Don't forget about stench gaming they do custom PS5 and Xbox Pro controllers. But it's crazy if you want all the bells and whistles with a cinch controller it's like just over $333. But the offer is you can customize all the colors of the controller in the buttons which I prefer the PS5 onen assets more customizable. I'm not sure if they're using the dual sense. But you can basically have it so that the d-pad are clickable buttons for instant response and same for the the Eldar buttons you can have clickable which especially if you're in like in a first-person shooter game the others had that little bit more of an edge cuz you're going to get the instant shot versus having to pull the triggers all the way in. Also to they make for the Xbox and for the PlayStation 5 controller they have four extra buttons you can get underneath which adds an upcharge the most to your order. It's like over 80 bucks. You can get it with 2 buttons if you want half the price. But the difference between the Xbox One vs the PS51 one is you can pay an extra $30 and be able to have the ones on the PS5 remappable to whatever buttons you want. But it's cool you can choose whatever color you want for the front, for the back, for the middle, for the touchpad, for the X, triangle, square, and circle they all have to be the same color where is the Xbox one you can choose individual colors. The analog sticks you can choose which color you want and which ring you want on the inside. You can choose the color of the d-pad. If you want to choose the colors for the analog sticks but you want them to be able to be adjusted for the height you can only get black ones which is an additional $20. Pretty much every add-on you do and adds on another few dollars another few dollars and if you basically add everything which you can also do laser engraving. Getting minus the laser engraving come out to just over $333 but they do have a 20% off code save you around $66.60. Some of those two for the backs of the Playstation or Xbox controllers you can look like it has splattered paint. I do know that some companies make modded controllers where you can like havit rapid-fire and different things like that but I think from quench Game of Thrones are probably the most expensive one I have seen.
Pretty much all of these controllers cost over $100. $52,000 a year is a fair salary for a lot of people which breaks down to roughly $200/workday. Assuming an 8 hour workday, one of these controllers costs you half a day or more of work. It kinda seems crazy
I own a scuf and absolutely love it it is a bit pricey but coming from someone that actually uses it I think it’s totally worth it it’s sooooo we’ll made and it’s definitely not a “modded”controller it’s its own thing
14:59 “I think the edge feels better” in what way? If it’s exactly like a regular dual sense how would it feel better? Anyone who’s held an Elite Series 2 (forget the QC issues) would say it’s the most premium feeling controller, it’s heavy, smooth rubbery, metal, magnets everything the dual sense edge doesn’t have. Even snapping the sticks in place it’s just you pushing plastic and snapping It into more plastic. Unlike the elite that uses metal sticks at the base and magnets. I had the Edge for 6 days, and I couldn’t justify $200 on it. It just felt like a more expensive controller that comes with your PS5, lacked so many features and horrendous battery life. The one thing I admittedly still love is the haptics. Yes Elite Series 2 rumble sucks and it’s also poorly used in games.
This is a great video that deff brings up how ridiculous the pricing is for a "pro" controller, but I disagree with the rumble feature. Many gamers, including myself, turn off rumble to prevent it from affecting my gameplay. That's why I would be okay with a lousy rumble if everything else is excellent. I'm surprised you guys never mentioned those back buttons clip-on adapters, IMHO, those things are perfect because you get the back buttons with any 1st party controller.
1:14 in matts defense he did say he doesnt play fps games. You can use controller for pretty much anything else these days. Unless youre playing something like divinity original sin 2.
Alright I have to ask the thing looks cool as hell what is the green light behind Austin in the background it almost looks like an original Xbox startup thing but I know it's not but it looks hella awesome
Those prices, wow, just wow.......... Cannot understand why they cost so much, could it be a case of companies assuming gamers have more money than sense?
I check everyday for release date on the raikiri pro! I can’t for this controller, it looks amazing. The back buttons is placed exactly like I want them to. I’ve had 4 elite 2’s. All failed face buttons. Done with that! I need a good “pro” controller and can’t seem to find one.
Sorry I just started watching the video and I have to make a public service announcement. The best controller was from a 90's game console. Yet here we are 20 years later still using analog pots for all the elite controllers. As an FPV drone racer, we've upgraded our controllers to Hall effect about ten years ago..... What is causing the lag in professional gaming controllers?
