I had a friend that started a towing company and ended up doing almost nothing but high-end car dealership transfers. If you can find a niche and make yourself the go-to guy then you will be better off than the guy who runs himself ragged trying to do it all.
Great video mate. I run a towing company and do accidents, off road, etc, but I do not do repo's or private property tow aways. Like yourself, quite happy with the market I have. Keep it safe brother
What you do do is: Work Safe, treat customers and thier property with respect, and are reliable. Everyone goes home at night satisfied. The importnace of that seems to escape many people.
It's SWEET to be in a position to be able to support yourself with that business plan. Most small businesses struggle to get enough work to stay afloat and can't afford to be choosy about the jobs they'll take.👍 And no matter what you say about being the worst tow company, it is very clear that you care about your customers and always go the extra mile to do the right thing for them and also to prevent damage to their vehicles. Can't wait to see the snow machine in action!
you go out of business if you work for motor clubs. drove for 13 years in the Orlando area. motor clubs run you ragged and don't pay crap. When I was in Kissimee, Fl. They (AAA) $11.00 + mileage to the truck for a call You had to rely on 200 tire changes and jump starts a day just to float by. and when I had to pay a driver 25%. no money to be made and don't get me started on fuel cost....
So Casey i love your channel and your work. I'm 60 yrs old I used to have a small scrap business where I would go get cars people had given me. With that being said brother. I feel you are giving up to much information to these people on here who want nothing except watching you fail stop telling these people everything. Quit worrying about these dumbasses who care nothing about you. These people love making you upset and seeing you all flustered. Stay strong and ignore the trolls
I’ve never used Dollie’s,I appreciate you showing us .For what it’s worth,we don’t do roadside assistance,we only do police calls.I see why you have your nitch and do your best at that and seem to have a home life! That I admire.Be safe God bless and please keep posting
There is enough pie to go around to all the different aspects of towing. You know your market. It fits your lifestyle and your niche. I don't see anything wrong with that. Right on Brother! Speak the truth!
Why do people think they should tell you what jobs you should do? It’s your company. I’m impressed with how well you do your job and just enjoy watching you do it. Of course the scenery you show is also a big advantage. I’m in Pennsylvania so I never see what you see. Thanks for sharing and God Bless
Plus, how many towing companies take the time to stop and smell the roses when they are out on a job, you do. We enjoy the tours of your neck of the woods, a bonus.
first of all YOUR company, YOUR RU-vid channel and YOU decide what goes on up. Your 10% market niche is 100% awesome and definitely the reason I follow your channel. All the haters and experts clapping back at you; screw them. I am here for the AWESOME content. I love your explanations, I always learn something new and the views and side trips are always worth it! Keep up the awesome content!
Sounds to me that being selective actually works to your advantage, be it in towing or in dating, for that matter! :-) You don't end up with what (or who) doesn't feel good, and you can stay true to yourself by only doing that kind of work that keeps you motivated and interested. Sounds like a win win situation to me!
I enjoy the off-road part, but I have found that roadside assistance is a big part of what I do. I do it on my terms though. They call up and offer $25 for a jumpstart. I counteroffer, and they usually go with it. We have driven 150 miles to do a jumpstart 3 blocks from another company. Weird business.
I am totally agree with your " Casey Dolly Policy". Why take a risk that you shouldn't at the first place. Right.? Anyway, Happy Independent Day to all my Malaysian friends.
I had someone comment on my RU-vid channel about how horrible of a tow company I was for a video I uploaded it was no need and arguing back and forth I do what I do and I stay in my Lane you just said the same exact thing I respect it because I understand it 🙌🏿 keep it going and stick to your niche nobody's paying your bills but you
When I first started my tow company, I took any and all work with the exception of repossession work. If someone shoots at me, I'm shooting back, and it isn't worth the hassle. The second year in business, I dumped the auto clubs, as the only work I got from them was very late night, rainy nights, or cold weather hot shots, that their preferred companies didn't want to respond to for $14 (the price at the time). Plus it's difficult to keep drivers that earn 50% of the call for night time work. We didn't have rotations, but instead were assigned an area based on your yard location. The Police tow division would evaluate response times yearly and decide if another company was needed. Dealerships, and large tire-stores were the bread and butter work, but heavily discounted. The good thing about that work was they paid invoices weekly, so you weren't out your money very long. There were always Gypsy tow outfits looking to undercut you, but typically ended in a large damage claim that caused the customer ill will. Good you've found a niche market and are sticking to what works for you.
