There's a lot of bad marriage advice out there. Control and manipulation tactics. Tracking, spying and hacking your spouses devices. Having an open marriage. Watching pornography together.
We've heard counselors, therapists and other marriage "experts" tell people to do these things because it can lead to the reconciliation of the marriage.
THIS IS HORRIBLE ADVICE.
After decades of working with thousands of couples, we know what works and what does not. We also know the best empirically-based research that has been verified by the worlds leading researchers.
So let's talk about all of these tips and advice that some people have said is a great idea. We want to go ahead and bust ALL of the myths out there that these things can lead to a better marriage.

What is the worst advice you've received from a "marriage expert"? 🤔 We are genuinely curious as we have heard some wild stories.

Over Christmas my husband told me he wanted out of our marriage. I was blind sided. I am so hurt, confused, angry, sad and every other emotion possible. He’s developed feelings and is in emotional relationship with a co worker who is also married. I’m sure it’s gone further now. We have had our issues but I never expected to be in this position. We are still living under the same roof because neither of us can afford to move out, to say this is difficult is an understatement. My emotions are all over the place. I unknowingly did the no contact thing, but it was purely a natural instinct for me. For my mental and emotional health to remain somewhat intact, the less I see of him the easier it is to accept and move on.

I’m sorry Jenny. My wife did the same thing 2.5 years ago. Granted it was my anger that pushed her away. I hurt her, I made our home unsafe and she doubts change can happen. She is living on her own in a safe and affordable place and trying to heal. I say this because we can’t control what our spouse does. Sometimes they do thing because of selfishness and sometimes they do things in response to our actions. The best thing you can do is truly make yourself the best person you can be and focus on what you can which is how you respond and and choices you make based on your growth. I’m praying for your marriage, I’m praying for you and your spouse growth perhaps in faith and that you find what “Love” means and are pulled to that strength. God Bless.
