Discgraceful scenes vs GNG CC at the top of Div 6. We played out of our skins to get us out of a batting hole. We had them on the ropes. There was only one way they were going to make sure they win. It was not pretty. It was pretty disgraceful . No funny cricket here - just cricket that makes you want to sit on someones sofa and cry.....

Always the Asian teams mate. If people want to accuse me of being racist for saying that, it's up to them but I am not, I just know over my many years playing local league and village cricket that the Asian teams take the game far too seriously and they will do literally anything to win. It's even worse when they play each other - a couple of years back, two Asian sides hired our pitch and the game ended up with a mass brawl, and GBH committed through assault with a bat. They can never chill out, they wildly appeal for everything, sledge all the time and cheat and ruin the game then accuse anyone who calls them out for it, racist. Sick of it to be honest. Well done for telling the truth here.

Can we all just agree that if you're nicked it and your mate is umpiring that you walk? It's a shitty thing to do to leave him in a position to give you out when you know that you are, and it only harbours bad feeling. Batsman need to take some responsibility at this level of the game too.

100% if you don't have neutral umpires, it is not fair on your umpire if you know you have hit it. Even with a neutral umpire the batsman should ALWAYS walk in club cricket.

At that level( a level I played at for many years) you need to park the idea of getting lbws, bar the 1 that scoots along the ground and hits you on the back leg hitting middle.. I can t understand how people continue to play the game and get upset every weekend because of not getting an lbw.... Something something the definition of insanity is doing...... Problem is when I start playing the only thing that was "fcuking plumb" was shin, back leg and on middle. Now clipping leg is "fcuking plumb".. it has distorted everything

Played Kent league cricket - a level below panel umpires - and the umpire at one end was not calling no balls. Blatant no balls, ball after ball. The bowler was getting an extra yard of pace and taking wickets. That bowler was the umpire’s son. Cheating at cricket is the lowest of the low. However, as blatant as the sabotage and cheating was, you cannot appeal for LBW standing at mid wicket regardless of how plum it might look

Our 3rd team had a similar situation in the 1st game, the league knew about this team but did nothing as didn't want toupset them, in the return game, club captain asked if i didn't mind dropping down from the 1st team, opening bowler, nipped it along at about 70-75mph plenty quick enough for div 7 lol.... was my pleasure, 7-26, thank you very much.... after that, they had to have neutral umpires at their own expense
@garyjones3688

Have come across something similar. In the end, the majority of the rests of the sides in the league would mysteriously cry off during the week before they were due to play the problem side saying they couldn't raise a side that week. It meant the problem side got promoted but rarely played a fixture that season. Which was a win win for all of the other sides in that division. Plus it was a level playing field for the other sides as we all got deducted 5 poinys for crying off versus the problem side.

I was playing in a tour game and my team, for a laugh, told the home side I was a defensive bat so just bowl one wide and appeal and the umpire (bowler's dad) would give it. Unfortunately, I had had quite a few winter nets and had changed my approach that season but not played for the touring side. The opposition put in a short point and the first ball was tame outside off so I launched at it, cut if for four and nearly decapitated the short point. Next ball went for 4 too. I was oblivoius and when I eventually got out I was told I only got one 4 in the first over, very pissed off!

I once captained our main limited-overs team against a (historically) strong team. The venue was always conducive to huge run-scoring. The outfield was always fast, and the pitch was a belter...most of the time. But...player umpires can sometimes be the bane of many a good cricket match. As captain, I always told my umpires... If something seems out, think about it twice, and if you still believe it's out, give him out. I do not tolerate cowboys that give teammates out with gun fingers because a pad was hit and you didn't bother to consider height or travel. But I also despise cheating. If it hits a batter halfway up his shin and you couldn't see any stumps, then he is out. And I will not defend you with the opposition if you blatantly cheated. That day the opposition was 9 down, and still required 30 runs for the win. They had the time to get there, but not the skill. In walks the last batsman, but with an umpire replacement next to him. Their captain. I immediately brought myself on to bowl from the same end their captain would umpire as I wanted to see, from my accurate perspective, the level of cheating that may commence. He called balls wide that passed inside the marker by 10 cm. When he knew I caught on to it, he started calling front-foot no-balls (and I already asked my cover fielder to monitor my front foot for when this will inevitably happen). When he called the second no-ball I called my fielder in and had a word with the umpire. Telling him I was on to him, and I will be submitting a report as both my fielder and I have been anticipating this and we both know that zero no-balls were bowled. Then I got an edge on the batter...it went to the first slip, but was taken by the keeper. Not out. Now there was pandemonium, but he decided to threaten us with reports of his own. Yet...I heard the non-striker mutter "not this again..." It turns out it was a regular occurrence. I then got the batter LBW...twice...halfway up his front and back foot, three balls apart. Dead middle. Not out ...both times. Our entire team sat down in disgust while he started to look as if he was fearing for his life. The non-striker turned to him and scolded him. "I want to lose with honor before winning like this, skippy" An over later the batter was given out from the other end...from a edge we were unsure occurred. Speculative appeal. But clearly, the other guy decided that balance needed to be restored. A year later we played them again, and their skipper was now just a player. A very quiet player that never saw umpiring duties.
@thecricketingbison6418
@thecricketingbison6418 Год назад

