Brother as a Cert Harley Tech for the last decade, and a life long biker, car mechanic, it depends on cam choice, and doing the cam plate, high flo oil pump, etc, also a wide band tuner will make a world of difference, I recommend Thunder Max to my customers, you can actually get better gas mileage if the bike is set up for such, also running ethanol free fuel makes a big difference too it cost more up front but you make it up on the back end in mileage....Safe Travels My Friend, always enjoy the trips U share...
Thank you! I currently have a Thundermax installed with Fueling 541 cams and since I got the work done I can't get better than 215 on fillup doing 75-80. Ethanol free is a game changer but it's pretty much non existent where I am. Thank iu for watching!
I got woods22xe, s&s pushrods, D&D billet, and ThunderMax tuner on 2017 RGS and tell me why I’m getting 140-160 on a full tank??? Horrible, trying to get back to 200 on a full tank
@@JustGKue I run red shift 528 cams, did the hi flo oil pump, 2 piston tensioners, fueling cam plate, s&s adjustable push rods, v&h exhaust, v&h stage 2 air intake, and actually got 2 to 8 mpg increase depending on how I ride. You're probably pushing a high lift cam, and getting more hp than I am, I just wanted better throttle response, and passing without dropping a gear, and I can hear your bike hits a nice lick even through youtube... it's all about what U set up for bro.
Most underrated upgrade for a touring bike (I ride a Street Glide) is the backrest… I commute 80 miles each way for work and the backrest makes it much easier on my already bad back
I respect and admire all your content G Kue, but i have to respectfully agree to disagree with you on this one ! Daily commuting to work and back can be costly if your gas mileage is not the greatest and you have to commute many miles a day, But voluntary trips and fun riding, has never been about gas mileage for me. It has always been about the ride itself, and the feeling that riding for pleasure gives me ! It has been about the joy i get interacting with my bike. The way cams bring out the hidden power, unique sound and exciting characteristics of my bike ! As for me, I'll take that over gas mileage any day, and all day ! Cams for me, is the Best upgrade that you can do for any bike in my humble opinion...Will always support your channel because its okay to disagree... and your content is awesome as well !!!
Of course! For me. I'm not a well off person by any stretch and maybe I just have to wrong cams. But the worry of how many more stops of gas is worrisome for me. Many times I just wing it because like you said it's the joy of riding. If I could do it again I would make sure I had one to truly fit my style. Thanks for your comment!
I have to disagree on the cam bro. Your throttle hand is just strong 😂. I got better highway gas mileage after installing the S&S complete cam chest, woods cam, and custom Fuel Moto Dynojet tune. Maybe it’s an M8 benefit?
I agree. The worst upgrade I did to my 18 ultra limited was the cam install. It just drinks the gas. I lost about 40 miles because of the cam install. Best upgrades were the back rest and ape hangar handlebars ( a game changer if you're into logging those miles).
I’m glad someone’s sayin it. My bros constantly after me to upgrade cam. I’m like dang I love the way it runs with tabs slip-ons and extreme heavy breather with a new tune. Runs strong and gets 250 miles/tank. Best mod - legend front and back w one inch drop.

Getting a new seat, I have an 2000 RK and the seat was stock up until early this year. Plus I'm a big guy. I remember one trip, I seriously thought that I had caused some nerve damage from the pain of being on the old seat. Godspeed
I hear you on the gas mileage drop with a cam...but it sure makes the bike more fun to ride. Saddlemen SDC seat is probably the best upgrade as far as comfort goes. No more sore ass or lower back pain on longer rides.
Nah, Cam upgrades are the best. But you have to get a good cam. I have Cycle Rama 480 cam tuned right. You have to go outside of HD for the tuning and cam. When I fill up on my 2019 Road Glide Special, it says around 190 miles. In other states, over 210 when I fill up.
Man when I make it home this weekend, I have new bars, grips, sissy bar, luggage rack, seat and hand guards waiting on me to put on my road king. Really had been contemplating the mid frame wind deflectors as well as fork mounted wind deflectors too.