Power A is just terrible. I work in a game store as a repair tech. I have opened so many of these up to clean the analogs to try and fix drift. They are so incredibly cheaply made. Even the "pro" ones are garbage. Add on to the fact that they use a proprietary shaped cord, that means they force you to buy their cable. It's not even a unique connector, it's just a usb micro B, but the actual shape of the case around it is such that you cannot plug in any other cable into the controller except theirs. This means our store has like 8 of the damn things lying around with no way to know if they are working because we don't have the cables. To add on to this, most "pro" controllers use the same analogs as their "lesser" models, meaning they don't actually even perform any different. My advice is that pro controllers are barely any better than the base models. Most are built more solidly sure, but the actual hardware is still the same. When someone brings in a controller for drift repair, we replace it with the same analog that costs less than a $1 each. The base model Xbox and PS5 controllers are the best you can get and half the price of these scams.
The biggest problem with the power a controllers if you are thinking of getting one is that once your cable breaks even though it’s a micro usb cable you can’t just connect another micro usb cable in once it breaks for some reason it dosent fit so you basically have to buy another controller all over again Edit: They fixed this issue by replacing it to a type c connector
The funny part is the new one is type c but it still has that weird locking tab thing and some cords don't fit like my type c for my scuff instinct pro doesn't fit 🤣
When they talked about the lack of PS controllers I was like what about the Astro C40? I got one then ended up returning it since it was over $200 new but preowned I actually think I’m gonna buy it again. I genuinely liked it but I was working a shit minimum wage job the first time I got one.
Matt almost hammered home the reason why the Elite series of controllers should be S-Tier. The size and weight is a plus but the reason for that size and weight is because of the build quality. I have both Elite controllers and I've admittedly dropped them, thrown them, spilled things on them, and opened them and they still work fine. Not just that but they still look new! The shell is crazy durable and the metal sticks make them feel smooth still to this day. Another thing I love about the series 2 core.... When my series 1 eventually does die, all the parts will be compatible with the series 2 core so I'll basically have the full pkg for the reduced cost, rather than having to buy the whole thing again They also added Elite controllers to the design lab recently so Scuf has some competition in that dept.
I swear I had a module swappable controller back during PS2/360 (i bought it for my modded ps2 but i remember mostly playing my 360 around this time.) I remember getting two of them brand new at a goodwill. They were see through red plastic with black bits but I can't for the life of me find any info about them online.
I went out of my way to buy an Xbox elite series 1 controller in like new condition for when my current series 1 eventually dies. I do not want a series 2 mainly because I do not like wired controllers and when you have to charge it while you're playing that's what it becomes. Not to mention my current series 1 that I've had for literally years has absolutely no functional problems and no stick drift whatsoever.
Me highly underrated Wii u pro controller steering at Austin silently from a corner seeing as it got on neither this list or the normal controller list. Like seriously, why does no one talk about it? Like at least with the fact that it has the feature of a battery door so you can take out your rechargeable battery when it ends up completely dying and replace it down the line, unlike PlayStation controllers where you have to take the entire thing apart. It might not be hot swapped like Xbox controllers, but the battery lasts for longer and can be replaced easily.
Honestly dual sense edge, c tier at best. Back paddles are OK, but the swappable sticks is a total gimmick. The price is so much higher with such crappy battery that you'd be better off just getting a different controller when after a year this thing is pushing 2 hours of battery life. While my elite series 2 took 30 minutes to install hall sticks and lasts damn near 20 hours. And still cost less with a better feel in the hand. With how small the battery life on it is, it's more likely to need replacing than the sticks.
What's crazy to me is how willing consumers and reviewers are to praise these multi-hundred dollar controllers that companies are intentionally stuffing full of defective tech that we've had solutions to for over 20 years. I'm sorry, but no controller over $50 in 2023 without hall effect joysticks deserves an B rating, much less an A or S rating. Stop setting the bar so damn low for these corporations. And seriously? How in the ever loving f*** do you defend a $200 controller without hall effect joysticks that has battery life as shitty as the DualSense Edge? There are phones that a quarter of the size of that controller that have 30hr+ batteries. And that's with a whole 6" screen on there. I honestly don't understand how reviewers set the bar this damn low. And before some doorknob responds to me with some clown comment about the joysticks being replaceable, being forced to buy more defective joysticks that will inevitably fail to replace your original defective joysticks which inevitably failed is not a solution.
Considering where the standard pack-in controllers are these days you've gotta do a pretty decent job of upping your game. The problem is for double or even double and a half the price you really need to bring it and then some not basically be the same thing or worse. Literally the only one on this whole list I would even consider besides the official ones would be that I think PDP one. $75 is exactly the maximum that I'd be willing to gamble on this although I'd still want to see many reviews first.
