The WWF / WWE Attitude Era is seen by many as the pinnacle of pro wrestling. Stars such as Steve Austin, The Rock, Mankind and D-Generation X flourished during this time period and the WWF produced some memorable matches and moments when they shifted their focus in terms of television content and target demographics. Some moments of the Attitude Era, however, don't hold up so well and some Attitude Era pay per view events aren't as good as what you may remember.
This video looks at the worst rated WWF Attitude PPVs in history. Events covered include the 2000 King of the Ring, WrestleMania XV, Fully Loaded 1998 and more.

Honestly, Over the Edge 1999 didn't even come to mind when I saw this video's title... and I think that's mainly because I'd prefer to NOT think of that event, due to what happened. So when I got to #1 & saw Over the Edge I thought "Oh, yeah, of course it'd be that", simply due to the fact that I kind of instinctively block its existence out of my mind, unless I have to think about it.

Same as you, I watched Over the Edge 1999 live and I felt sick, even though you never saw the incident. Just the sombre nature, the visible shock from the talent, and the way J.R. told us he passed away (God bless J.R., he was so professional and humane) just made me feel terrible. OTE '99. One of the handful of times I got to spend with one of my older brothers before he passed. We got high as a kite and were really into the show. The stuff with Owen happened and we found ourselves putting the party aside and calling our siblings and parents to let them know we loved them so much. I lost him 2 years later to a heart attack and my oldest brother 3 weeks later to the same. Point: its cliché but no less true... Remind the ones you love EXACTLY how much you love them. I remember Over the Edge 99 like it was yesterday - when I was talking to people in my school the next day some thought the Owen incident was part of the storyline. I wonder how Reliving the War will cover the Owen memorial WCW Nitro match between Bret and Benoit - that could end up having its own dedicated video.

Inspired by your channel I did start doing a rewatch of the wrestling years, from 1996 up until 2000 now. Over the Edge was the PPV that made stop for a while, having gained so much more appreciation for Owen since. Armageddon 99, and the angle around Triple H and Stephanie before that was a slog.

I knew over the edge would be #1. I too was watching the PPV, I almost got tickets since I lived not too far but I had to work at the video store that night. I was checking out a few customers as the incident happened. I was glued to the TV and so was the few people in line as wrestling was pretty big in our small town. We were in awe. The RAW after was the saddest RAW Ive ever watched next to eddies tribute (that may have been smackdown...I think they did both shows but its the one chris just breaks)

I didn't expect Over the Edge at #1 because I thought it would be excluded. While WWE deserves to be ass blasted for continuing the show, the talent that took part does not. It's a bit tasteless both to Owen's memory and the talent that CageMatch didn't remove ratings on this one.

It was a ppv, why should it be excluded? Why is it tasteless to include? It was the worst ppv in wrestling history, and maybe the worst day in wrestling history. It’s tasteless the ppv continued after the tragedy. Saying it’s tasteless to have as the worst ppv because it’s disrespectful to the wrestlers is crazy.

The '99 Royal Rumble shoulda been listed. In regards to Over the Edge '99, I saw an interview with Debra where she said she wouldn't have continued the show, but she's not the one running the multi-billion dollar company. I kinda agree with her. It's easy to say what you would or wouldn't have done, when you're not in the position to choose.

I feel Vince thought of it more as an inconvenience or had a vendetta for summerslam 97. I didn't see Over the Edge live. I was hanging out with friends. I remember thinking to myself that I was missing it and was wondering what was happening. I got home in time for the replay of the broadcast that always started immediately after the live show ended. I didn't rent it but I listen on the PPV channel to what was happening but the picture would be scrambled. So I listened as I played video games. He would have already passed away by this time but I was still oblivious. I remember being shocked when I eventually found out 3 hours later than most wrestling fans. Owen Hart was my favorite. Hard to believe that was 24 and a half years ago.
