovely people to your channel! Guess their bitching bit them in the ass huh? Serves them right for treating one of the best creators like garbage. I love your channel gav, keep doing you!
Snakes and Songbirds was such a disappointment. I wanted a villain evolution, not someone we know is a villain sort of getting the romantic hero treatment. You're spot on on the "safeness" of the book where Snow was just sort of a tepid shadow of what he would be. I've read plenty of books where the protagonist is a horrible, horrible person but still fascinating. Snow just wasn't...bad...enough.
Also don’t see what all this Twitter fuss was about- there were 2 books in this video that I’m excited to read so I just skipped the parts where he talked about them so I can form my own opinions and the other books I had no intention of picking up so 🤷🏻♀️ X
Checked out this video curious about what all the drama was about. I don’t agree with all of your opinions, but I respect your right to share them without tiptoeing about. People need to calm the fuck down.
your intro song cracks me up everytime!! 😭 i love your videos so much!! even the rants make me laugh, like i can't even. also i loved the hunger games, but i have 0 interest in reading the ballad of songbirds and snakes. but OMG the reviews for the starless sea are so mixed!! i'm nervous but excited to see where my opinion falls. 👀 also the cheetah girls movies tho? TOP TIER. 👌🏻
I don't have time to watch this right now (will do tomorrow for sure!!) but I wanted to take a minute to tell you that you have every right to give your honest opinion about the books you read and those people who are telling you that you are "mean" or "unkind" can f*ck off!! We are here for your opinion, whatever that is 💚💚💚
Hey Gavin! Can I just say this made me lol and I am very appreciative of that. I love it! When you were talking about Between the Sheets and reading more romances next year, I wanted to recommend one book to you its free if you have a kindle, its called Save the Date by Annabeth Albert. I hope, if you decide to look into this one, you'll have a better time than with Between the Sheets.
