Technical there was a limit to how many cards a deck could have, its just wasn't stated, the limit would be, how many ever cards were playable in this tournament times 3, and then you add 3 3 limited 2 2 limited 1 1 limited and that number of playable cards times 3 plus 6 "limited" cards is the maximum number, its just never stated in the rules but other rules enforce that one, because if you go past that then you would have had to break one of the other rules
As if right now, there are over 10,000 non-limited, non-banned, tournament friendly playable cards, so if you are in a local tournament and they do not enforce the deck limit, just bring all 30,000 of your cards and believe in the heart of the cards lmao
MtG solved the first issue by just making the rule that you must be able to reasonably shuffle the deck by yourself without having to divide it into sections. The hardest, and largest, deck I've ever played was the Battle of Wits deck. Play card: If your deck has more than 200 cards in it at the beginning of your turn, win the game.
Wow, some of these rulings are... kinda amateurish. Not trying to be an MTG snob (not even an active player anymore) but iirc the ruling is more or less that in the case of a loop, players can declare the game a draw, especially in the case of an uncontrolled loop.
In a mandatory infinite loop, the game ends in a draw. If the loop is only technically infinite, as in it's caused by a "may" effect then the controlling player has to specify the number of times the loop will occur.
At least the complaining is valid and towards the product. PTCG has recently been all about how pro players are being clock drs to win series 1-0 because they cant complete 3 games. it's 5 months late of me watching but watching this old content is so much better than TPCI screwing up their next seasons tournament format and pros justifying the legality of them playing the lock to win series vs actually playing the card game as intended. I wish YGO was cheaper and simpler so i could get back into it and not be instastomped by whales or because i lost the dice roll and didnt open hand traps. The people running Konami NA or who ever decides the printing process being different from the OCG are brain dead. I think the only reason why the OCG's printing process is basically the same as Pokemon's is the fact that Japan has a very competitive market of card games that people can choose from so if you dont offer people an affordable way to play your game they'll just leave the game and go find one of the 10's of other in Japan to go play where they dont have to break the bank. Here in NA you have what card games YGO , Pokemon and MTG with some others trying to get their share of the market (still not going to trust that one piece, digimon (which ive heard has been rebooted many times and i have some of their OG cards when they released here in NA the first round) and lorcana are going to stay around in the long run so i wont get into those established card games especially when they dont have an online client and their card availability isnt what the other card games are
Luckily i learned salad when i wanted to get in to ygo during toss (never actually played irl but it was fun to gold fish the deck at home). Recently decided to try MD and used outside resources to learn the new combos ( salad cards really dont have that much text). As Rarran experienced I too lost the coin flip, had no hand traps (because for w/e reason MD DOESNT PROVIDE THE ONLY CARDS IN THE GAME THAT ALLOW YOU TO INTERACT WITH YOUR OPPONENT TO STOP THEM) and then looked at the card text and was like nah bro I ain't reading through all that shit, then got Maxx c'd on my turn and i then conceded without playing a card. If thats what YGO players think is a good new player experienced then their capping. Now i just sit around and queue for my dailies hope i win the roll other wise im conceding and if i get draw step Maxx C'd turn one i also concede. When i can do enough in a few duels to get my dailies i then never touch the game again until the next day. Game is literally a shit show and i dont understand how YGO players are so uptight about the new player experience. "oh well just spend 4 hours finding an archetype you think looks cool, using resources outside of MD to learn how deck works, then queuing into your first game, having to then read the other 20+ essays and still not understand whats going on" Then losing immediately on your turn because the OP set up 40 negates with 1 card and you have not been provided with the tools to actually play the virtual card game. People then concede and look to spend their time else where on games or hobby's that give them fulfillment. Unless you have friends in the sunk cost fallacy YGO you just take that as your first impression of a game and never look back.
