The racing version of the zis-112 is genius because when the engine inevitably gave out it would take up an entire straight, ending the race making everyone equal as intended by way of DNF

@@JeffreyWilliams-dr7qe The thing that has always amazed me is how they could come up with some of the most ingenious creations but on the whole completely fail. They developed a part for jet aircraft ejection seats that protect pilots from the air. This is something that our American aircraft do not have. Because of that some pilots who ejected at high speed have been nearly torn to pieces. Then there is the buran. They did build it using stolen data. Still they were able to include some smart upgrades. The most amazing was its ability to fly and land autonomously. Of course it only flew once and then abandoned due to a lack of funding and other issues. It is sad that the brilliant people were held down or worse and not allowed to flourish.

The TU-144 may have been more successful and at least may have flown a couple of times without failures and crashes if 'they' copied it from Concorde more accurately. Looking at Soviet concept cars are interesting, as they provide a glimpse into an alternate "perfect communist car industry" of what could've been done with less tight restrictions, although a few good looking commie sports cars, coupes, and cabriolets did roll off the assembly lines. However, the ZiS/ZiL 112 wasnt actually based on the GM Lesabre, but actually the Studebaker Manta Ray concept. Look it up.

You saying that the USSR copied many designs is completely true, however it was not just cars, anything that was designed and built by the free world was copied, and when Russia collapsed, maybe even before that, the Chinese took over the mantle of being the world’s worst copycat nation, and they were a little bit more successful but still not very good at it, even reverse engineering things don’t work out so well. @ 5:46 you sound disappointed that the “vehicles” were “preserved” personally I think they did themselves, and everyone else, a favour, they would not even be interesting as museum displays.
@jakekaywell5972
@jakekaywell5972 13 дней назад
Not true and filled with the usual pro-Western smarminess. While the USSR did indeed aquire many foreign designs, these were usually licensed-built instead of reverse-engineered. Two notable examples of this are the Italian FIAT 124 sedan remade and improved as the VAZ 2101 and the French Lip R26 watch movement remade and improved as the ZiM 2602. Both done with the knowing, willing assistance of FIAT and Lip respectively. In addition, plenty of original designs also existed, completely developed within the Soviet Union. Examples include the Poljot 2209, Slava 2414, GAZ M20 "Pobeda", and Moskvitch 412. The West was never at any point during the Cold War the "free world", as more rights were enshrined in the USSR and the larger Warsaw Pact earlier and more frequently. For example, the GDR completely decriminalized homosexuality in 1951 and even had the first officially-sanctioned, state-operated gay bar. Lastly, it is a real shame the ZiS 112 was never preserved, as it is a piece from the past that actually got used unlike its American counterpart.

Good info and original pictures, BUT this video is a MESS... with so many cuts trying to be funny, that is VERY tired, slow and cumbersome to watch. So much cuts are too distracting when the viewer is trying to follow the main idea. Sorry, but no like this time. It seems like a video made by a toddler. (I stopped to watch it after 8 painful minutes).

@@tablesizeproductions4360 If you accept a little suggestion: With a cut every 2 minutes to support a good joke or funny idea regarding the main theme, could be enough. Otherwise the transmitted idea is a bad clown trying to mix teen jokes, with good information about an interesting idea, and trying really hard to be funny without success. Cheers.