All good upgrades. I haven't done the hand guards. As for the cams, I think I'm good with just my stage one. Bike has plenty of power to get down the road the way she is now. 👍🏾✌🏾
@@JustGKue Bro, with a 541 lift on your cam, that is for straight up HP up top. And with a lift that high, I am sure your tune has to dump a lot of fuel to not run lean. My $.02
Generally speaking, the twin cams have a much bigger hit to gas mileage than putting a cam on a M8. That said, the M8’s have more than enough useable power for me out the box. Throw on a free flowing air cleaner and some slip-ons, and Im cool. Maybe I’m getting old..
Thank you for your honesty! Also for being real .. “ Speaking from existing “…. I like that you are real. You just made a lifelong subscriber. Peace out
Thank you for the valuable info about the cams. I’ve been thinking about a stage 2 upgrade but I don’t really feel like I need it. Mostly I like the way the stage 2 sounds. Lol
I'm going to have to disagree with dude... I had cams done and then had a Dyno tech (not a computer) do the tune and it's a entirely different machine.
I’m not a ground pounder, so the S&S 475C was a pleasant upgrade. Yes. I agree. You do spend more money on gas. But it’s well worth it since I don’t travel as much. I love the cam with with my D&D 2-1 Exhaust. Worst Option : Being tricked into upgrading to a stage IV 117 by HD within the 1st 60 days of purchasing my new bike. That won’t happen ever again, I will go out of State ( I live here in CA) and get all the motor upgrades with aftermarket parts and Dino tuned for much cheaper. As always, great vid Bro. Blessings. 💪🏾👍🏾👊🏾
@@JustGKue Exactly….. it’s horrible here Bro. CA is on the decline. Looking to move eventually. They try and control everything a person do here including not having any friendly (open carry) gun laws. Need some pro gun Republicans in office. lol. Another subject for another time. As always, I enjoy your vids bro. Keep ‘‘em coming. Blessings.
I got a mustang seat to lower me an inch on my 19 ultra limited. That pos is a sponge. Infact it may hold water better than a sponge until you sit on it
That's the Only thing I Disagree with You every Harley I had the Cam Upgrade was Nessary ,I believe the Cam choice is the Key an who tune your Bike my cam luv's 80-90 mph cruzing no down shifting Twist and Go Riding an lower rpm's saving Yo Motor 😎👍
What no cam...sounds like you went cheap on the cam the stock Harley is junk and if you're worried about gas why buy a Harley get a Japanese bike 😂 all the things to complain about regarding a Harley and My brother chose to complain about a cam upgrade 😂 performance baggers is where it's at see you in the rearview 😂 S&S 124 with all the trimmings rides amazing and sounds even better 😂
Regret cheap seat backrest. Cheap Amazon Highway pegs. I highly recommend 1) Mustang Super Deluxe seat with Backrest. 2) Ciro Frame Mounted Highway pegs mounts 3 )Kuryakyn Heavy Industry Swithblade Footpegs. These three items changed my riding experience.
Agree 100% with that - did that when I changed out the nylon rollers on my T-Sport, and the shop recommended changing the cams. Ruined the smooth running engine I had enjoyed for 65,000 miles!
Best upgrade or mod for your bike is a suspension Harley suspension is junk, I have legends front and back and my bike rides like a rail plus my passenger loves it too 😀
Yep I bought my bike with cam already installed, and I complained about the gas mileage. Now I lnow why it burn so much gas, you make the 3rd or 4th person say cam kills gas mileage
Worst upgrade ever, ultima 6 speed builder kit from American Classic Motors, in PA. maybe have 500 miles on it, and transmission locked up at 50 MPH. ALMOST took me out. Took cover off and figured out that somehow the pin came out if shifter paw. Wrote to ultima and American classic motors and they refuse to correct the issue. Well, ultima refunded ACM, and ACM refuses to do anything to rectify the situation. Spend the money and go with Jim's or BAKER 6 speed upgrade. They won't screw you over and stand behind their products.
