@@jockeyfield1954 Yeah, Gotham is a hellhole but by all accounts, it was worse before he showed up. It was full of corruption, the mob was allowed to roam free, murders and other horrible things happened regularly. But Batman changed that. Batman's goal is that no child should go through what he did ever again and he knows that he is on his to do that, the criminals hesitating to do things because he might be around is a clear sign of that. Tim Drake is in a constant state of "he will be the world's greatest detective someday". Due to the nature of comics Tim will probably never be classified as "the world's greatest", unless it's a story set in the future. I would argue that the crux of the prep time argue often overlooks the idea that Batman creates these contingency plans because he failed an initial first battle but survived, analyzed his weaknesses and sought to improve them. 1st thing they get wrong: he can beat superman. Seriously though. It was pointed out in a YT video that the point of Batman is not that he would win against people like Superman. The point is that he would most certainly lose against someone like Superman but he would make every effort that he could to beat him. Knowing that he would lose. I love Batman as much as many others do. But I love him because he is human. He bleeds, he'll lose sometimes, and then he comes back stronger. *+Kai Williams* It partially depends on which version of Superman and/or Batman we're referring to in the given scenario. Different variables will inevitably change the equation. Ex- There are numerous ways many characters today in DC alone could defeat the original 1930's Superman who couldn't even fly yet. He wasn't a quarter as OP as he is now. Likewise, Batman wasn't nearly as formidable, intelligent, or prep-heavy in his debut. No character to my knowledge exists that hasn't been changed or reinterpreted at least once. My advice: Just let it go and let people think what they want. They will anyway regardless of who's "right". I learned that lesson the hard way before giving up on this debate years ago. Ultimately, it's a pointless pursuit in terms of trying to settle on an absolute consensus. The fact is, there are NO absolutes in fiction except those we as creators set for ourselves.
@arcanefury3666
@arcanefury3666 5 лет назад
I don't know about that. All Batman's victories against Superman are kind of based on the fact that Superman doesn't want to kill him or Superman not being in the right mental state to fight Batman. Like during the Dark Knight Returns story. Superman could've just flown Batman to space or flown straight to the Batcave and taken him out there or during Endgame, Jokerized Superman could've crushed Batman's skull, dropped him, or burned a whole into his brain but decided to toy with him for a bit. We've never really seen a pure fight between the two aside from injustice or one of those first encounter team up fights. I think Batman still has a pretty good chance though. After all, Superman is like a brick wall. He doesn't get in your way unless your way is to break him or what he's protecting. Batman is like a drill. While a drill can be broken and fail with the right guidance and precision it can do many things

I think it was said in one of the comics that Lex worked out Clarke Kent was Superman , but his ego wouldn't let him accept the idea of the most powerful man working a day job, so he couldn't let himself admit it. I think he built a computer to work out who Superman was or some such. Personally, I always liked the idea that all the villains know who Superman is, they just won't say anything as making sure Clark has to keep a job and his life going is the only chance they have a few hours free each day to commit crime.

It should be noted that in most continuities, it's not that Batman IS a loner, but that he STARTS as a loner... big difference. Also, the "Batman can't be happy" thing is more about the burden he refuses to let go, rather than the happy moments. Even people with depression can have moments of happiness. I feel like some of the things people are saying are simplifications or meant in a specific context (sometimes to a certain time periods in Batman's life). And if you notice, MOST TIMES Batman is noted to be able to do or solve everything, it's in some sort of parody or comedy that isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Cool video, but I have to disagree on one part. In Endgame, he did die in the cave with the joker. They were later reanimated by the dionesium that was spilled all over the cave, but that took quite some time to, not only get to them, but to also heal their bodies. Alfred mentions it to Superman in #43 while showing him Bruce's brain scan and telling him the brain pattern is different, since the dionesium rebuild a new brain but didn't do an exact copy of his old one, hence his memory loss. So yeah it wasn't long, but he technically was dead for at least a few days before being brought back

I thought that she was created to replace Batwoman. In my research, Batwoman was a love interest for Batman and because she wasn't good enough for audiences, they scrapped her. You technically got the facts right, but they're a little bit jumbled up. The original Batgirl, Betty Kane, was added in _addition_ to the original Batwoman, Kathy Kane, so Robin could have a love interest too in the 1950's. Like Drake said, the Batgirl we know today, Barbara Gordon, was created in the TV show in the 1960's and that's who replaced the original Batwoman and Batgirl (until they were brought back later, of course).

