The wrong approach? | Disc Golf Lessons

Are you stuck just throwing one type of approach shot? Do you get tunnel vision and only see every shots as a hyzer shot... even if there are more obstacles in the way? In this video I am going to talk about practice all four types of approach shots so that you can be comfortable choosing the best line and not try to force a bad shot because it "feels better". I hope this helps and will inspire you to get out there and practice.

This might be the most useful, most practical disk golf video I've seen. Thank you.

Great Job! I really love it when videos are about playing the game. Too many RU-vid videos are all about selling plastic. Thanks Pete

thanks, I try to keep it balanced between teaching and playing more than the plastic... but in the end, I am just trying to film what I like and am currently thinking about, and hopefully someone will get something out of it. I appreciate you taking time to comment.

Good stuff Pete. You have just exposed the foundation of my game. As someone who scrambles alot playing woods courses I have to be creative and these are definitely shots I am familiar with. The berg and A2 is the poison I choose to make me look better than I actually am for sure.

Let's face it... driving and putting are pretty nerve wracking most of the time... having a reliable approach game is like an oasis in the storm. :D thanks for watching!

@@ogdiscgolferwell I tried it. I’m in Colorado where things should be more stable, but I couldn’t get my roc3 to not turn into a forehand roller unless I threw it flat. Guess I need to go back to the store and buy a new overstable disc, not one from the used section

I played on an Open Level for many years (PDGA #9787)and you can never forget the basics or preach them enough...that simple shot can save from a huge mistake until your game picks up...even then, terrain-wind-distance and back drop always differ take the time there is no rush and think more on the simple approach then killing a birdie shot just to chase a "disc" and hope you even par now ^^
@ogdiscgolfer
@ogdiscgolfer Месяц назад
First I really needed you to be #9876! :D But, that is just my number fixation kicking in! As I get older, the basics are becoming so much more important... slowing down and choosing the right shot is so much better than rushing and hitting that dang limb you never saw! :D Thanks for watching! Good to have a 4 digit in the comments!

Good to know I have the exact same shot as 7:00 I use my RPM Kea as its sticky and has a bead. (Used to use the Pig but it's so beat up it's understable now) Thrown slow enough (at ~30ftor less) and you can do that shot with anything in the bag, without even looking at the disc, and it behaves the same.

Yep... you get it... slow = overstable. Thanks for watching!

as someone did ask ...yeah distance would be nice i wondered on a few shots myself...saying "like on this flick its about...or on this putt-shot-...at or from about blah blah blah distance etc....gives people range to play with from your ideas and teachings ^^
@ogdiscgolfer
@ogdiscgolfer Месяц назад
thanks... I will try to remember to do that. I think one of the reasons why I don't harp on distance is because everybody's distance range is so different and I try to focus on the principle of the shot versus just trying to have people emulate shots that I'm doing. I hope that makes sense but I will definitely try to remember to talk about distances where I think you're applicable. Thanks so much

Learning anny approach shots has shaved more throws from my rounds than any other aspect of the game. That and the Berg. 🤣

As I watch more and more players... I am constantly thinking how many strokes they could save by having a little more consistency with their upshots. And let's not even start about the Berg! :D

Dang at Homer I met a guy from out of town out there to play in the rain this morning and forgot to check the distance. But I may go back out later on and I'll try to remember. But you know how scattered I am so you really have no chance at all of me actually remembering to do it :-)

@@ogdiscgolfer well thank you so following your advice I set up to baskets 62’ apart one on a hill the other under tree limb and then measured out 106’ feet from up hill basket grab 25 disc 12 putters and 12 putt/approach made two in the basket at 62’ the rest 50% hit bullseye the rest well within circle 1. Thanks for the advice on approaches
