@@kingyouki5904 He said early. As in the early concept designs. Regardless, it's all the more reason to be thankful that Lucas wasn't given free reign earlier on frankly.
mattwo7 in the old star war canon now legends the first lightsabers used by the Jedi and Sith had power cable attached to a power pack on the individuals belt I and I’m pretty sure drake we’re referring to those and not early movie designs
*Superhero film adapts something weird from the comics* "Don't worry guys it's accurate to the comics!" Comics pretty much did everything so I don't know if "comics- accurate" has any real weight anymore
@@mrboerger1620 But, Manga and Comics have their own distinct type of weird. Comics have the “Wait, he can do that?!” type of weird, and Manga has the “What the fuck did I just lay eyes upon” type of weird. I do get what you’re saying, however.
Wrong. What got rid of the super-mullet was Supes marriage to Lois. There is a panel in the wedding issue were Clark says that he cut his hair for this important day, and that happened a few months before the transformation into electric blue happened.
@@megathot3734 When Banner was in control of a Hulk form. I think it's one of the weakest Hulks and it's the one used in the Amalgam fight between Supes and Hulk.
I could see superman wearing power armor/ armored suit when fighting villains such as parasyte or metallo's kryotonite powers, also funnily enough in star wars lore the first lightsaber had a external battery pack with a cable connected to the sword so it's kinda funny that one of superman's costume would use a similar concept.
Sean McGee I remember seeing this power armor Superman at Superman the escape at six flags magic mountain, when I was a kid. Also, I liked this kind of suit.
I think my least favorite was the Power Armor one. The fact that it’s just “Superman’s costume, but as power armor” seems like a wasted opportunity. The best costume redesigns, in my opinion, should have some significance outside of just being to change. Spider-Man’s Symbiote suit has come to mean a darker, less responsible Spider-Man, and there was an entire game where that costume represented a different kind of Spider-Man! That, in my opinion, is the best kind of costume change.
I actually really like the look of the black and silver suit, just without the weird neck cut. Simplicity in costume design is something I personally appreciate. Good video :D
Can't beat the classic Superman costume. Oh, and Superman Red and Superman Blue was a famous Silver Age "Imaginary story", so that may be where the idea came from.
to be fair, i can understand superman needing armor if he somehow has lost access to his powers or is coming into contact with kryptonite. like, as a backup plan, you know?
Black suit was cool. The fight boots were from some random Team Luther guy and the guns lasted like 30 seconds before he lost them. Respect your opinion, though.
The black costume makes it look like they’re copying Spider-Man’s symbiote costume during Secret Wars. (Before you attack me, the Symbiote costume came out in the 80s while Supes black costume came out in the 90s)
Same for me with the shirt and jeans suit, the first time I saw it I really disliked it but after reading Morrison’s Action Comics run I’m fine with it.
Dan Jurgens is a good Superman writer but he had the misfortune of working on Supes during the nineties where everything had to be ''cool'' and ''extreme''.
I loved the "Space Samson" look he had at the end of the Exile storyline. He had a loincloth and his cape as a Samson robe. Plus a full, thick beard. The 90s were so perfect there was never any need to ever have other decades!
1:15 Lex Luthor takes off his robot hand to punch Superman with his wrist stump. He took off his robot hand. To punch Superman. With his wrist stump. Why??
Like, in what situation is it better to punch anything with your wrist stump rather than a robot hand? I get that Supes got donked with red kryptonite but wouldn't it still be better to punch a human face with a robot hand than a wrist stump?
I remember really liking the Superman Red and Blue design as a kid, I think it holds up today. Also I've never seen that 'Metropolis' costume til today, and I actually really dig it. I think though that it needs to also signify some character change, like the two tone back could represent a duality, the larger crest could represent a bigger tie to his roots as a cryptonian, maybe he has an era appropriate appreciation for his 'status' that his powers afford him.
The T-shirt Superman era was a weird time for DC in general. It was around the same time when Jim Gordon shaved his moustache and hopped into a robot batsuit
Superman’s black costume during “Emperor Joker” was pretty cool. A black suit like the “Lois and Clark” one but with a cape, it made him look pretty badass.
I liked the motherbox costume as a story feature, showing Superman's fear of Doomsday, I'm just not keen on the look of it. And I've always loved the recovery suit when he came back, the silver detailing and all.
I think for the last one, if it were drawn in a different style with some smaller details added, it would look pretty great. But in that art style it looks kinda weird
I like superman blue, I think it captures the idea of superman having to almost take on a new perspective. "I have to do things differently now, I have to be a different hero...but still carry my ideals" this is what an electric superman would look like, you still get the iconic crest, you get the simple yet effective unitard, new streaks of white to help pop from all the dark blue
I like Minimalist design, so my favorites are the Erradicator during Reign of Supermen, Justice Lord Superman from Justice League cartoon and the one from Batman beyond.
