That man in the thumbnail, Jacob Miller was anything but a coward. He was wounded in the head at Chickamauga. Behind enemy lines, he slowly made his way to his own field hospital with directions given by a sympathetic rebel. The hospital being at risk of capture he then walked with his eyes swollen so badly he had to lift his one eyelid to see every so often making it to Chattanooga. After a few days there, he managed with four other wounded to walk 60 miles in four days to the train to get to another hospital. Losing sight in his left eye he passed in 1927 back in Indiana.

Personally I think they treat people who are accused of cowardice to roughly. Anybody can be overcome by fear. The fact that they still volunteered and fought means they’re not cowards. Easy to be critical of people that are accused of cowardice. When the accusers are not the one out fighting.

Of all the civil war stuff I've seen, I've never really thought about this. Haven't really seen it either, but my knowledge is not vast. Lol. It's one of those things where you don't really wanna know it all. Great video.

Within 10 miles of home - apply for 2 days leave, sign out a horse, be back on time. Some of these are more like todays Article 15 punishments - wearing a ball and chain for a time, wearing a barrel around base, marching around the base carrying a saddle. More for personal humiliation but no harm done except getting laughed at. They won't do it again. Log PT! YAY!!! said no one ever...

Hey David, thanks for the question. We gathered information from official sources as well as original drawn images from that time, so that's mostly truth.

my granddad was a ww1 veteran, and he moved to Washington DC during economic collapse of the economy, in what is now Known as the Great Depression, … and he was in the bonus Army, attempting to get his bonus money from being a volunteer, and being gassed in the trenches, mustard, and onion gas, plus he got tuberculosis from being in the Marne, & what they called the huge battles of the trench that kept being attacked alternating between attacks they made, … losing over 100,000 men in a single day , … he got a job at the Whitehouse as a greenskeeper, raised 6 boys, & 2 daughters, in DC, … he liked his booze, … died in 1947, my mom, went to SanDiego, worked as a switchboard telephone operator, met my dad, then pregnant with me, moved in with my dad’s parents, had me, (now I’ve been in the literal saddle for 70 years, no joke), … served 3 years 1 month, 3 days, left the military with 2 honorable discharges, … 😂, came home, drove the big rigs for roughly 15, out of 20 years, … hauled pretty much anything on a flatbed and/or stretch, trailer, became an automotive machinist turning out 6 engines a week, … in a weeks time, … interior/exterior painter, drywaller, doing patch/paint mud, sand, to finish, general contractor, blew out the lumbar in my lower back, retired because of being injured on the job, … retired to northeast Alabama, and am still somewhat active, …