On my 2015 road king my best upgrade-road sofa saddleman seat and engine air deflectors game changer… also, looking to do rear shocks anyone suggestions? Nice channel bro! Be safe
The best thing I did to my Super Glide was putting a Sundowner seat on. The stock seat was like sitting on a rock. When I up graded to an Electra Glide the guy before me put a after market radio in that the face lights changed colors with the music. At 5:30 in the morning on the way to work that changing light thing drove me crazy. That radio didn’t stay on the bike for long.
Best upgrade on a new HD touring is getting rid of the stock 12" shocks and going with a 13" premium brand. I went with Ohlins 159s. The LED turn signal/brake upgrade, and shield are also way up there. I went with Custon Dynamics and Freedom, respectively. My Corbin seat is worth every penny. All HD touring bikes should come with bag guards. Worst, not me, but my buddy went with a 21" front wheel, and hated it.
For me, the best was a Stage 1. Pipes (Vance and Hines) and an intake (Screaming Eagle). Sound and performance. I agree with most comments: Bars and a backrest are a must upgrade. If the bike doesn't fit you and it's uncomfortable, you'll suffer or not ride it. Also a seat upgrade.
Just found your channel, appreciate the advice! Going to look into different mid-frame wind deflectors... For my 15 FLHTK 1st thing I did was put on a TMax ECM, then a full S&S CAM Chest upgrade (needed more torque under 3k RPMS). As for comfort, I am 6.3" / 235lbs I needed the extended 2-up seat w/ backrest, made a world of difference. For my 15 FLHR 1st thing I did was put on a TMax ECM. Comfort wise I added a Saddleman Extended Solo Seat w/ backrest, extended brake/clutch arms, 15" footboards, & 16" apes. A cheap upgrade I did 4 days ago on both bikes was adding 1.1/4" footboard extenders. Was very suprised how just that little bit of extra width outward made both bikes 100x's more comfortable to ride (like a Civic vs Limo). Check around EBAY or Amazon, got my sets for $27ea (4 bolts + 4 fitted metal pieces & I've seen 3 different sizes 3/4", 1", 1.1/4"). Thx - Look Fwd to your future videos... Bones - 2131
Quick upgrade I did that I REALLY enjoy is my Air car2play....it lets me do carplay wirelessly so I dont have to hook my phone every time I get on the bike. I have broken 2 iphones now due to phone mounts and vibration issues (and thats even with having a quadlock dampening mount)...so I leave my phone in my bag or vest pocket and its great to still get my maps and music... As far as upgrades without worry about cost....Bars and suspension were my VERY BEST upgrades with a custom seat running a close 3rd....those 3 will have the BIGGEST IMPACT on your ride outside of performance. Everyone always seems to go exhaust and tune, but if you ride a lot, getting rid of that Harley suspension and getting your hands and arms out of your lap in the "wheel barrel" position are a HUGE IMPACT to riding. With your LED's...be careful and make sure to read the reviews, as I have seen guys melt thier electrical systems trying to save money on lights on a harley....they tie directly into your computer system, so it can get costly if you get something that shorts it out....it can melt your entire wiring harness if there are shorts.
Best upgrade on my 19 Road Glide Ultra and 17 Road King Special where my heated grips. Also my road king is a 107 to a 124 with the zippers kit and a 468 cam tuned with a TTS and I’m getting 240miles to a tank. Also love the Rockford set up in both my bikes.
LED Signals and brake light is a great I love them . great video I changed my Rear bumper light with the Harley Brake/running light makes me more visible
When I talked to my builder, I told him I wanted something for the highway and I travel and he recommended the Fueling 541 ....after about 2 years...I'm not impressed
@@JustGKue I know guys get loyal to certain builders, but I would try a different one. A different cam with a better tune targeting fuel efficiency should bring it back up. Your tuner should be able to favor either torque & Hp, or fuel efficiency.