It’s a good thing you dolly stuff like this. I’ve been running auto loader for awhile now and throw dollies on a lot of stuff. These are required to be dollied. Even though it says it’s in “2wd” Toyota has an auto 4x4 setup that acts almost like all time AWD. Almost all Toyotas that are “4WD” need to be dollied!
Worst company eh? Picks it up on the primary drive axle to get it off the ground Dollies the front end cause he doesn't know the condition of the front end or if it's 2WD Secures it correctly for a shift distance tow. If that's the worst company ever...I'd hate to see how the bad ones treat the customers vehicles cause it sure as hell sounds like you give a crap about your customers and the vehicles you tow.
Excellent policy to make sure all drive wheels are off the ground for towing. That's being professional. Many modern 4x4 are only lubricated by the rear output shaft & just because it rolls free... doesn't mean it's getting lubricated and/or not causing internal wear/damage. Same with some having vacuum hubs. Free rolling doesn't mean it's safe. a little extra work doing it right vs doing whats fast or easy eliminates bogus damage claims. :)
there's a pump in the transfer case the rear drive shaft has to spin for the pump to sent fluid to the bearings. if the transfer case is a manual shift you can put it in neuteul keep the transmission in park. it allow you to tow the truck home.
People are telling him picking the front and pulling the driveshaft is faster and that his aluminum dollies will melt down and aren't ment for highway speeds or long distance
@@davidwoermansr its not faster at all. Plus, once you pull driveline, you're supposed to replace the installation hardware ( u joint straps & bolts) many people don't.. but as a business.. it can be a point of liability because it could be argued that they stretched & failed after reinstalling. This practice is usually only done on heavy duty vehicles like semis, busses, or other class 5-8 vehicles. Drop shaft & the repair shop reinstalls them. If THEY don't use new hardware . It's their liability. But dropping shafts on light duty towing is rare. Usually only if it's going a long distance @ highway speeds. Casey has done a video doing a 600 mile tow in dollies for all the skeptics... but not every dollie manufacturer says that's ok. They limit speed & distance because those little dollie tires & bearings are spinning 1.5 to twice the speed of the tow truck wheels & many can't take that. Long distance is usually done on flatbed by most companies for that reason.. Casey it's actually doing it the correct way.. even for a short local tow. Even if it was an older truck capable of doing it safely... the tow company doesn't know the mechanical condition of that truck..it COULD have a preexisting driveline problem & now they try to blame the tow company, even though they didn't damage it.. it's a sad world, but because so many aren't honest.. you gotta CYA ( cover your ass) & do it... but Casey is doing it correctly.
@@woody4u247 oh I know he's doing it right if he wasn't he'd be out of business there's just so many people telling him everything he's doing wrong when they have no clue WTF they're talking about
I dont have a towing business...yet (considering it) but i have a landscaping one. I was the guy who tried to do everything and was run down and worn out. Learning now niche are far better.
Some people just can't be happy for a guy who can run his business his way and make it and be happy they want it done their way so you're always stressed struggling and don't know if you're going to be able to pay the bills next month
How DARE you find a niche in your market, understand it, and fulfill the needs of that niche! Refer customers to your competition, expect that they will refer customers your way in return?!?!? I am SO disappointed (that other companies don't follow your lead.)
You no longer need to explain yourself to the "online warriors", An old boss used to mutter "All but 6, All but 6." I finally asked him what that meant and he told me this: F' em! all but 6, I need someone to carry my casket.
Everybody wants to be a super tower in the comments, your happy with working and going the extra mile to prevent secondary damage claims, good for you!
You have had the benefit of the explanations, now allow others. Everyone that hits the subscribe button is a real subscriber, no other things are required. 🙄
The businesses thatgo bankrupt are those that attempt to do everything, speaciality businesses are usually profitable as they are very good/efficient/profitable in their area.
Stay in your niche market. Where you live, the OSP rotation and other accident work can be real disturbing due the various conditions and bizarre accidents that occur. Hwy 97 is not known for many “minor” accidents.
You own a business and are successful so i would say keep doing you and and let people on the road know to MTFO when you see any tow truck on the side of the road
With the dollies they can't even blame you for tire damage. Like 2 months later "oh my god you drove a piece of rebar and broke a belt in my tire, I want a new tire".
The great thing about owning you own company, you can run it the way it works best for you, ie how many tow trucks have a child seat in the back, as always Casey great video.