Unfortunately in our 6th division, most of the teams are like this that we play against. They will not give LBW's and they are reluctant to give a caught behind if the batsman doesnt walk. So we have a simple rule. No matter how plum it looks, we don't give LBW's on the front foot. Of course we also judge the other teams umpiring if they bat first (Which happens in all but 1 or 2 games a season, we are blessed by the tossing gods). If they umpire fair, then we return the favor. This hardly ever happens unfortunately.

When I used to play many years ago, we had one team we actually could never field a side against. Although we had a large playing pool to choose from, we never had sufficient players available to play against that certain team. Meaning that we had to forfeit the games against them. Sadly this state of affairs came to pass after a number of years of blatant cheating suffered by us. At that time (the late 70's to late 80's) each team provided their own umpire. Unfortunately the umpire who appeared for that certain team probably knew more about the Highway Code than he did the Laws of Cricket. Thankfully the league then started appointing neutral umpires to all games and surprising no one that certain club started to lose a lot more games than they used to win.... But I would also add that it does no good to have your own players behaving badly. That simply makes it look as if you're no better than the opposition. I know it can be frustrating, but as someone else has mentioned on here, always try to smile, even when things are going very badly against you!

I would recommend your own team remain above reproach. No throwing bats, wearing a white top, coloured trousers while umpiring etc. It does not make your team look good either. Get some of your players on an umpiring course (even if they are current players). It is astonishing the number of players who do not know the MCC and league playing rules. It is a disgrace when you feel you are playing a team that are taking extreme liberties but do not fall to their level and do not let your standards fall. It is very difficult to prove beyond doubt that this team cheated but the preponderance of the evidence does support they are as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a fresh steaming pile of poo!

My comp has 3 Shield grades and 7 lower grades and my side is in the 4th grade of the lower grades and we rarely get Umpires. Now they expect me to Umpire when we are batting, at 58 I am still batting about 8 so normally Umpire until about 4 down. Umpires get a fair bit of abuse which is why most blokes dont want to do it, its not an easy job its pretty thankless tbh. I would rather be playing though those days are fast coming to an end. Umpire said it couldn’t be out as it was first ball of the innings. He went on to get a hundred which ended up being the difference as nobody else on their team did much damage

I feel like they decided that because they didn't get decisions from you guys, they wouldn't give anything themselves. They failed to realise however, that the reason you guys didn't give anything is because all of their shouts were pretty obviously not out. Every LBW besides one was clearly down leg... So they felt slighted by your team's decisions despite their appeals being terrible. Sorry you guys had to deal with this, very frustrating!
@jtintheuk297
@jtintheuk297 Год назад
I sometimes feel there is a bit of this. They genuinely dont know the laws and appeal for absolutely everything from every position. The concept of it being not out if it pitches outside leg is lost on them, arguing it would have hit the stumps....but then another part of me realises they are simply cheats who dont value the game and are happy to win by cheating and find it all rather amusing that thats how they did it

The mankad was bad enough but when you can hear a double noise off camera and someone doesn’t walk/get given wtf has happened to the spirit of cricket. The LBWs can always be contentious when no neutral umps but when the ump just looks at the floor and utters not out and cannot give a reason for their decision making you know something nefarious is afoot. Shocking behaviour by the opposition.
