When you said "I can't force myself to like it. just because it was written 100 years ago". I felt that to my core!

People need to calm down on hating others for making "negative lists". Honestly, making and watching these list help me a lot in figuring out what kind of things I like and dislike in books, which is important and helps improve my experience for the next year. Oh and I'm also just here for the tea and gradually building frustrations in this video. Are you okay Gav?! 🙃

No offense but why do you need to hear what others like or dislike in order to know what you like and dislike in a book? Firm your own opinions girl. Be an individual. If you can't even think for yourself what other dysfunctions must you experience.
@renee_3364
@renee_3364 2 года назад
@@phillipstroll7385 Thanks for your concern about my daily "dysfunctions", but don't worry: I'm perfectly capable of forming my own opinions. I don't use these lists to let others tell me what to like or dislike, but I do enjoy hearing other people's thoughts about the things I liked or dislike. Disagreeing and hearing the *why* behind other people's opinions is part of the joy in consuming any type of media for me. The goal isn't to "form my own opinion", it's more so to do with understanding why I feel that way, and why others might feel differently.
@phillipstroll7385
@phillipstroll7385 2 года назад
@@renee_3364 but you said watching helps you decide what you like and don't like. Hence why I mentioned it. Now you're saying you don't. So in that case, goodbye. If one can't defend their own thoughts I really don't care what they have to say. Thank you and Good luck to you.

Demonata - this was my favourite book series as a kid and until recently I'd often say Lord Loss was my favourite book, though I will concede that as I've got older I remember them less fondly. I think there's middle grades that are accessible to both kids and adults (Percy Jackson, for example) and other ones that are only really entertaining when you're younger, I think most of Shan's books are the latter - though he's a top bloke, I've met him 3 times 😁 Fear Street - I like these because they're simple and quick, sometimes in between a long arduous fantasy you just want something you can tune out to read in between your next big book - that's what the Fear Streets are to me, though I definitely recognise most of them aren't that good, I just usually keep my expectations low whenever I pick one up. Most of them are 3 stars at best but my favourites, out of the ones I've read, are College Weekend and Halloween Party - because they both had really unsettling atmospheres and had twists I was genuinely surprised at so I'd definitely recommend those two at least! Just goes to show that most of them are forgettable because the films were based on the location as opposed to the stories 😂 Girl on the Train - I mean, I thought the film was alright 🤷🏼

I will definitely have to check out those Fear Street books as I would absolutely love to read some of the best ones the series has to offer, but also lowkey tempted to read every single Fear Street book out there for completionism sake haha

A five star queer romance I read was called The Silver Cage by Anonymous. I loved it- it’s dark and hard hitting but so so good and I really hope you see this comment and give it a read!

You should read Priest by Sierra Simone! Or you could read Saint (follows the brother from priest) it’s m/m and so gut wrenching and sexy and one of my fav romances of the year!

Probably not a popular opinion, but I DNF'ed Strange the Dreamer - just couldn't get into the book at all. Another one on my worst list would be The War of the Worlds (thought it was boring).

I read that a few years ago and didn’t get into it either. I had to finish it, because it was for a class on YA books, otherwise I would have put it down. But I’m glad to know I’m not the only one, especially since I’ve heard a lot of praise for Laini Taylor.

Gavin, since you’re looking for a hot LGBTQ+ romance I would suggest giving “Five Dares” by Eli Easton a chance. The premise sounded ridiculous to me at first and don’t even get me started on the cover. But I thought, why not? I ended up loving it. I would suggest getting the physical/e-book version rather than the audiobook because that one has an unnecessary comment that was deleted from the written version (thankfully). I had so much fun reading it. I look forward to finding out what you think 😉 Happy Holidays! 🎄🎅🏼

Yes. Been waiting for this one. Sad you didn't like I am Thinking of Ending Things. I think people don't like it because they don't get the meaning of it. The way the book is written and the ending, it describes loneliness really well. That's why I loved it. =)

i told you the book i know what you did last summer sucked lol... but it might be because it was so different than the movie and i was comparing... and i am a huge Sarah Michelle Gellar-Prinze fan!!!! i have all of the movies and tv shows that she has ever been in!!! (yes, that includes all my children!) but some of the interactions, the characters they weren't very good people! some of things they said... it was like omg what?!

Haven't started the video yet and I'm nervous and let me tell you why. For the first time this year, I went to a local book store and made a book haul. I've arrived home about 30mins ago, watched an unhaul video and found one of my new books in there. Then I watched a dnfs video and saw another book I bought in there. I'm cursed at this point and I just hope you don't mention any of my other new books

I’m so happy I’m not the only one who was extremely dissapointed with “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”. What was the point of all of it? To me, nothing was explained except for the ending. All that build up to the ending was literally revealed to be pointless and turned out to literally mean nothing.

Not my main man Peter Pan getting dissed lol. I get it's not for everyone though I love characters that are just out there for themselves so I adore him. You might enjoy some Peter Pan retelling that focus on the magic and Peter is more of a likeable character. Like Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas presents Peter in a completely different light.

Awesome video! I do apologize on behalf of a character who shares a name with me (honestly, I also feel a bit betrayed, wasn't planning on reading Den of Vipers anyway, but now I definitely won't). As for a good LGBTQ+ romance, idk if you read it, but Red White & Royal Blue is excellent. I read it in September and still can't stop thinking about it!

I recently listened to the Audible production of Peter Pan and it was really well done. Like the actual production. I also feel like they removed some of the really horrible parts. Also totally unpopular opinion. I really enjoyed DoV. I think that book was the one that made me realize my love of dark romance and psycho men. Not saying it was good, but ya