I've been running an xbox elite 2 controller for years. ONLY because the xbox one s controller I had died from PC use and abuse for the odd game that I used it with. The elite 2 is great, way too much money. The extra buttons and swappable thumbsticks for height, is a real bonus. No thumbstick extenders required. Its cool. Its expensive. Do you need it or does it give you an advantage. Nope. My xbox logo on it lights up red though.
What about the Astro C40 for the PS4? It served me really well for about 3 Years, had swapable Modules, different Thumb sticks, a carry case and I believe it used a USB C Cable (but I could be wrong about that) right now I see it going for $100-$120 used, And Astro are selling refurbished Models for $170. I know that's a lot for a PS4 Controller but in the span of 3 years I went through 10 DualShock 4's due to stick Drift and I don't Know how Many Micro USB B Cables I went through, and I was sick of them. Easily the best purchase I made during my PS4 days. 9/10 would recommend.
I think it was completely garbage customer service was decent they actually responded and sent joysticks replacements but I honestly hated this controller a regular dualshock with the 20$ back paddles will forever be better imo
I use a power A fusion 2 which is there pro controller and I love it I've had it for a little over a year and play cod and other games but mainly warzone and I have very minimal if any stick drift at all and in the time I've had it I've had a elite 2 and regular Xbox controller and choose the power A. One problem I have with it is that it has weights in it to make it feel premium
The Elite Series Controllers are fucking garbage. I had to send mine back to Microsoft so many times that I just gave up because they would literally send me a broken one back every time. I even paid $100 after the warranty expired, only to continue to receive stick drifting, broken shoulder button controllers repeatedly. IF YOU WANT A QUALITY PRO CONTROLLER, GET A RAZER WOLVERINE V2 CHROMA. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE.
Honestly I agree with all of these ranking except, the Nintendo pro controller, I feel like it should be rank F only cuz it’s a normal controller nothing new and very light
the fact that none of 8bitdo's controllers made it on this list is really weird i own an 8bitdo pro 2 controller and it is such a delight to use, such a versatile controller, great battery, great button feel, symmetric sticks (this is an opinion but whatever), and the great D-pad, the amount of customization you can get is really amazing also worth mentioning, the removable but also rechargeable battery makes it a great controller
Pro controllers are 100% necessary. If you’re playing any kind of game where you have to actively use the right stick, and the face buttons, pro controllers make it 10x easier. I’ve had one since 2018ish and it’s been borderline impossible to revert back to a normal controller. Btw the razer wolverine tournament edition controller is the best controller I’ve ever used.
Personally I would put elite series 2 S+ TIER For its prise I love the back pedals and the idea of the button profile switching! I love that it come in a case that you can charge controller whilst in its case! I have The Elite Series 2 and I use it constantly on my PC for open world and other types of games, but not for the FPS Games FPS Gaming belongs with Keyboard and mouse Personal opinion! My Verdict for the Elite Series 2 Controller would have to be a solid Sor S+ Tier Personal Opinion!
@@cyrus4723 correct but the ability to use The Keyboard and Mouse on FPS games has significantly made better accuracy and faster weapon switching amongst other vast improvements I have pc and Consoles and owns FPS Games on both, fps is way better with Keyboard and mouse!
If the Dual Sence Edge ever is on sale for $150, I'll get one. $200 is just crazy, and $185 is just Sony, messing with us. $150 is totally acceptable, for a controller like this.
As someone who has a Scuff instinct pro.. I love it especially the hair triggers have a mouse click setting its really nice...but I won the controller in a giveaway I don't think I would ever spend my own money on it....I also own multiple power A fusion controllers and I think they are great pro controller for the price...
so the rechargeable batteries in the Xbox pro controller are great, it feels much more sturdy, it has joystick tightening which is useful for when you swap games. And the ability to change the distance on the triggers is really useful for shooters. And the back paddles are a total game Changer. But this only really Applies if you play competitive shooters. But I understand that Austin isn’t really in that demographic….. and yes they are wayyy to expensive. also i wrote this before i finished the video.
I'm genuinely confused -- have neither you or the guys on here heard of rechargeable AA batteries? They're way easier: if your controller's flat, you just change the batteries.
So Scuf controllers are actually probably my favorite controllers of all time. Ive had a 360 scuf and a Xbox one scuf and both are amazing. Ive been using my xbox one scuf for a few years now and its still going strong.
