As one-dimensional as you may guess. I no longer see the difference between both sides of this "culture war", or what this crap is. We effectively are facing censorship from two different extremes. We have the religious conservatives on one extreme, and the hypocritical anarchist ideologues on the other extreme. We also have another extreme in the center and that is the fence sitting stagnant non-involvement of the center where they would opt to just censor both sides, or another odd centrist extreme where everything would be allowed because all freedoms should be permitted, which is just another form of anarchy. And for a long time, we had no problem with "woke" content. The difference is that it was done with a lot of intelligence and respect to the audience, no matter their creed, ideology, religion, skin color or etc. Star Trek TNG and DS9 are some of the best examples. Hell, even the original series, it was unthinkable back then to have a black woman be part of the head of the crew, but there was one in charge of communications operations on the helm of the starship Enterprise. But it was done with overall positivity to everyone, without malice, and with a bright outlook to the future. Not as some condemnation of the people or a mindless tokenism with no clear vision of the character's identity in the story and their role.

As someone that took part in Gamergate 1 back in 2014, this new iteration of the culture war is cringe as fuck. You have people nitpicking at every game and movie to the point where it's impossible for them to enjoy anymore. How do you even live like that? You have people screaming "DEI" as soon as they see a woman, a POC, or trans in any media, as if it's not abhorrently racist/sexist to do so. You have grifters like Grummz, Synthetic man, etc that chalk up failiures of games to being too woke, rather than the actual reasons for why they failed, taking up all the oxygen for a deep introspection, or outright labeling games they don't even play, or have any investment in as "woke". The minute you bring up how screaming "DEI" is problematic, they say "Oh no, it's because it's included to virtue signal", ignoring the fact you have women in the workplace labelled as "DEI" all the time, like Kamala Harris, or that female Secret Service agent during the Trump's attempted Assasination. They changed Library of Ruina from "Not Woke" to "Woke". They changed Limbus Company from "Woke" to "Not Woke". Both games take place in the same setting.
I could go through that list and come up with excuses as to why every game is woke in some way. They say TF2 is not woke but they forget that the administator in TF2 and their assistant, basically everyone in charge of the events if the game are women in positions of power. So obviously TF2 has DEI messaging, also the classes are all objectively diverse.

I hope that ppl that are invested in this list are doing it in the interest of not playing them. Mainly because I would not want to interact with them in the game if its multiplayer. Infact I'd be joining the group to find any little/insignificant thing, in the games that are recommended so that the game gets moved to the not recommended so I will not find them in those games too.
These people need to separate writing issues from mechanics. It's fine to point something minor like character creation crap, but most of what the issues were was stuff that was OPTIONAL. If you make a list like this, it needs to be about things that any player will come across AND actively engage with.

I would rather say that the extremes on both sides are stupid and annoying. The general liberal and conservative that can sit down and exchange their viewpoints without getting mad, is in my opinion just fine.
@@TheNexDude Not really seeing much difference in annoyances myself. One side can complain if you are not forced to play as a minority, the other can complain if there is even an option to do so. One side is against fanservice in normal games and media, but if you go deeper into the other side, then you learn they want to ban all fully erotic content totally.
I miss the days when we could just have well-written characters that we could just like for WHO they were. Not liking or hating things solely because of WHAT they were. 95% of gamers would be happy with any race/gender/sexuality on a character if the character's well-written, has a personality, and the game's actually good. At this point, the fact that we once had the Bayonetta series, one of the best examples of a well-written, strong woman as a main character (other than, MAYBE, Samus Aran), feels like a fever dream.
You can say that about anything with gay, black, strong female characters. In the show "the boys" there's a character called Frenchie who had always had strong undertones of being bisexual and it was even shown in a flashback at one point, but the moment they acknowledge it again in the latest season everyone's ape brain activated and started calling it "woke" even though he'd always been like it

Well that depends. It's easy for white people to just say "Back in the days when we just like characters for WHO they are and not their race" when every fictional character in media ever was white. Have you seen the impact of that over here in the east, in South East Asia? Most of us don't even know our culture here where I'm from, because all the kids who grew up reading popular books, or watching popular movies all had white people and white culture to see.

