18:40 The irony is that Nintendo for many years held the patent on this type of D-pad and was vicious about litigating it, but the minute the patent expires they forgot how to make it entirely
At least the D-Pad for Wii and Wii U controllers were good, but once the Switch came, they barely tried to make either the Joy Cons and Pro at the very least, decent.
@@lol-ih1tl yeah, for ON. THE. GO. The fact that Nintendo gave us an actual GOOD D-Pad on the Switch Lite, a system STRICTLY meant for Handheld play only and doesn’t connect to a dock, not to mention not including it on the OLED MODEL AT LEAST!!!…. *NINTENDO, A GIANT CORPORATION* “Some friend you turned out to be :(“
I love how Scott always commits to the bit, and seems completely willing to destroy his things for a quick laugh. Like, I wonder how much money he's spent on cutaway jokes now.
@WarKeineAbsicht I assumed that too, knowing he have bought used bundles of NES catridges for merch. Somehow I'm imagining Scott having a sort of shopping checklist for "props to destroy" before making an episode lol
its too bad there aren’t many pro-controllers willing to express their opinion, so it’s cool to hear Scott talking about this, coming from a pro-controller myself!
The part about the switch pro d-pad reading wrong inputs hit close to home, can't tell you how many times I've played botw and tried to switch weapons while the controller decided "oh i think you meant to press _down_ actually" and whistled to alert every enemy in the vicinity
@@Rubiktor012Yeah I think you need to put a few bits of tape around the contacts. Gotta be careful though, because you can inadvertently disable diagonal inputs
@@teathesilkwing7616 the first few batches of the Switch pro controller had that problem. Since they released the Xenoblade 2 version they fixed that problem by extending the central "pillar" of the d-pad so it registered more correctly. Spawn Wave made a video about that iirc
The united states military is using technology and manpower to protect deviant sadistic Child SAers that are misusing their access to advanced tools to spy on, harass, and forcibly SA children. This sometimes follows them into adulthood. Children that are still too young to know that what they are seeing is not normal are being exposed to disgusting deviant content that is forcibly shown to them by hacking their devices. Many victims may not even know they have been targeted by this, because the majority of the actual SA happens when they are slipped something that incapacitates them or they are asleep, the only reason they might know is because the perpetrator may leave behind physical evidence, like bruises, scratches, or bodily fluids. If a victim discovers what has happened to them these worms will misuse equipment and manpower to stalk, shame, mock, and generally try to make the lives of the people affected by this as hellish as possible both offline and online. They follow victims in person and try to intimidate or harass them. They generally use different people who act as though they aren't affiliated with each other and don't do anything they can be arrested for at the time of the harassment. They think they can shame and mock their victims into silence because some of what happens is coerced. These are depraved cowards that gather in groups to harass solitary women and children just to protect deviant SAers. They harass the victims to try to instigate a violent reaction that they can be locked up for. This is a strategy they have used for decades against enemies in different contexts, only the child SAers use it to try to get rid of victims with the aid of advanced military technology.
You never realise how many games benefit from back paddle buttons until you use them. Being able to move the camera while jumping or attacking is extremely useful in a huge amount of games
Paying for a more decked out controller and struggling to undo muscle memory I've had since childhood sounds miserable. I'll just play slightly worse lol.
20:55 Scott has his old background for his original place for the original Xbox controller shot Like a dozen people will notice that, and it's for a throwaway gag This is why Scott the Woz is the best RU-vid channel
I see the top floor roof so i can easily tell, though thanks for pointing it out because i wasn’t originally looking intently at the screen during that part, but it’s a hilarious bit hearing him say this sucks synced up like that hah.
Eh it kind of feels artificial at some points it didn’t work at all for the bootleg gaming video but the script worked in some cases like the chili cookoff
I had a friend with a pro snes controller. He set it up in Mario RPG to max out his stats. Just left it on, walked away, and came back fully leveled up. Blew through the whole game after that.
As part of the Wii U Pro Controller Defence Force, i was ready to jump to it's defenses when this video dropped, but Scott actually represented it quite well here. We can rest easy this time
I will hard defend the layout, it is exceedingly comfortable compared to the 360. Imo, people were just forced into liking that layout due to the ps3 failing for most of its life
The reveal of that first gag is art. I'm going to be quoting "that fancy professional videogame controller he brought TO THE CHILI COOKOFF" until the day I die.
