Honestly I don’t know what they were thinking letting floodgates in Yugioh. I could literally explain floodgates to someone who knows nothing about Yugioh and I bet they would immediately agree they shouldn’t exist

I’m sick of these arguments from Yugi Boomers and Meta Chasing defeatists who are so obsessed with winning that they never enjoy the matches themselves and think everyone is like that. If it doesn’t have a floodgate, maxx c, handrips, unbeatable towers or 5+ negates it has the potential of a good match. Which is 90% of all decks.

I love when people attack posts pointing out how generic extra negates are horrible design and always lead to unfun combo nonsense

I’m fine with negates but there’s way too many generic ones that lead to complete nonsense. Best of 3 really helps but Konami stupidly refuses to do that

@@FrostReave no it's not, you decide to play a game with cards like Maxx C, you have to take it into account that the people you're dueling have it. And most good decks don't care about either so that says more about you than the cards themselves

People already hard combo into 6 omnis; literally just that but every game. Floodgates are completely fine with how many outs there are and handtraps are cool with the exception of blossom because it hits literally everything and is a 3 of in everything.

There are plenty of outs to any card in the game, so by your logic, there should be no forbidden cards. I hope I don't need to elaborate how that is bad reasoning. Using your own logic, Called by the Grave/Crossout Designator/PSYframe Gear Gamma all out Ash, and Triple Tactics Talents/Thrust both punish your opponent for using Ash. Just play those, and Ash is not a problem, right?

I disagree. They basically necessitate either floodgate spam or negate spam and avoid playing the game as intended which is inherently boring. And a bunch of backrow that gets protected without really anything to stop said protection is nonsense.

@@FrostReave Avoid playing the game? The only difference is that they can't OTK turn 3, apart from that they play like any other deck. Runick Spright Fur Hire endboard has 2 negates, 3 at most, the rest is interaction. Runick Naturia ends on Baronne + Sunflower access, that's 3 negates. Both of these decks have to use ressources so you don't just run over the monsters and remove these negates. Also both decks can lose a lot of their power to a single Ash or Imperm. Compare this to meta decks endboard like Purrely (UDF + 2x Noir), Lab (handrip + floodgates), Dlink (Borrelend, Borreload, Branded Beast etc.)... Runick is a unique but healthy deck. There's a lot of variants that are completely fine (Naturia, Spright Fur Hire, Plunder, Ghoti, Swordsoul, Invoked, P.U.N.K., Chimera...). Only one variant is absolute cancer, stun. The solution is obvious.

Floodgates are not necessary there’s nothing wrong with both players playing the game. Floodgates are inherently unhealthy anti-fun cards who’s objective is to stun the enemy player Here’s what your problem is I assume. You are a Yugi Boomer who doesn’t like how modern Yugioh plays so instead of going to an older format or adapting to modern Yugioh you instead whine and make a nuisance of yourself. That's the thing, he doesn't play floodgates in his Runicks. He plays it as a combo engine with Fur Hires and Spright

Personally, I think it's cause there's no skill expression. You either draw the out or get floodgated out of the game. It's not very interactive. And drawing the out isn't very skillful either. At least with combo decks building their board, you can either handtrap them to prevent it from being as strong. Depending on the deck, you might be able to play through their wall of negates anyway. Much more interactive and definitely more skill expressive.

I appreciate the response! I still feel like drawing outs to someone building a board seems similar, but your perspective makes a lot of sense.

Because they lead to inherently boring and uninteractive games. Floodgates can only be countered in one specific way and a bunch of floodgates often lead to unwindable games regardless of what you draw. Meaning most floodgate games are either instant win or instant lose which is unbelievably unfun and lame made worse by requiring zero skill to use.

I'll give an exemple. Mystic mine is a floodgates that prevents the player who has more monsters on the board to acitvate their effect or attack with them. It created A LOT of boring games where both players just drew and passed turns for 20 turns until someone manage to get rid of Mystic mine and win the game after. Even without talking about powerlevel, nobody wants to play a game just for not playing it at all To be fair tho, some floodgates are worse than others. Some requires you to play differently, while others just simply stop you from playing Also, floodgates doesnt look like it, but they are usually onesided. Since you're going to build a deck that functions with the floodgates you play However, I do think that its just a part of a bigger problem, ftk, handloop, 6 negates board are as unhealthy. It's just that the one who makes the combo at least, gets to play, so there is no problem for him

@vladvsplara Mystic mine is the floodgate i've seen that I think is definitely problematic. Other floodgates seem to have ways out but just need to be played differently around (like you mentioned). It feels like if a floodgate is in the meta that isn't mystic mine, you would be required to change your play style, something similar to not summoning 5 times when Nib is meta. But floodgates just seem to be antimeta in that there are a ton of cards that counter them, they just aren't used in the current meta which makes it so that decks either need to change deck lists if it's too strong, or ignore if it isn't strong enough and beatable. But if a floodgate is an instant win against certain decks, it seems likr a scoop or modify the deck to deal with floodgates. There's never going to be a deck that has 100% answers for all decks so that just seems to be a normal for card games imo. I can see the anti-fun aspects for some heavy floodgates like mystic mine, but a lot of floodgates such as skill drain seems on par with breaking a negate heavy monster board to me. What's fun is also going to be subjective because there are a ton of players that enjoy slower paced games (e.g players that play flood or play earlier formats of yugioh because they are slower). That's why I'm a bit confused on the hate for floodgates, because it just seems to be shitting on a play style other people like because it doesn't conform to someone else's. This may be due to my limited yugioh knowledge though since the only floodgates I'm extremely familiar with are anti-speciql summon, royal decree, necrovalley and skill drain which, at least to me, seem fine and breakable.

@@FrostReave does the keyboard warrior feel special calling people things they ain't. To let you know ash blossom, evenly, thrust these far less things stop them. meta decks far to lazy to play spell trap removal and that is the only reason floodgates are an issue especially the traps. there is no difference between summon limit being flipped of a combo deck and ash being used of a lower tier deck both auto end turns without the counter

@@anakinsmith4770 It’s not Lazy to not have back row removal in best of 1 because it’s often a dead card and you often don’t draw them when you actually need them. For the last time “just draw the out” is not a valid argument because if it was there would be no banlist since everything has a counter And there’s a huge difference between a floodgate and a single negate. One is a one time use and interactive the other is lingering and uninteractive which is a massive difference Again these are not defenses for floodgates existing you can’t just point at some decks being weaker then others like it’s an excuse for a toxic card. Floodgates are either draw this very specific out or lose. Which is unintuitive and inherently unfun. You are definitely suffering from skill issues.