I legit hate ps5 controller. The triggers feel wrong and move weird. I have dropped it 10+ times when it gets even slightly intense. Xbox controllers just don't have that issue
I had a Razer Raiju Tournament Edition (PS version of the Wolverine V1) and god it was so awful. Firstly, because it was felt like a big chunk of a brick. It was so heavy, that after 2 rounds of Apex Legends, i had to take a break, because my hand get tired, to holding it. Also, it was useless in wireless mode. I was kinda happy, that after like 8 months, the left joystick started to drifting, so i was able to return it, and got my money back. Returning to the Dualshock 4, was a real relief.
None of these should exist. I feel sorry for everyone who overspent on them. Games are developed for their hardware. I dont care if you're a twitch streamer with 1 billion subscribers, having to need all this specialized equipment and absurd amount of money in order to be good makes you bad. It's like bragging about an nes game when you used the game genie to do it. First game I played was venture on colecovision.
Bro, pro controllers are not a egregious market to get you to spend more money on a controller that you don't need to. For example take the first person shooter battle Royale like Apex. If you hold the controller the standard way that everyone does you are gonna be very limited in your movement. For example, you won't be able to look around and jump at the same time if you have jump mapped to x and so on. obviously, you could map it to a bumper but then what are you gonna map your shooting button to. So overall, you're very limited. Pro controllers give that option to have more buttons on the back of the controller that you can press with the fingers you're not using so you can do multiple actions at the same time like jumping and looking around her, jumping and sliding and get much more movement and have better movement in your game, make a new much better at the game. They're very useful and not a waste of money or useless in the slightest.
This list is completely wack. Everybody knows Austin is a ps fan boy and thinks folding phones are God gift to the world. Also the rumble on the elite 2 is perfect. Don't disrespect nintendo like that.
i think the switch pro controller should be f tier. I have 2 of them and yes they are better than joycons but that is all they are. Even with a high price of $70 they don't even come close to even the xbox 360 controller from so many years earlier
I kind of need pro controllers. My hand got crushed at work losing me my index finger and my thumb. My thumb got replaced with one of my big toes but has limited feeling and motion. For me to game i need the extra triggers on the pro controller or i need the likes of 8 bitodo controllers so i can remap buttons and make use of the extra ones on the back to game properly.
Nah fam Xbox elite controller is the biggest waste of money every single person I know the owes one there RB is broken they make them to break you so have to keep buying them I’ve had my scuff for 5 years not one issue
some Pro Controllers are nice looking and the back buttons do help in some cases but the majority of them are just Way over priced so they are just not worth it
I was going to mention the Astro C40 controller but I forgot I originally got it when I had a PS4 and I have since switched to solely PC gaming and sold my PS5. The Astro C40 is a decent controller if you have big hands. I’ve had it for over 3 years and only had to replace one of the joysticks which I would call a win. It still works perfectly fine with PC games and PS4 games but ASTRO has come out and said that PlayStation is the one blocking any updates from coming out to support it on the PS5 so I assume the rest of these pro controllers included in this list were chosen based on being compatible with current gen consoles. While you can still use the Astro C40 controller with a PS5, you are limited to PS4 ported games only. PS5 games will not work with the controller. That being said, if you like a larger controller and having the access to swap the D-Pad and Joystick, or just the piece of mind that the modules can be replaced, the Astro C40 has been great for me. The replacement joysticks are only $20 and the app is easy to navigate. The texture and feel of the controller is slightly rubberized which has helped me with sweaty hands. The only issue I ever ran into was having to manually switch which driver my PC was using to recognize the controller a couple times. It looks like Astro has pulled the production of the controller from their site but you can pick a refurbished one up from them for $170 or you can pick one up for around $60-$120 on EBay based on recently sold ones. Astro was one of the first to introduce the swappable D-Pad and Joystick modules and it’s cool to see these other controllers coming out sporting the same concepts. It’s cool to think that even over the 4 years it’s been since the release, it seems like Astro had the hardware down pretty well considering controllers with similar functions are still comparable in size. That was the main thing that steered my friends away from the C40 but I have no issue with it since I usually either have my hands resting on my desk or in my lap when I’m playing and it’s still comfortable to hold. Anyway, thanks for the entertainment. I’ll continue holding onto my C40 and using it as my primary controller for the time being. Xbox Elite Series 2 is compelling but not at it’s current price.
While I've never tried the Pro version I have had several PowerA controllers and one thing I know for certain is that they do not last. The longest run I've ever had with one is about five months before either an analog stick or a trigger went funky.
I was gonna say this as well. PowerA is great on a budget, but you'd better get used to paying out for replacements or popping the back cover for maintenance. I can't imagine their pro offering is much better than their base models.