The difference is, they'll go 'til their dying day thinking not only that they do, but that they know it better than people who LIVED it. AC:Shadows has been a tremendous testament to that.
@@RookMeAmadeus That's not what I meant. I meant from actual cultures and people which there are incredibly little representation of. Japan and South Korea aren't really a part of that anymore. In terms of SEAsians. And what's the problem with AC Shadows? Ubisoft has a very good track record of showcasing historical accuracy in terms of its setting's location and people. The main character could be an alien in there, as long as the geography is accurate, and the people's behavior and zeitgest were captured, that's good.
This list has to be a gayop or something, majority of titles in there are bunk and the preamble in the steam group doesn't even remotely read like someone that would make such a list would write or speak lmao.
I think it's legit by some tradcatholic guy, there really are people who think like this. I have encountered similar lists about "occult" movies, so I'm surprised presence of magic wasn't a criteria.
While I understand the need for representation in game, what I don't like about games "pushing wokeness" is that they put more effort into that rather than building the world or actually making meaningful characters. A gay character and that's it? Cookie cutter, everyone's got a gay character somewhere. But a gay character with a good personality and an interesting backstory? Hell, that's what I'm talking about. You'd get the most stereotypical characters ever and most of the time, that's it. You could make something more interesting with diversity, but if all you have to offer is just putting raw diversity on a plate and not even bother cooking up a five star meal with what you have, at least make an effort to cook a home meal with it.

Representation was fine during the early 2000s so them calling gamers racist is stupid you can even use mass effect as an example that represented lots of people without pushing ideologies

The unfortunate reality when you look at what's happened with Disney is that the current CEO had aspirations to run for presidency and backed the Democratic party, ever since he's been veering the party further left and seemingly utilizing social media as the guiding star as well as the financial backing that are held by societal alteration quotas that has driven the company further and further left. Left is not bad by the way, but extreme left is, and social media tends to categorize left and centrist/neutral as far right because it's reactionary responses from people trying to appeal by going as far left as they can. Only recently has there been some indication of changes in the industry, but you can't get rid of rot overnight and people who have been accustomed to burning hundreds of millions of dollars for pushing their ideals to the world without repercussions are unlikely to want to part ways with the power and finances they were once provided.

Saying Cyberpunk 2077 is pro transhumanism is wild. So many of the plotlines in the game are cautionary tales of transhumanism and body modification gone wrong.

Tbh i do find putting "body type A" and "body type B" instead of "male" and "female" really weird, especially since A always looks like a man and B always looks like a woman
I've used the standard female body type to make male characters (and vice versa) dozens of times. It being called Body Type A and Body Type B really makes no difference. The whole point of character creation is that it's a massive list of options to get to your ideal character, and what that character *is* exists purely in your own headcanon. Calling it 'really weird' is just so strange to me, like it literally changes nothing

Boudica as an example of "DEI messaging" just means whoever made the list knows not what either DEI means or who Boudica was. Not that history appears to be a strong suit, apparently they think black people didn't exist in the 19th century or something with a lot of historical games being "too diverse" so I don't even know. This is a painful example of Poe's law.
I like how the list basically... well... lists the woke points if the game has any and that is it. I still got Space Marine 2 and while I agree somewhat with the list's points I find them very minor. The realm of Ultramar is vast so the Ultramarines featuring a diverse set of Astartes makes sense. And the woman in a leadership role in the Astra Militarum, while not statistically likely is a far cry from an impossibility. For every nitpick they "got wrong" they got 50 things right. Such as the Cadians having purple irises, at least the ones that resisted Chaos at the end.

Not impossible by any stretch. Lt. Mira in the first game made alot of sense since everybody above her rank was KIA.
Not having a single Kojima game show up on this list is even more absurd than having certified bangers like Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring and Hades as not recommended.
Dave the Diver didn’t make the entire game about the “wokeness” It just had good fun characters that was a fat guy and a sushi chef who was black. Still of the opinion that Crazy Dave from PVZ is one of the best characters ever made.
I dislike ridiculous woke nonsense same as any normal person, but you can take it too far to the other side. There's bound to be overcorrection. Even Elden Ring is a Woke Game to steer away from just because it has thosed silly body types. I'd prefer it if they'd go back to male and female, but come on. Elden Ring is just a good game that doesn't concern itself with this stuff.
I would recommend a new series of video's from the content creator Th3Birdman "Exposing the Grift" were he unveils peoples biases behind "woke", "DEI" and "modern audiences". On the other hand Armcha1r Expert did a 5 hour stream dissecting the themes of Dustborne how bad they failed from a gameplay and storytelling point, not a reaction recommendation but still very interesting.
I think there’s a discussion to be had when it comes to the line between representation and pandering. However, when it comes to people calling literally anything that comes out “woke,” it’s really difficult to take the conversation as anything less than just grifting or genuine ignorance. When I see lists like this one, it tells me absolutely nothing about how the game actually is; it’s just a petty surface level analysis that complains about political agendas while hypocritically pushing it’s very own. Okay sure, the game has themes of lgbt stuff, climate change, and has black people. Cool, what about the mechanics? The graphics? The gameplay? The quality of the story and characters? That’s my main gripe; it’s easy to just say woke and be done. It doesn’t require any thought behind it; you just point to something, no matter how small or insignificant to the overall experience, and don’t go into detail about anything else while other like minded numbnuts clap like seals. What they don’t realize if they’re doing the exact same thing as the “snowflakes” they hate and are just as not self aware.