I researched that too, but I did not wanna make the comment super long. But yeah, the OG Batgirl was Betty Kane. That basically corroborates it because Batman and Robin were accused of being gay, but charges were dropped when they got love interests. Then the 1960's-- yep, we know the rest. Those times were crazy as heck. Allegations of characters being gay... then writers getting charged for that... yet I thought the world made comics controversial.

I always think that Batman is the "broken unhappy loner" for like the first 3 years of his tenure. It's when he's the youngest, most aggressive, and most green at the vigilante gig. This all changes and by extension his emotional state changes, when Dick Grayson becomes Robin. He has his ups and downs (Dick leaving, Jason arriving, Jason dying) but it mostly gets better especially after Tim Drake. It's only after he retires that it can go one of three ways - that being the DKR/BvS gruff loner, Batman Beyond gruff old timer, or the Dark Knight Rises happily retired with Catwoman.

In all honesty, as much fun as it is to say Batman can win any fight, he can’t. That’s what makes him interesting. He’s not the best fighter, or the most intelligent. What makes him interesting is that he’s a mix of all of these things. What makes him awesome is the fact that he’ll go against literal gods, knowing full well they could eradicate him off the face of the Earth. Like Kevin Conroy’s Batman said when told he didn’t have any special powers, “oh I have one. I never give up.” What some people fail to realize when Batman fights Superman is this: he knows he can’t win head on. Like he says in the Hush storyline, “If Clark wanted to, he could use his superspeed and squish me into the cement.” He knew that even though he was under Poison Ivy’s control, Clark was holding back. That fight is more Batman and Superman vs Ivy’s control than anything else. Another fight that people like to point to is the Dark Knight Returns. The same thing applies here. Superman is severely hindered in this fight. He is already weak from a nuclear exploding right on top of him, he hasn’t been powered by the suns rays in days, and is trying very hard not to kill his old friend. Bruce, on the other hand, has spent years waiting for this moment. He already had synthetic Kryptonite on standby. He set up missiles in Crime Alley, where they had scheduled to fight, and has multiple weapons ready for use. And yet, he still knows he can’t win a head-on assault against Superman. Even with all of that, Superman would still annihilate him. His goal isn’t to beat him in a fight. His goal is to stall until the pill he took stops his heart, thus faking his death and escaping the government. Bruce starts the fight by hitting Clark with missiles. Then, he hits him with the Batmobile/Bat-tank. When Clark takes that out, Bruce pulls out sonic gun that actually makes Superman bleed. Then he frys his brain with the entirety of Gotham’s City’s power supply, also powering his battle suit. He hits him with a solid punch in that iconic panel. Then, immediately after that, Superman catches his next punch, grabs Bruce’s mask, and shoves him, tearing his mask off. The two start bashing each other. Superman could easily blow a hole in Batman’s exposed head, but he doesn’t. Bruce knows he won’t. Clark’s fighting to incapacitate him, not kill him. Even so, he crushes Bruce’s wrist and breaks three of his ribs. However, Bruce notices that Clark did actually break a sweat. But Bruce still isn’t done. He throws some acid in Clark’s face, and tosses an explosive. He then says that he’s finally gotten Clark angry, and that it’s now or never. That’s when the rest of his plan comes into play. All of the fight was a stall to get Oliver Queen into position to shoot Superman with the Kryptonite arrow. Note that Superman still manages to catch the arrow. Then the Kryptonite affects him. Bruce bashes him around a little, says his line about being the one man who beat him, then fakes his heart attack. What makes this fight great isn’t Batman beating up Superman. He still nearly lost the fight. What makes it great is the emotion behind he fight. The two of them were friends, but they went separate ways when the government decided that Superheroes needed to either go away or serve the government. Batman knew he couldn’t really beat Clark in a fistfight. Superman wasn’t even at full strength here, and he still could’ve crushed Batman if he really wanted to. But Batman knows that Clark doesn’t want to, and he uses that to his advantage. That’s what makes Batman a great hero. He doesn’t always win, but he never gives in.