@@tomrees82Splatoon 1 had a local 1v1 mode called Battle Dojo where one player uses the GamePad and the other uses the TV with either a Wii U Pro Controller or a Wii Classic Controller (Pro). Since neither of these controllers have built in motion sensors, the GamePad player is always at a disproportionate advantage. Nintendo made a post on Tumblr IIRC instructing players to tie a Wii Remote Plus (or just a normal Wii Remote with a Wii Motion Plus connected) to one of these controllers which would allow you to control the camera with its gyroscope. Enabling this mode also requires inputting a specific button combination at the main screen for Battle Dojo. Once you've done all of this, it does indeed work. You control everything with the normal controller while the Wii Remote handles the gyro controls, though it won't be quite as responsive and precise as the GamePad.
I swear, every time I think Scott has covered every gaming topic out there, he keeps proving me wrong , it truly does feel he’ll never run out, and that’s fine by me.😁👌
If there are no general topics left, he can still talk about specific games (as he already did quite a lot). And you know there are still at least a few games out there + they just continue to come out.
12:22 I love how after Scott makes a roof tiling joke, you'd expect that his roof would fall on him in the next scene, but nope. he just gets shot instead!
Wii U pro controller was so close to perfection. The analog stick arrangement made the buttons and d-pad perfectly replicate the SNES layout in the lower half. All it needed was analog triggers and motion control. I personally find it the most comfortable controller and still use it with my Switch today over the Switch pro controller.
fun fact, playing gamecube games on modded wiis through nintendont (which isn't emulated, and just uses the direct gamecube backwards compatibility innate to the system) DOES let you use the classic controller in place of a gamecube controller, and THAT even allows for methods to access the wii menu from inside of a gamecube game without restarting the whole system.
@@Texelion3Dprintsfrom what I can tell from the behind the scenes, most of the stuff is already broken. He uses the same non-functioning DS a lot for example
I rarely comment on any videos, but I feel like I have to say- Scott and his team are one of the rare few channels (in my humungous list of content creators I subscribe to,) where I have thoroughly enjoyed watching how the production quality, scripting/acting, humor, etc. have developed into something so special since I first subscribed. It has been/is fascinating to watch. Every video gets noticeably better and better. Maybe I am weird, but it takes a lot for me to actually "lol" but these guys work their magic and make it happen. The humor in these videos is exactly my style apparently! I love it, they have nurtured and developed their style into something truly unique and special. Thanks to them for all the hard work!
@@shadowwolf9823 10 years from now on there will be holographic youtube shorts with a scott the woz clip with subway surfers gameplay playing below to maintain viewer retention
25:46 this definitely belongs in a no context video. seriously how does scott do it where the content is funnier out of context than in, when the content is so good to begin with.
18:24 I think it's hilarious how Scott accidentally said "Joy-Can" instead of Joy-Con and he probably heard the mispronunciation error and just ended up keeping that in the video.
these past few episodes keep making me worried that we might not get a true "hey all, scott here!" and then i always breathe a sigh of relief when it happens near the end
As someone who used to play competitive shooters on Xbox all the time the Elite controller 1 & 2 made a HUGE difference when playing games. Being about to turn and look around while consistently using any other the action buttons on the right was a game changer.
Someone who just barely figures out you can turn while using face buttons has never been exposed to the true ancient eldritch knowledge known as claw gripping. Saves you like a hundred dollars too.
@@queuedjar4578 I tried claw grip and hated it lol. I never was able to get used to it. But also the joystick tension and longer joystick made aiming feel soooo much better in games like rainbow six siege. The trigger stops were really good for pistols and the new d-pad is so good for fighting games. This controller is just all around everything I needed lol.
@@queuedjar4578 or even in certain games you can even give yourself easier free mapping buttons with they paddles by binding something important to a useless/less important button (usually a d-pad bind) and then map the paddle to that button.
