I’ve vacationed in Vegas over 30 times. Staying on the strip is part of the experience. Also the location on the strip matters as well. Our favorite is Caesars Palace because it’s central to great restaurants and casinos. I’ve stayed at all the big name hotels surrounding Caesars if there was no available rooms. I go to as many shows as possible & on my first visit in May 1975 we stayed at The Flamingo and saw Sinatra at Caesars. Vegas was very different back then and I gambled at only 17 yrs old.

There's a line between being cheap and being stupid. *Many* vegas places are designed to rip-off tourists; most of the chef attached restaurants are just profit centers for celebrities. There is plenty of decent value in this town. You can't say "I'm going to burn $5K in some dumb club and not care what it costs". They're ripping you off by design.
@xAA7

I disagree, Vegas is dirt cheap compared to Los Angeles, London, etc. for what you get, especially on the high end scale in terms of hotels and clubs. Depends which city you're from.
@SportsBoss999
@SportsBoss999 3 года назад
Being a fairly frequent traveler to Vegas, I agree 100% with your tips and advice. The best point you made was regarding TIME. Your time on vacation is limited, so you don't want to waste it unnecessarily. Doesn't mean you have to rush around every minute - in fact, you want to take time to relax and enjoy a drink, a nice meal, the sites, the sounds, the weather. But what people don't realize is, your time is taken up by many things - standing in line, waiting, sleeping (you gotta do some of that or you'll be a zombie at the end) and walking - especially walking! The casinos are enormous and although they appear to be close together, they really aren't. I've rented a car before, and you'd think they would save valuable time. Trouble is, the parking lots are way in the back of these casinos and aren't that easy to get to. Then you have more walking ahead of you. Plus, you take up time getting these cars and bringing them back. That can be a hassle as well. SO, if you are staying on the Strip (which I also recommend) and only plan on staying there, renting a car is a bad idea. Like you said, there are Ubers and taxies if you need a ride in a pinch. Well done video. Enjoyed it.
@scottjohnson5415
@scottjohnson5415 3 года назад
And I've seen Las Vegas Boulevard at night become as congested as Times Square and Broadway in rush hour. Total parking lot. You're also right about the parking lots being WAY in the back of the casinos. If you choose valet parking you're gonna shell out some $$$!

There is also the train! I love the Vegas Monorail, You can go from MGM Grand all the way over to the North end of town by Fremont and SLS/Sahara for like 7 dollars.
@SportsBoss999
@SportsBoss999 2 года назад
@@cynthiag1557 Yes the monorail is very good. If you're going to Westgage casino its perfect because they almost drop you off at the door. However, some of the stops drop you off at the back of a casino, and one (I forget where) is like a 15 minute walk to the front of the casino. Like you said tho, it's nicely priced.
@cynthiag1557
@cynthiag1557 2 года назад
@@SportsBoss999 Yeah I think you can get multi-day passes on the monorail even and it will take you all over the city and the strip, and I mean to be fair, a little bit of walking never hurt too many people unless they have a disability but even still, it saves quite a bit on transportation rather than an Uber or a Lyft. I know once I got an Uber from the Omnia Night club at Cesars over to the MGM Grand and I was splitting with a couple friends of mine, and the total for the trip which is a relatively short distance, 27 bucks.

4:35 Resort fees are nearly impossible to avoid even if you stay outside the strip. Best bet is to know about the taxes and fees before booking the room.
@onee
@onee 2 года назад
You can "avoid" them, but then you stay at something like a Holiday Inn (not talking about the vacation clubs), Embassy Suites or some other generic hotel that doesn't really make you feel in Vegas. But if all you care about is "budget" hotels and you really don't care about walking 15-20 minutes to the strip. Then those are ideal. They also sometimes provide a breakfast. But to be honest, if you go to such a hotel during your first few visits, why even go to Vegas? You have such hotels literally everywhere.

We kick it in the LV 6-8 time a year so we tend to know what’s up. These are all great tips. Thank you. Your days in the LV already go by so fast so wasting time doing dumb stuff is no bueno. Don’t over plan. Don’t over do it. I’ll add one that I hear and been asked to do quite a bit. “Hey, let’s keep drinking and just pull an all nighter. Party til the morning...so fun. Let’s do this!!” Rookie no no. You’ll eventually pay for it by sleeping through the day and wear yourself out. We’ve found that the best times in LV are not found at 3AM but mid day/evening time poolside, shopping, seeing the sights and table gaming. One exception: Poker. I’ve sat from 11pm, played til 3-4am (no drinking!!!) and scooped more pots from drunken tourists than I can recall. Very lucrative. This past Saturday night was no exception. Thank you Caesar’s Palace and the three drunks from Houston. You’ll still get your sleep and not wake up a hung over wreck if you don’t liquor up til the wee hours. Pace yourself. Everything in moderation.