Added a cam to my 20 rk 107 seemed to get decent gas milage. Now have a 22 rg with the 114. Idk if I am gonna do the cam. Bike pulls like a tank stock. If I do probably hd again as I am looking for longevity and reliability love to travel across country as well. How do those bars work? They seem to far back at least for me be like sitting in a Barca lounger
I've been getting hell online Facebook because of them...but laying down long miles....they're very comfortable. Allows me to position myself on my bike like I'm in a lazy boy!
All of the upgrades to my bike was well needed except for the chopped engine guard I put on it. It took me about a month to realize that I love the full guards way better. Oh yeah. I also didn’t want the meat hook 14” bars either so I changed those to a 20” pull back. Great video G-Kue 💪🏽💯
@@JustGKue look up where your cam has power. Try to stay under the max, some are like 3500-4500, so you need to change like 3200 so it doesn't go into power mode.
I gotta cam, and I enjoy it, but I can see where ur coming from, cuz on the same token, never understood why ppl get those 141 inch motors to tour with
I got the Harley fangs..agreed. They are a game changer when using the windshield. Only run the windshield like today when I rode was 37°. They sure do cut the wind.
Let's see... Modifications: Khromewerks 4.5 mufflers with tracer tips Auxiliary Brake Light/Running Light/Turn Signal Conversion Kit Accessories: Hand guards Harley phone mount Saddlebag lid bras Back rest Thx for the heads up on the cam upgrade. If it reduces fuel economy, then it's not for me.
My boy and a few of my other guys are riding to Arizona from Alabama in June. He already has a Lowrider S with a 117 and he’s going to put a 475 cam in it. His feelings are going to be hurt when he realizes he’s going to have to gas up every 120 or so miles. In the meantime, I installed a Commander 6 to improve my gas mileage. He’ll be stopping before me and I’m going to be on my Phantom 750.
Hey G..did you ever upgrade your suspension..I have a 2013 EG still with air shocks..heading to Deadwood next June..debating whether to invest in shocks or go with what I have..heard good and bad and it is an expense..Ride Safe
Kue, man for me the torque cam was one of the upgrades I really liked. It didn't affect my mileage that much, well at least when I keep my speed around 75mph. Now once you go above that, the mileage drops quickly proportionally to how much faster you are running. For me the worst upgrade I did was changing my bars without understanding how much that would change the comfort and handling of the bike. I loved the look of the bars( Factory 47 and a Harley Chiseled Low) I tried both and neither worked well for me. Finally found some custom spec bars that met my needs. Peace out.
I bought the cheaper Amazon turn signals, and I was losing LEDs after one season. I bought the name brand stuff and they're still going strong. The cheap stuff is just that. Your mileage will vary just like adding a cam.
Thinking about adding a cooling fan to my new Heritage 114. A lot of hot stop & go here in Central Florida. Had a souped up bike before & it was not enjoyable at normal speeds & when riding distance.
You had me till you said the cam is the worst upgrade. That’s the best upgrade of course you’ll lose gas mileage but you gain 30-40 hp on a m8 motor. Well worth it a good tune won’t make you feel the lose of gas mileage loss as much. Remember smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
Agreed brother. But I just have reframed it because of the amount of traveling I do. And over 85 she runs hard and strong but at this point in my life I'm more concerned with getting smiles from the long trips and locals I've visited. Thank you for your response! Ride safe!
@@JustGKue completely understand stay safe. Personally if I still had a twin cam motor I wouldn’t cam it but the m8 sounds like a sewing machine I feel like it needed it 🤣
Hey! I would look on Facebook marketplace for a mustang super tourer ..it is one of the best seats for traveling. You could find them for about under 300 I know it's a lil steeper but we'll worth it.
One excellent mod i rarely hear about is to go down one tooth on the rear gear. It really gives your bike a quick jump of acceleration and it leaves plenty on the top end. Trust me it works great!