The best thing about the Xbox Elite Controller, is with the remapping the buttons to whatever, and the added paddles, it's actually great for accessibility. I have nerve damage in my hands, and a couple buttons and movement combos are very tough for me to do, especially in longer sessions. Being able to add those paddles and give them certain functions is a huge help for me
This is what I was thinking of the whole time. I don't need these things, but I've seen people who do. It's great to have an option out there for a legit controller that allows remapping and the attachment of custom paddles is ingenious. It sucks that the price point is so ridiculously high for it, but I suppose that's probably less money than having to take apart a controller and build your own accessibility device into a tray table or the like. Especially if you aren't a DIY master like the ones I've seen. Wish he'd at least mentioned accessibility.
The fact that Scott peaks his microphone on multiple occasions for a joke (sometimes not even intentionally) is something I will always find hilarious. Keep being you, Scott.
One second in, and you’ve already killed me with Jerry Atricks saying “Hey all, Scott there!” And I love the American Red Cross visor you’re wearing as a chef’s hat like your Cookin’ Hard video. Your commitment to such minor details for continuity never ceases to amaze me.
Wonder if Scott showing up with an Elite Controller at a cook-off might also be a continuation of the end joke of "Personal Trainer: Cooking" where he blames the controller for his meal turning bad.
Seeing how big Scott's collection had gotten and how many cool and interesting things are in it fills me with a sense of awe and dread knowing how much abuse those things are going to be subjected to.
The Wii U pro controller stick layout was absolutely perfect for Hyrule warriors, which was basically half of my playtime on the entire system, so I absolutely loved it.
Exactly. There are games for which top sticks are absolutely perfect. I have a controller with symmetrical top sticks, but it's a Switch Pro controller, and a pair of JoyCons like that. For some games, it's just better.
Wii U Pro controller is the GOAT. All it needed was analog triggers and maybe motion controls. I still use it over my switch controller to this day. You can buy a universal Bluetooth adapter and use it on most systems.
29:30 This is a feature of the elite 2 controller, but its even better because you can leave the cable attached to the case and place the controller in the case to rest & charge.
Actually, that's more so the opposite of insane. $230 AUD = $146 USD, which is even a bit cheaper than the $150 the controller went for in the US itself. The Switch Lite is $200, so $146 seems about right for how much a used one would generally cost. I don't want to be rude here, but it really seems like you weren't aware that Australian and United States dollars aren't the same value, something I've seen people not know a couple dozen times in RU-vid comments sections alone. 😑
I like how he's started saying "Hey all, Scott here" at the end of the videos, so the "every scott the woz video but all the hey all scott heres play at the same time" videos are all out of whack
There’s also when you have to take your finger off the trigger to hit the bumper. I’ve got a lot of use out of back paddles and make sure every controller I use has them. As for battery, AAs tend to last me several days, while a rechargeable battery gets used up way sooner. But they do make long lasting third party rechargeable batteries, which solve the issue. Modular batteries is a very important feature for me, because it gives me freedom of choice. Another thing about AAs is that when it runs out you can just quickly pop in a new set, while with a rechargeable battery you have to take the time to charge it.
It has its perks but it catches me off guard in like ToTK when I have to lift up the controller from my lap and get it orientated. Like geez Nintendo, let me play video games snuggled up in bed
There's a mexican saying that goes: "el muerto al pozo, y el vivo al gozo", which is a rhyme that says something along the lines of: "the dead to the grave as the living to enjoyment", meaning that life goes on after a loved one dies, and to keep enjoying it, as they won't be able to again.
Seriously though, the layout of the Wii U Pro Controller is my favorite. I love that the analog sticks are above the buttons, and I wish I could find another controller that did this.
we've gone from a video on controllers to one specifically on pro controllers, if Scott goes into any more detail... that L-button video is coming soon, I can feel it.
27:45 This controller seems neat, but I think it would be more fun if it had even more customizability, like relocating the D-pad or ABXY buttons, or easy button switching. A true modular controller just speaks out less for the pros and more for the engineering nerds who want something they can tinker with.
This is THE perfect time that Scott could have uploaded "Pro Controllers - Scott The Woz"! I can't think of any other Friday night that could have been better to upload such a video!
That feeling when a random Scott video is better made than a modern AAA movie. Scott's rise in YT marked the ascent of Pro YT video movement. Still an exclusive club of less than 5 YT creators.