The bus is way too slow though on the strip. The express is better than the local, but as Ruby implied, your time is the most valuable thing you have. The bus wastes too much time. I would take the monorail over the bus, but the monorail stations are normally in the back of the properties, leading to long walks to get back on the strip.

You can’t separate the resort fee and the room fee. Together they are the room cost - that’s just the way it is - if you gamble and you win - you will be offered to have your room comped and if you lose you will have offers of free nights waiting in your mailbox by the time you get home. If you have a host and are comped at another casino you can ask to speak to a host and let them know you are looking to find a new casino to gamble at and who your host is at the other casino or casinos and you will more than likely be offered a comp room with a few amenities like a bottle or a fruit basket. Trust me, they want your business.

All good tips Ruby, thx 🙂 A tip that I like to give is go to the players club desk and get a players card as soon as you check into your resort. Then use it whenever you gamble (slots or tables) or when you go to a food place in your resort or affiliated resorts. It also will usually get you a discount at the souvenir shop at your resort too. Then BEFORE you go check out at the end of your stay, go to the players club desk and they will usually comp your resort fees and parking😊 This has worked for me numerous times👍, cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🍻🥂

Thank you Ruby. I enjoy all the videos you and your husband create. There is so much to do in Vegas in general. Some things I never see you cover are hiking at the Red Rock state park nearby or near the Hoover Dam. Helicopter rides/tours or Exotic car experiences on short tracks or at the Las Vegas Speedway. Or ziplining on Freemont Street that looked really fun. The "O" Cirque show at Bellagio or any of the big nightclubs. Everyone is different and wants different things depending on what you like to do. My only suggestion would be to always tell the viewers to bring the best walking or comfortable shoes because no matter where you are you will be doing a ton of walking in Vegas whether you stay on the strip or not. Also my wife and I wanted to know where the best place to see an Elvis impersonator show is? From seeing your Strat video I really want to take my wife there for dinner and see that Michael Jackson show looks like fun. Keep up the good work.

Just got back from my first vegas trip. Just Friday-Monday. Renting a car is a terrible idea. Like you said, parking fees at the resorts plus the traffic is hella bad. You'd lose a ton of your vacay time driving and parking. We took multiple taxi rides per evening and like you said, with a 4 way split, the price is nothing. Each ride was $7 to $10. This is a no brainer!! And for those that think they can walk the strip, think again. I thought I could walk from place to place no problem, but after about a day of doing that, and about 7 miles later, by evening, we all said hell yes to taxi/uber! Just walking from our room and out of the dang resort was a trip in itself! These resorts are hugemongous! And ladies, bring comfortable shoes! If you are eating at a nice restaurant in your resort you can wear heels to dinner then easily change to flats for going out on the strip, but I wouldn't wear heels to a nice restaurant outside your resort if you plan on more activities after your meal, although I did see a few ladies walking the strip in high heels. Some were in stilettos (think Louboutins, the most uncomfortable shoes on planet earth). I don't know how they did it! I love your videos Ruby! They have been a big help to me. I am planning to go back for my birthday in May. I absolutely loved Vegas. It was so much more than I expected. Our food highlights were Oscar's, Joe's Prime Steak and Seafood, and Mon Ami Gabi. I did not get to Peppermill, but will on my next trip.

I agree about not renting a car and staying on the strip. When I go on vacation..part of the fun is not driving and being able to walk every where. We usually stay at The Mirage because of it's location/price. Last time we went we celebrated my husbands 40th. We rented the Presidential Suite at The Wyndham and while it was a bit more walking..it was fine because we got to talk/walk as a group..or we ubered if it was a far walk. But ultimately..staying on the strip is part of the experience and I would highly recommend it. Renting a car just depends. The only way I would do it is if you are planning a hiking trip away from the strip for a day or two...otherwise it is a waste of money.

Great contents on your videos! My wife & I have been going to LV since 1996 (our honey moon) & visit at least once a year. Two things we always do : 1) stay at least 7 days, 2) rent a car. Reason for # 1 : we never want to rush during vacations. We enjoy LV from gambling, shopping, shows (2-3 per visit), & restaurants (mostly off-strip/local favorites). Reason for #2 : traveling off-strip. We purposely try out off-strip restaurants (via Yelp & RU-vid recommendations) & casinos. There are a lot of & unlimited hidden gems when it comes to restaurants. Off-strip casinos also offer lower limits especially during weekends & peak times (anytime after 12 noon !) and free parking. The off-strip casinos dealers are usually friendlier. I play mostly craps and the limits on the strip is usually $25. So, for us renting a car (rental prices are increasing) is a must.

