Back in the 90s my friend actually had a demo of this game with the elevator tentacle section. I've always been wondering what game the demo was from and I guess now I finally know.

I had this game as a kid, and yeah, the "combat" sequences are utterly abysmal and have some of the worst controls I've ever experienced in a video game. However, I can't help but be fond of this game, as most Spider-Man video games at the time lacked the sort of immersive story elements that this game had. I played through this game multiple times, keeping track of the choices I made to see different outcomes. I had a blast as a wide-eyed twelve-year old getting to influence my favorite superhero's decisions to this degree. And yeah, Chameleon-as-corpse-MJ freaked me out too and I'd always dread doing that scene every time. This game also impressed on me that the Shocker was cool and misunderstood, and to this day I'm annoyed whenever he's treated as the punchline of a joke in any fictional appearances. Hell, the Hobgoblin gets a less impressive showing here, and the Macendale Hobgoblin is a much bigger loser than Shocker ever will be.

Wow, someone else who's as obsessed with old Spidey games as I am! You're my kind of guy. I recently got hold of the PSP version of Spider-Man 2 and was surprised to find out that it's pretty much entirely made of models, assets, and even songs from the console versions of the Spider-Man 1 game. It feels like a weird, alternate-universe sequel. (also unrelated but I dig your nails)

You want obscure. I got those Italian only Spider-Man point and click video games. They weren't translated so I struggled.

There was a Spider-Man CD Rom game that was sort of like an animation studio where you can create your own cartoon using assets/animations provided by the game. I thought that’s where you were going. I would have lost it. I had so much fun with that program and it’s obscure as hell.

I don't know, that venom Factor game I only found out about it today but it's based off of a book and there's some leaked cutscene and that's about all anyone knows about it but they cut same looks pretty cool. Got to love how 1997 CGI Spider-Man has webs on his costume but the PS1 Spider-Man does not

Ever since I first found out about this game in Matt McMuscles channel, I was confused already at a point-and-click Spider-Man game. This is an action superhero, the opposite of what point-and-click stands for lol (I know Telltale did some good action, but you guys know what I mean, turning Spider-Man into a FPS is asking for the player to suffer visually, mentally and physically), and what a surprise, the game works as well as using a spoon to mow a lawn, you can make it eventually, but the hassle won't be worth it. I'll give one very positive point though. It legit gives you the option of different endings and pathways, I mean no other game actually allows you to choose between Peter Parker or Spider-Man. That's great, it actually gives a sense of reality around Spider-Man, where you will struggle with these supervillains, threatening you at every corner, making your life as a superhero very difficult, but whenever you want to just take a break, that could cost you and it raises your awareness over your responsabilities. Not to mention how scary it is to be just a civilian. You're powerless and can literally be killed at any moment by some asshole in a ridiculous tight costume. That's some real misery right there. If a game like this was completely remade for next gen by top of the level professionals with top of the business skills, it could actually be fantastic.

Awesome video! I was almost expecting this to be about the PC version of Spider-Man 2. It's just awful and there was no inclination on the box that it wasn't the beloved, open world Spider-Man 2 that most people think of. I bet most people have no idea that version existed.

That car crash scene was superb! I laughted so hard.....

Awesome video, as expected! I like that you called yourself out for going overboard with the clickbaity title. 😀 I'm actually pretty bummed The Venom Factor never happened. I guess you didn't know this (I'm frankly surprised! 😀), but The Venom Factor was actually kind of a landmark superhero novel of the mid-'90s. I mean, it was hardcover and everything -- even came with a trading card! I actually stumbled upon some concept art for the game (maybe key art?) on, of all things, a Russian site devoted to Marvel games -- no idea where they got it from. Oh, and there's no way this was inspired by Grim Fandango, by the way -- it came out a year earlier! For all we know, Tim Shafer took a look at The Sinister Six and was like, "YES!!! This is the inspiration I need!"

Ooooh boy, someone finally made a proper video about this game! This is such an obscure little title that I'm surprised anyone has even heard of it, much less made an entire review about it. Hell, the only reason I know about it in the first place is because I didn't have a Playstation as a kid and kept nagging at my dad to get me a Spider-Man game. I will say I agree with you for the most part, especially when it comes to the god-awful action sequences and the Hobgoblin/Vulture stage IN PARTICULAR. Seriously, that one is so spectacularly frustrating I straight up just went back and picked an easier story decision any time I played it, just so I could avoid that stage. Other than some of the action parts though, I will say that I disagree that this is the worst Spider-Man game ever, or even that it's a bad game at all. (That being said, take what I say with a grain of salt since I know I'm wearing rose-tinted nostalgia goggles). I think just mixing Spider-Man with an adventure point-and-click type puzzle game with branching storylines was such a cool concept in itself, and if you'd cut out the action sequences the rest is actually pretty good. One thing I really liked is that most - if not all - puzzle stages had two or more solutions that differed depending on your chosen difficulty level, where solutions could change drastically. (An example would be the bus scene you mentioned in the video where Peter tries to remove webbing from the door. On easier puzzle levels you can instead complete it by pouring sugar in the gas tank to prevent the fuel gauge from dropping, or - if I recall correctly - stuff a washcloth in the exhaust pipe). I also really liked the interactions between Peter and the irate movie director at the beginning (who turns out to be Chameleon in disguise), both of them chewing each other out while unaware that their alter-egos are mortal enemies. Sorry, I'm ranting, I suppose this is just a game that's close to my heart despite all its flaws. You can't argue that the intro song with that guy singing "SPIDER-MAAEEEEN" isn't amazing though.

I don’t think I ever really knew about this game. If so I only caught onto it vaguely.

4:10: It's like someone looked at the CDI Zelda games and went "Let's not do _anything_ they did when we animate our cutscenes." And that (presumed) philosophy serves them well; I can see a lot of areas where this game is artistically superior to them. But it's also very stiff; if I was taking this seriously, I'd wonder if they traded color palette size for how much space didn't have to be a single jpg.

I still have this CD-Rom! I haven't been able to get it to run in years, though. Every now and then, I try to figure out how to run it in the Windows 95 mode. Or something.

Not even that far into the video yet but I must say I love the art of this game. Very strong MTV Spider-Man + Comics Spider-Man vibes and I'm digging it.

I think that for 1996 to make a game about Spiderman with an emphasis on dialogue and the choice between Peter Parker or Spiderman was a very ambitious idea, to be honest I like the way the characters are animated and the cut scenes are decent for 1996, the fact that this whole game is called the worst Spider game because of the mechanics and control in the moments where you have to dodge or shoot bombs, it should be noted the important fact that this is an Adventure Quest game built on dialogues and decisions, the rest should be secondary. I think the game is underrated in some way.