I watch your videos all the time they're not only entertaining but they're very educational and you're just like a you got your s*** going on that's a so yep I like watching your videos if I ever get stuck over than that area out in the wilderness I will call you
Most the people talking smack just work for a big company they don't own it and probably have no idea how the company is run other than they get told what to do and how to do it so it must be the right and only way
you may not do 90% of what the other companies do, but you will do the 10% that they dont...... like you said you do the off road stuff, heck even Matt wont send a roll back down a dirt road (well 99% of the time, there is a few exceptions..... lol)
There is a clear difference between stupidity and taking on work that others don't want/can't do, As for the dirt road, I will go down any respectable dirt road no problem, Muddy bullshit, soft dirt or grass, etc absolutely not it's just utter stupidity for me to even think of bringing my 150k truck off on soft material that I know it's going to sink in, You have to have specialized equipment for specialized tasks, I have a specialized recovery truck for working from solid ground, I don't have a skid steer with a winch box, I don't have a 4wd mud truck with a winch, so offroad would be stupid for me to do, That is where guys like matt or casey come in, If that's the avenue they want to venture down and they have the equipment they are comfortable bringing in those environments then they can take that work that myself and many others won't do and aren't equipped to do.
@@towtruckaj Matt has several other wreckers rollbacks and employees that do the bulk of his business it's just not interesting content for his show he's even got roadside assistance vans for jumps lockouts fuel and such Windsor towing has a pretty good fleet
@@davidwoermansr fraud comes in all shapes and sizes, like I said I’m not accusing him of fraud, that’s already been done I’m just saying his business and fleet from face value alone doesn’t act as a defense against the claims, at the end of the day the burden of proof is on the accuser whoever is making the accusations has to prove the claim otherwise he’s innocent in the eyes of the law. However I have witnessed fraud occur in rather successful looking businesses with similar fleets and so I won’t rule it out as a possibility.
@@towtruckaj I wasn't accusing anyone of fraud so many people compare Matt and Casey and don't realize how big Matt's company really is all they know about is the off-road stuff when Matt himself has said it's less than 10 percent of his company's income if you look on his vehicles they are Windsor towing but he named his channel to where it would grab off road fanatics attention no fraud there he's 1 of the best people I've ever met I don't think he's capable of fraud
There was probably nothing wrong with it the shop he towed it to specializes in modifications lift kits stuff like that they did the 4x4 conversion in his tow truck someone probably bought it from that dealership and had it sent right to the other to get modified for what he wanted
Sounds like you have things figured out. Absolutely nothing wrong with staying within a niche market. I know a number of people with the same business strategy who are very successful.
He was getting a dig in on all the guys working for a tow company that said if he was scared to get cars along the highway because people are stupid and don't slow down and move over and almost hit you that he wasn't fit for towing and should find other work
Reminds me of a company up here in Ontario Canada that also has a niche. Theirs is flatbed work for containers, rental equipment and other misc equipment.
Hey Man, I think you did a great job. Should think about adding taking photos before towing each vehicle. It will save you big down the road. Photos for people who report damage after a tow is going off right now due to lack of income and more protection is great. A photo can easily prove you didnt do the damage. Pick up and drop off done and done.
So Wise , Thank You . Doing what Works for you is What I watch . In my opinion why hurt you're self when you don't have to ,and as long as the cashflow works , and you and family are happy . Who cares what the trolls think
You do you if someone else has a problem with that that's their problem not yours be safe have fun and enjoy your work and remember if you like what you do it's not work
Casey you could have made that a challenge you could have parked the truck the other direction ,, lol .. what you do by yourself for towing is good if you did what the other bigger company's do then you need another truck and driver or 2 more with calls coming in at any hour day and night .. you forget what sleep is ..then your busy with upkeep on tow rigs ,, never no free time .. so the way you are doing it in my thought is great .. it works for you .. thumbs up on the video ..
Wow. Lots of people must be professional tow truck drivers to be able to tell you how to do your job. Personally, I don't think I could come home and watch other people do my job after I was finished doing my job for the day. But that's just me.
if front wheels are not centered 100% it will pull and fight you, then there is another reason why your correct on dolleys for old school reason!!!!!!!!!!!!! older cars, like I pulled in old days, they had worn out steering boxes, you rope the steering wheel, yes pre-steering lock vehicles, I own several still, then pick up by rear, then vehicle goes to the left several feet into other lane, then it comes back maybe wiping out mail boxes, yeah guy drove them with totally wonn out steering & was always shuffling steering wheel to maintain straight path, so thats why I believe in the dolley method... I posted to another of your videos today, but I dont like the normal tow truck or roll back scene either, thats why I quit in mid 90's, but back then no towing license was required, I liked the wrecks, being on call, I like manual PTO chain drive winches, split booms to anchor truck if need to, if using wheel lift, I liked the cable lifted one from winch cable. blocking under car to use tow belt. I am a dinosaur from bygone era