But it pains me a lot of people these days love Batman because of his name, not because of who he is, and I have some misconceptions about him. 1. Batman has to be a a brutal killer. No, if you make Batman a bully, he will be no different from the criminals he fights. He isn't. He stands for justice, not for revenge. 2. In order to be a Batman fan, you have to make fun of Superman. Maybe I'm not a fan of Superman, but I have always held a deep, sincere respect for him. 3. Batman is insane. The worst misconception ever. He suffered a big trauma, yes, but he controlled his pain and used it to strike fear into the hearts of criminals and help others in the guise of a bat.

My personal take on how Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian are counted as Bruce's sons: they all are. Damian is by blood and the only one that can't really be questioned too much, Jason and Tim are by law/adoption, and Dick is in spirit and maybe also by law. I'm not sure how exactly I want it to fall with Bruce adopting Dick since I haven't read the comics. I've read many different fanfictions with good explanations for why Bruce did or didn't adopt him in the story. I like the idea that Bruce isn't trying to replace Dick's father which is often why Dick isn't adopted, but some will also have them talking about it after Jason is adopted (I think they have it happen before Jason's death or else Jason doesn't die in it) and have Bruce ask about if Dick wants to be fully adopted. To me, it would depend on how it's written, if it's respectful with how/why Bruce goes with adoption then I'm good, but if it's not going to be respectful, then I think stick to Dick as Bruce's ward. Even if Dick, Jason, and Tim are adopted, it doesn't have to mean that they gave up their last names. Yes, most people probably do have their names changed with adoption, but the boys seem to be old enough that they might choose to keep their last names. This is just based off the picture you used while saying that it's unclear what standing the boys have since even if Dick and Tim were adopted, they could be going by their birth names still, so that's how they were recognized.

Yes it is very much so true a lot of main characters go through the loop of losing gathering themselves, preparing and then winning however Batman is very different his character embodies the idea of being prepared more so than any other. The concept of Batman preparing and superman preparing are very different. He almost never wins fights on pure brute force there is ALWAYS some underlying level of strategy, trickery or skill involved. No character does it quite the same.

The Batman can't be happy thing is freaking ridiculous and I'd even argue that the Batman Beyond future where Bruce is "alone" was less about him actually being alone and more him having a falling out with the Bat Family and just retreating away from all of his friends. In the Justice League future episode, Superman immediately hears him through Terry's coms and lets him know that its good to see him back at the job. Its obvious from that scene that yeah Clark missed him, but respected his pain enough not to try forcing the issue. I can imagine that being the case for most of Bruce's friends. They know him and know that he has to work through things in his own time.

As far as I have read and seen so far, Lex and Batman are pretty much on par when it comes to intelligence. When Batman was allegedly dead he was about to say that he is currently the most intelligent human there is. But first he asked a JL member to make sure Batman was dead since Batman could kinda be more intelligent. But again that always depends on the writer and to be fair both characters have probably not fully used all their potential so it's hard to say. Batman outsmarted Lex very often and Lex outsmarted Batman as well. Pretty much the same level I'd say.

About the happiness thing, it isn't that he's unable to be happy, it's that people who suffer from serious PTSD as Batman evidently does, can retroactively erase the idea of happiness, it feels all consuming and it felt like the idea of happiness never really happened. It comes in episodes and waves

I just realized the symbolism (Whether intentional or not) in Batman not being able to die. Batman symbolizes hope, we all know that, but the fact that Batman cannot die also means that hope cannot die. That's really cool.

He's not some traumatized little kid who turned into a raging lunatic who murks people every chance he gets. He's a man who used his childhood trauma to grow and become what he thought was a better person, he became a polymath (look it up it's interesting). That is what makes him unique, his strength comes from his wide array of knowledge and skills, and his motive is to protect other from the same trauma he experienced.

