Hi! My name is Tim The Lawnmower Man and I love to clean up overgrown yards and make fun videos doing it. I'm able to do them for free as these videos have ads on them and the revenue from that enables me to cover my cost.
I'm always looking for the worst yards around. Sometimes I drive around looking for them, sometimes viewers send me suggestions.

You have done quite well with your multi-stage battle. I cheated and glanced toward the end and this is a WOW. If you are "running out of ideas" it is o.k. Most of us have not tackled anywhere near such an overgrown place. You are pioneering and figuring it out and proving to the rest of us it is possible. So, you figure, try and we know you are persistent and will somehow prevail, because you have managed to do so on all of the smaller and different places you've tried. (Tim's Motto: When in doubt, haul out the small mowers.) :)

This is like someone with a sword whacking on a kudzu forest in the American South - you make headway, the vines return with renewed vigor and grow 3 foot/day like a hops vine, then the jungle surrounds, overwhelms, and falls down flat on you, wherein you have to restart hacking out to get an exit, then have to head back in with a wider and wider path of destruction and desolation so that greater and greater walls of kudzu stand above you, climbing into all the trees, and you pulling them down and out, while the roots of former cut locations, start sprouting and running all over the place, like rugrats, ankle biters, and carpet crawlers, keeping one again having to deal with former cuts, in constantly keeping a desolate patch of land that remains desolate so that it can be expanded on - and finally having to cap a nuke on the jungle and sterilize it to the core ... then one can sweep up the carbonized remains with a broom and dust bin ... then plant some new grass ... while the birds come in and cr*p down seeds of raspberries, blackberries, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac, dandelions, burdock, yellow burr clover, pigweed amaranth, sticky vetch, stinging nettle, cat tails, bull rushes, wild mustard, wild anise, hemlock, wild carrot, mullein, plantain, sumac .... and more GD kudzu seeds ! Aughghghghghghghghghghghghghghhg !!!!!!!

Wow, you said you running out of ideas but I don't know what else you could do...unless you want to crawl across the yard, chopping up vines with a machete. It's like a giant bowl of spaghetti and you have to figure out which noodle to cut first! But I'm guessing you're more stubborn than those bushes. You say it's not pretty. I say it looks awesome.

You need a walk behind string trimmer with a diablo carbide disk saw blade for ground clutter. Also a 700 or above series huskavarna chain saw with a 36 inch chain bar to reach right into the heart of the thatch. Never let a chain saw reach the ground or its worthless almost immediately. For roots at ground level use a reciprocating saw with a collection of diablo blades, they cut even steel and rock. For everything else you seem equiped. Good luck Sir. Being from the pacific northwest USA I understand your plight.

Whew! What a job, but you are doing great. As lovely as jasmine smells it's easy to see what an absolute menace it is! Covers and smothers everything in sight, and will grow back from the tiniest piece left lying around unfortunately. Too bad it had covered the trees and shrubs in the backyard. It was hard to see what they might have looked like, but I think you did the best thing taking it all out. Then to top it off, there was all that tradescentia back by that shed sort of thing. Arrrggghhhh. Almost impossible to get rid of. Anyway you have improved the place 90%, Tim, so don't lose heart, the final 10% will be done next time.

That was a Godzilla bush. I began to wish you had an industrial brush cutter to take it down. 🤣🤣🤣 Your little mower is a dynamo. It mows and brush cuts, and mulches. It just takes longer than the industrial cousin. Using the hedge trimmer to whack the carpet of weeds/bushes/shrubs was an excellent idea. Next time, you undertake a monster job, you could try to recruit some helpers. Maybe, Sean of the Blade Mate can make a trip to Sydney.

You say you are "running out of ideas" when you were "almost at the end"; it looks like you've got the conquering of the vines well under control. I may have concentrated on cutting the vines off where they go from the ground first. Then shearing them into manageable piles to move. Too bad you didn't apply a herbicide to delay/prevent the return of the vines.

I agree. Easy yard care is key. I have a small yard. But as I have gotten older, I am making adjustments for even easier maintenance that I can still do. My plants are all perennials so I only have to do a little end of season clean up and I have a thick layer of fine mulch in my flower beds so not a lot of weeding to do. I have a lilac tree by my front window, entrance to my house that is aggressively pruned every other year, and also trimmed well. Tiny lawn, takes me less than five minutes to mow the front and maybe ten minutes in the back. No bushes or alot of trees to worry about. Keep it simple as you age. Make sure your maintenance crew knows this.

Thankfully our yard is nice and maintained but even so it’s a lot of work to remove one bush. We removed one bush tonight and filled the garbage bin.