All super correct :). The Vegas experience is all about the strip or downtown. Do not stay off strip unless you don't like fun or people watching. Off strip is a total waste of your time and some areas near your rental may be super unsafe. Vegas is not about driving, parking, and walking around the garage to the casino or trying to find your car. Also, some free drinks aren't worth it. Story on Vital about casinos shrinking liquor pours. However, the higher end casinos have better labels and nice drinks. Many of the others are serving generic brands instead of what you ordered. I order red bull in can so I actually get instead of generic energy drink in glass.

Bring your own drink with you into the casino. If you wait for cocktail service you will spend a bunch of money gambling to get a cheap "free" drink. The most I drink are 2-3 drinks per evening and I have been having to wait a long time for them. That really gets on my nerves.

I totally agree on your point about renting a car. Parking costs on top of the daily rental costs are not insignificant. Also, driving in Vegas these days means a lot of congestion and sitting in traffic. I can do that at home (which is either Providence or Boston traffic- ugh). I'm on vacation, so I'd rather pay someone to deal with the hassle for me while I people watch out the window! You are a bus ride away from Ellis Island. Another bus ride away from Sam's Town. If you stay at the Gold Coast you might even have a complimentary bus to take you to other Boyd Properties. And near Sam's Town, on Boulder Highway and Harmon you have The Longhorn Hotel/Casino. So you could stay off strip and still get around if you want. Or Stay on Freemont Street. I don’t drink so renting a car works for me and I’ve been to Vegas over 500 times. I’ve done the Uber thing as well and it gets very expensive renting a car is like $30 a day and I’d rather feed the slots
@izbo10
@izbo10 3 года назад
@@MichelleSlotChik yeah but the point is the majority do, other than gambling vegas is known for drinking so for most people it is horrible advise and if you give it to someone who you know isn’t drinking fine, but to give it to a random person is kind of useless

You mentioned Ubers but actually the taxis in Vegas are not that expensive either and it is the law that they MUST take you by the most direct route. The advantage of taxis is that you can catch one right out front of your hotel/casino while the Uber/Lyft pick-up/drop-off locations are usually well out of the way.

Play the cheapest slots very slow to get a free drink every once in a while. Stay away from the nightclubs if you can’t afford it, very expensive drinks. And MGM hotels aren’t charging resort fees.

I did stay off strip the first 3 times I went to Vegas. The hotel had a free shuttle to the strip. It felt so good sleeping away from chaotic strip. I definitely slept better. Now I stay on the strip. I like both!

Thanks for your suggestions! Yes, eat, drink, pool, and gamble. It is the way the pioneers of Las Vegas intended it to be. This vid made me remember that it took me - about 8 visits - before I decided to see Hoover Dam. The four hours was a great experience. But, Thank God I never have to leave Las Vegas Blvd again whenever I go.

When I was in Vegas many years ago I spent time at the Keno lounge to stretch my gambling budget and take advantage of free drinks. Fortunately these days I don't need to worry about expenses for things like drinks food or transportation.

Ruby, love your videos and I hope to visit Vegas again this fall. Just have a slight disagreement about staying off strip. I feel you get so much more bang for your buck at off strip casinos. The restaurants are cheaper, the gaming points add up faster, etc. 2 of my favorites are Green Valley Ranch, and the Rampart casinos. Again, love watching, have fun, and win big!

I skip drinking almost entirely and I do rent a car. I'd rather go to off-strip places like Hoover Dam and the winery in Pahrump than start heavy day drinking. I'll have 1-2 coctails at night, in or near the property where I'm staying, and then use the Deuce bus, cabs, or the monorail. I'm not as frequent a visitor as Ruby, but I've been 5-6 times, including when we eloped. 🙂 How Vegas is that?

Other problem with staying off Strip:. With the exception of the area around Palms/Rio/Suncoast off-strip Casinos (which you can walk around between, but the walk sucks) you pretty much are restricted solely to that venue (unless, like you mentioned, you stay on Fremont, which has it's own + and -s). Unless you are going to the Hoover Dam, you don't need to rent a car.