I don't play FPS much, mainly third person and racing games. When I started gaming I mainly used the DualShock 4 with software, or a Logitech Game Pad because they could be either X input or direct input. When I first used an Xbox controller with my PC games, I never went back to those. I have had Xbox controllers for a while now and I recently had the Elite 2 customized through Design Labs. Then bought the new white Elite 2 (without addons) on Amazon because they had a sale for $115. I carry the custom one with me and leave the white one at home. After I got used to the paddles on the back, using the normal Xbox controllers was a problem because my fingers were naturally always looking for the rear paddles. Mapping buttons to the paddles so I can use the right thumb just for aiming and looking around helped a lot in third person games. At first I thought I was going to have issues coordinating 4 additional fingers to press buttons, but it took less than an hour to get used to it. Yes, it's a lot of money. I was looking at the Scuf ones for a while, but the fact that they're normal Xbox controllers with extra buttons and a paint job doesn't justify their price over the Elite Core (in my opinion). I have a PS4 that I barely use, so if the Dual Sense Edge was backwards compatible, I would definitely give it a try.
I think this is pretty spot on. I have both the Elite Series 2 and the DualSense Edge, and I think they both have their ups and downs. I think the triggers feel better on the Elite when they're in "click mode" and better on the Edge when used like a regular controller. The Elite also has 4 paddles instead of 2 and massively longer battery life. They both feel great in the hand. I do wish the Edge came in a color other than white. The rubber grips on the inside of the handles are already stained from me palm gravying all over the thing the last month or so.
As much as a love my Xbox Elite series 2, I am on my 5th one. 3 times I got stick drift, and the last time was my left bumper just stopped working. I miss the series 1. I had the same one for years and years!
Just wondering why the Astro c40 controller was not included. i know it doesn't have pro in the name but it includes a lot of the pro controller features. programable buttons and swappable sticks, and the other Pro controller by GuliKit with their KingKong 2 Pro Controller that has the electromagnetic sticks. ? both controllers are worthy of consideration in the pro controller market.
The swappable stick modules of the DualSense Edge seem very cool but for that price I rather buy lunch and 2 spare normal controllers for when the sticks or some other button starts to fail on the one that came with the ps5.
My Elite series 1 lasted me over 6 years, with alot of COD multiplayer the whole time. Series 2 broke my heart, with minimal use the springs in the sticks lost so much tension and introduced alot of flop. On top of that the right bumper started playing up. All this with the core model, which was supposed to have refined new components according to Microsoft. I've reviewed the Elite S2, Wolverine V2 Chroma,Gambit,Fusion3,Raikiri and did a head to head Edge vs Elite, in my opinion Edge is an amazing controller with terrible triggers. I've put so much time on edge since getting it on launch, it's still like day one, the right stick only needs .02 deadzone in COD. For Xbox the gambit and fusion pro 3 are my picks, the Asus Raikiri is a really good controller but for the price, Gambit and Fusion 3 beat it. The Raikiri Pro looks like an amazing controller and I'm kicking myself now for buying the Raikiri and not going for the pro. Xbox also have Gamesir stuff, I've just reviewd the G7se with hall effect sticks, so when it comes to Xbox vs PS, sony kinda leveled the playing field with one expensive, amazing performing pro controller.
Got a BFG as a gift and its trash. Worse than the $70 PS5 controller in every way. The stick was sticking on day one, bluetooth connection drops randomly, no haptics, and it feels cheap.
I have the elite V1 & V2, and no stick drift on either with over a year of intense use. However, the shoulder bumpers are garbage just like the Mushy face buttons
not addressing the entirety of the video but just to DESTROY the "scuff" price argument, Xbox Controller lab gives you SOOO Much customization and doesn't cost you $220.... and is actually licensed and sold through the Microsoft/xbox website vs SCUFF not even having a playstation home button because they literally can't....
The Gulikit KingKong 2 Pro Switch controller is way better than the Switch Pro controller. Hall Effect joysticks and triggers and works on PC and Android as well. And it's $60. Works great for emulating Dreamcast games since it actually has a hall effect joystick it works good for Crazy Taxi.
I use controller not only on rpg open world but in fps too. Obviously on PC there's no aim assist and I always disable it anyway. You could say that I'm at a disadvantage but I can get decent amounts of kills. My fingers literally cramp when stretched over a keyboard. You also get the benefit of triggers to control intensity of driving and breaking and the vibrations offer great immersion.
Its funny seeing non-Pro players rank these pro controllers… there’s a lot more features on these controllers and definitely gives you an advantage IF YOU NEED IT. No hate, love the content but this video is just funny to me lol