Whenever anyone says Batman can’t be happy to be effective I want to personally read them A Lonely Place Of Dying myself. The whole point of that story line is that if Bruce doesn’t have that light that a Robin brings, he could easily lose himself to the darkness. He’s what we like to call complex. Bruce doesn’t have to be all smiles, but he can’t be your edgy Dark Knight either. Bruce Wayne is about finding the balance between dark and light and utilizing it.

Misconception: Batman kills people Reality: Batman refuses to kill people,the killing part is only in live action movies

Why doesn't Batman kill The Joker? Sometimes you have to kill the villain and that one villain should've died along time ago and he also should've stayed dead. The Joker is a great character, but I think we can make good Batman stories without the Joker. I have read some good stories that don't include The Joker, like Batman Dead White.

batmanfanforever08 unless it's been retconned there are actually 3 Jokers existing at the same time. That being said, I think it's been stated somewhere that Batman doesn't kill Joker because Joker wants Batman to kill him, mostly to prove a point. That point being that he and Batman are essentially the same person or as Joker has said on occasion "You're just one bad day away from being me" or something to that effect anyways, and if Batman kills him it'll prove that Batman is no better than Joker, if that makes any sense. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken or whatever.
@JeremyWS
@JeremyWS 5 лет назад
Simple solution to that problem, let someone else kill The Joker.
@lordofninjas1
@lordofninjas1 5 лет назад
batmanfanforever08 easier said than done. Most of the Batfamily, and to a certain extent most of the DC universe, tend to follow Batman's no killing rule (there are exceptions of course), Joker is pretty tricky and I believe has faked his death on a few occasions, among other things. Basically, I think it's gotten to the point where Joker can't die unless he wants to, that's not to say he's immortal or anything, simply that he's just so tricky and chaotic and everything that he can do that.

I'm going to be honest, the whole "He'll become the Joker if he kills the Joker" line of thinking is ridiculously shallow and sounds like a bad line from a CW soap opera. People are a lot more complex than that and the whole thing is just reductionist. I don't think that mainline Bruce Wayne should be written to kill the Joker, however. But that's because it's a core part of the character to never kill. Having Batman have to deal with the consequences of his moral code after not killing villains is a lot more interesting than "I if kill the bad guy that makes me the bad guy" elementary school logic.

I just want a few good Batman comics and storylines that don't include the Joker, is that so much to ask for? I get tired of the Joker sometimes. He's a great character, but he's oversaturated. We need to focus on other villains for awhile, like Calendar Man or Condiment King or Scarecrow or anyone else but the Joker.

DC had released collections of comics from that time period usually titled something along the lines of (Superhero Name) The (Name) Age. So, if you want Batman you'd look for Batman: The Golden Age. Should be on Amazon or something.

Batman is in my top five favorite heroes but his media has a tendency to elicit groans of exasperation from me. Beceause he's a great character whos fan boys have a horrible habit of utterly ruining him when they get a chance to write for him.

I think it is a little unfair to say that King gets everything wrong. While his run isnt perfect (neither was snyder's though), he writes a batman with an unwaivering will and one that is very human.

I have found the Batman does kill, and does use guns , but refuses to kill with a gun. Seeing that action as cowardly to do for some one who doesn't need to. That's his rule. Great video, have an amazing day and God bless

I think Batman is one of the most powerful heroes not because of "prep time" or "intellect"... At least not simply that, it's competence, the ability to always choose the most reasonable option even if it's not obvious and always have the skill that would be needed, I would fully expect him to pull out a musical number he never thought he'd need to use just because he made sure he was prepared.
@Spartan322
@Spartan322 5 лет назад
tbh, some of these misconceptions aren't misconceptions, like Batman not using guns, under most conditions Batman does tend to avoid using a gun, a lot of the animated shows tend to overemphasizes this fact but from from what I can recall he doesn't like using a gun since at least the silver age of comics. And that's just one example.