This is old info? Good thing you called out the cracking down. They now check to see how much you are playing. The Golden Nugget, which a hotel I love, has signs at the bar machins saying you need to have $20 in play. As for walking with your alcohol.....try that on Fremont. You cannot!

all of the advice sounds spot on - but personally I love having a car when I'm in Vegas so I can move around on my own, at my own pace and explore all of the wonderful businesses and sights that are not on the strip or downtown. Uber if drinking/planning to drink and drive when sober exploring

I was in the mall part of Cesar's Palace. The clouds on the ceiling and layout were disorienting so I got frustrated and exited through a side door. I ended up stuck in the back of the casino on a super hot day. If you go to Freemont any drink or beer is 1$

Never leave your empty alcohol bottles in ANY hotel room. Technically the hotel must charge a corkage fee per bottle on outside alcohol under state law. It has happened. Worst Vegas advice is to take a taxi anywhere. Grab that Uber and Lift App's. Also the Duce, bus, may be slow at times but saves cash and runs 24/7. One more. If you must rent a vehicle most companies will deliver them to you at your hotel and pick them up if you set it up ahead of time.

We always rent a car, our gorgeous hotel is off strip thru a timeshare, we really pack in our activities, 5 things in one day that are never close , 9 day of 5 activities back & forth would have been to much & all parking was free as of now with the casino cards, had a blast, cant wait 2 go back

I have seen people try the roulette deal you were talking about for the most part the dealers just chuckle, cause of course 0 or 00 comes up and there goes all there money. Also bad advice, I was playing blackjack and these 2 guys sat down and started playing, saying they wanted a free beer. 55 dollars later the guy got his free beer. This was his quote. My free beer that only cost me 55 dollars. ....lol. In other words don't gamble just to get a free drink.

Love your videos, Though i rarely stay on the strip, usually prefer downtown, but thats just me and my girlfriend. We prefer the four queens or el Cortez. Old fashioned i guess lol. Same for me i usually tip the waitress a dollar for a cup of coffee on casino floor, and they come back a lot it seems.

As someone who’s dealt roulette, I don’t really care how you bet. But you’re likely to loose playing black and red. Traffic in Vegas sucks. Rather than rent a car, get a hotel center strip. Our first trip we stayed in a regular hotel to avoid resort fees. Never again. The resorts are worth it. We like the pools and the convenience. However, I never pay for hotels either, just resort fees.

"You can bring up to five different bottles of booze with you in your carry-on." The image in the video at 2:18 shows pretty large bottles. But unless those bottles are less than 3.4 oz each, you cannot bring them on your carry-on and, technically, they all need to fit into a single quart-sized bag.

Hey 👋Ruby yaa I concur with you on those, especially staying off of the strip to avoid Resort fees. I look at Resort fees as part and parcel of any stay with Caesar's or MGM I mean I can blow $30 in 10 seconds doing anything. For us the whole point of going to Vegas is being on the strip the immersive experience. If you're staying on the strip you don't need a car you can boot it anywhere walking. A good option also is the Las Vegas Deuce that double decker bus you can get some pretty good rates for a single day or a few days use it as much as you want. We want the walk out the door on the Strip experience at every place we stay it's awesome

Great advice. Another piece of bad advice is anyone trying to convince you there is a system that can guarantee winning in the casinos. THERE IS NOT! The odds are not in your favor EVER! Just gamble within your means and enjoy the experience. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.

My only concern with taxis and ubers vs. renting a car is cleanliness. Even before COVID my Wife and I got into some pretty nasty taxis. Not sure I would want to risk jumping into a taxi or Uber without knowing it’s been disinfected.

I livid in Vegas for 5 years. Now when I go on vacation I love to rent a nice car as I know the back ways into all the strip casinos and love driving out to Red Rock or South Point for the night! Also I have an MGM credit card so I have Pearl parking privileges, No parking fees at MGM owned properties!

I've rented cars a few times on trips to Vegas with friends before while staying on the strip. Some of the properties have free parking for either guests or if you have a high enough status in their loyalty programs (I know at least Caesars does for Platinum and above members). Now I don't use the car for going places on the strip. That would be insane. Just walk/take the monorail in that case. But I do like to venture off strip to places like Red Rock, the Pioneer Saloon, and random tourist traps around the city. I think the last time I stayed off strip I was at the Wyndham, which was walkable to the strip, near the (at the time Hard Rock), and best of all not far from the Double Down Saloon. It can be a good option if you don't want to spend all of your time on the strip, but it can be a bit of a pain if you mostly want to hang out on the strip. And yeah, if you bet the minimum on a slot machine you'll eventually get free drinks. Just remember to tip. Most of the casino floor bars will also have some kind of drink comps for if you're gambling at the bar. The bar tender will usually ask if you're playing then explain it.

When I visited Vegas we got on the bus which was nice and everybody was distant from each other. You pay like 8-12 dollars for 24 for the bus on the strip. And it help to because we went during the summer