MD still has a bunch of generic omni negates that are limited but not banned. Limiting generic extra deck cards doesnt stop people from setting them up going first then dropping C to end the game before you even play a card. It's kinda wild that Konami didnt take the insane player drop off that happened when they initially shadow released MD, I wasnt one of the people that played but every content creator born in the 90's was all over that shit. Then realized that YGO wasnt the same as it used to be and never touched the card game again. MD now is just another NA cash cow for them and a digital space for OCG players to play their game. Tutorial modes suck, maxx c mini game sucks, the game literally being decided by a coin flip sucks, might as well just go to the casino at that point. The future should be getting old time wizard format rulesets on their platform because they're literally so against their contracted content creators from using other platforms like Duelingbook. Like streamers are slowly turning into what old LoL streamer pros were like. Lose the coin flip "well we drew no hand traps guess we lost, this game fucking sucks" . "oh we got FB'd bot lane and we're against a heavy snowball champ game is now extremely hard, this game fucking sucks". Like us english players can complain all we want but the JP company aint gonna listen to shit unless you all quit playing the game and have number drop so far down that the shareholders have to take action and force the company's hand to change shit. Hand traps suck, Maxx C sucks, having a separate banlist for an online client sucks. They also paid to have animation created for a bunch of legacy cards and there is no where to play those cards. Like this shit's insane.
Red eyes fusion says “ using monsters from your hand deck or field as fusion material.” Does not say “use red eyes or red eyes black dragon monster cards as fusion material”. Dragoon says Dark Magician and either Red Eyes Black Dragon or 1 dragon effect monster. Meaning Red Eyes Fusion can Fusion Summon Red Eyes Dark Dragoon using Dark Magician and either Red Eyes Black Dragon or a dragon effect monster as materials from the hand, field, or deck. Red Eyes Dark Dragoon’s name becomes Red Eyes Black Dragon but is still effectively Dragoon and cannot be targeted or destroyed by either player’s card effects, etc.
Oh Coder. Back when I played MTG I always heard that literally every "pro" magic player wouldnt bring a playmat to high level tournaments (Sadly I never had the $$ to hit up out of city events but it's what everyone said when they came back). He should have known as soon as his IRL OP showed up with no playmat that he was in danger.
WotC and MtG I'd say did a lot more R&D for their rules, even at the beginning. The key difference is probably that magic was created by Richard Garfield who was influenced by the insanity that was D&D first and second editions. Compared to Yu-Gi-Oh, created by a manga artist and Japanese media company.
As a plant player I'm glad other plant players took a break from being racist against other types of monsters and took some time to be racist against each other. Also Aroma sweep, nothing gets past gardening Marjoram or gardening Bergamot.
For anyone (like me) coming from the future, it looks the answer to question 1 has actually changed. In its 2022 printing, Sirocco's effect was changed from a condition written as a separate sentence, to an "also" which is part of the ATK gain effect.
It's nice to see how fake news keeps spreading. The thing with the 2222 card deck was in 2008 and not 2007, it was the year that Florian Chitic won the German National in Leipzig with Gladiator Beasts, I was there at the time and can even be seen in the photos!

The whole loop should by rules be send out of play since they are no longer controllable and from there you could bring them back out of the loop. Man these konami rules 🤦♂️

I did this with Exodia while also going for the Forbidden One title. The problem is that if you start popping off, the opponent immediately scoops so you end up playing like 10x the games you otherwise would. Jackpot 7 was a smart (read as: funny) way to go about it.
Finding the right decks to play against casual players is rough sometimes due to the wide variance in power levels among possible decks. I like to bring my Z-ARC deck whenever I'm going for casuals because it's my pet deck, the one I started Yugioh with in 2017, and in the grand scheme of the meta the deck kinda sucks lmao. But in my experience, I could be facing anything from Six Sam (actual fair matchup) to fucking Gadgets (just red yellow and green lol, they dont stand a chance). It's getting to a point where I want to build decks of varying levels like some sort of gym leader lmao, just to have a fun game with people.
As a series of 1v1 duels this works perfectly. Set 2 could easily fix non-introduced mechanics by running fusion thunder dragons against a ritual deck. Set 3 could focus on negations and counter play. Set 4 could focus on 1 turn combos. And set 5 could be about quitting yugioh because all the mechanics together break the fun of the game at the highest ceiling of play.