During Superman's depowered phase of the New 52 I actually really liked the shirt and jeans look for it. It signified that not only was Clark close to the normal people, but Superman was as well. It gave me vibes of the "Champion of the Oppressed" Superman from the golden age. Maybe it was more just because I didn't like the Jim Lee New 52 Superman design all that much.
@@christiancrusader9374 I kind of like it with Jean Grey (with the pony tail hole in the back), but that's probably because it's how I was introduced to the character.
I gotta throw a little bit of appreciation for the mother box over, sure it’s dated and cluttered, but it does have that kinda “Knight in shining Armor” vibe
They should just make the yellow of his chest field blue or black, and get rid of the red trunks again. Make the suit all dark blue, from neck to toe. Or a Black suit with red chest crest, and keep the red cape. Simple 2 color ICONIC outifit : it says Superman! Great video, yeah those suit variants are just too much crazy. Thanks and Peace
heavily agree removing the trunks was a natural and necessary evolution of the suit with the times, I think people are insane for wanting them back after the new 52 got rid of them
michael deering the new 52 only had Superman without the red trunks because of Flashpoint Superman wearing red trunks, and after Rebirth retconing Flashpoint by making Dr.Manhattan causing Flashpoint and not the Flash it made more sense to bring back the red trunks anyways.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr superheroes only wore trunks because strong men wore trunks, in the modern age there's no reference for why superheroes adopted wearing trunks so it doesn't make any sense except as a self-referential thing, so moving forward without is the correct move.
@@sscerbik except the suit has weird color balance without it. So just getting rid of it because you don't think it has a reference is sort of beside the point.
Imo, Superman just looks wrong without the red trunks. I actually got a good laugh out of that new Superman cartoon on Adult Swim when Ma Kent specifically added the red trunks to the original costume, because of how bad it looked without them.
Honestly, having New52 Clark go back to T-shirt and Jeans look felt like a blue collar original power set super man, with the story around his time being mostly depowered being some of the (arguably) best writing before his death.
Once while bored, I started playing with an image of Electric Superman Blue in MS Paint. I recolored all the white parts red and changed all the energy around him to yellow. It looked like crap due to my already limited artistic skills, but on some level it seemed that in the hands of a better artist, it would have been far better than the monchrome blue or red costume.
Only just finished reading Superman's Metropolis yesterday! Got Nosferatu and Blue Amazon to get through next. I Iiked the costume, but I agree on the two-tone remark. I don't see why they couldn't have kept the back completely blue. Surprised the Injustice costume isn't on this...
I wasn't aware that Nomura did a line of figures (I've only ever seen the Batman one). I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts and TWEWY fan and for me Nomura's style tends to walk the line between appealing and frustrating. For instance, I will never not hate Donald Duck's zipper hat but I really like his take on Goofy's outfit. I really don't like his superhero designs though as I feel his style is the antithesis of a good superhero outfit (especially DC heroes). Namely simple and striking. I pretty much agree with everything you said on the Superman figure and I can't stand the Batman one.
I kind of like the Superman Blue costume, but I agree with you that it isn't really a Superman costume. I liked it better when Livewire was given it a few issues before Flashpoint.
You forgot: the SINGULAR shoulder pad XD Which literally has no reason to be so prevalent in 90s as it was beyond Leifeld being randomly popular at the time.
Isn’t That The Same Outfit Jor-El Wore in The Pilot Episode of Superman:The Animated Series When he Put Kal-El in His Spaceship Before Krypton Blew up?
Please make a video about his top ten best designs! I’d love to see all the creative, or even simple but smart, ways artists have tried to redesign him and did it fairly well!
The suit he used to fight Doomsday a second time was useless. He doesn’t need all of that equipment. Superman has no use for weapons. He IS a weapon. Him using a sword or a gun is so out of character for him.
I thought the overall design of Superman Red and Blue's costume were done as perfectly as possible. I also liked the longer hair and the wider shoulder cut of the black suit. Everyone knew this was all temporary anyway, and that Superman would again slip on the red Fruit of the Looms. I do wish they would be rid of the red undies though. It's got to the point where no matter how we call it 'classic', it's now outdated.
The black post-death of Superman one, I've always liked. I never really like Supes too much, and his unchanged costume pissed me off. I was glad he died, and I knew DC was gonna renege on it, but I was happy he came back as a "different" Superman, to piss of fans. I don't understand superhero costumes, with all the color, and the minimalistic black makes way more sense. Oh and that Metropolis thing looks awesome. Ill have to check it out.
The Kandor suit is the only alternative suit I've ever liked. Course, I consider suits like Kingdom Come to be so similar they don't count, so that's how you know I'm weird lol
The best superheroes all seem to be something like a lightning in a bottle. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, all have perfect costumes. For years they try to make new costumes, some were attempts of permanent, but they never substitute the original.
