Land acknowledgements have always driven me crazy (I work in something where I have to listen to them often, can't elaborate more, but let's say I'm familiar with them, haha), but I don't remember ever hearing one where they say, "And our theather has a program for Native Americans pursuing theater and the arts," or helping Native Ams express their experiences through theater, or a university saying they'll make an experimental school in conjunction with the tribe, etc. Never! You need to look into the case of a school principal in Ontario (Canada) who committed suicide this July due to a DEI training that went awry and led to the destruction of his reputation and the loss of his job. He spoke against something the animator said, and she proceeded to call him a white supremacist and make an example of him. Everyone turned their backs on him. 2 years of trying to get justice for himself and he sadly couldn't take it anymore. Richard Bilkszto. Really sad. He was not a racist or white supremacist. Don't these Universities have Boards of Trustees? Alumni Associations? Is there no one who might be concerned that donations might dry up if alumni and the community decide the university is no longer functioning as such and therefore no longer worthy of continuing? Don't legislatures have to appropriate tax dollars for these madhouses? Is anyone talking to public officials about how these schools are just begging for a class action civil rights lawsuit?

Tabia's experience in that meeting described at the beginning is the most egregious case of gas lighting that I have ever heard...they took offence to Tabia's rational suggestions on how the faculty could achieve its goals, and they retort with incredibly offensive language directed at the individual. You really couldn't make this stuff up.
This interview/conversation was FANTASTIC! Thank you so much Dr. Lee for all that you do! You are truly an inspiration. I, myself, am a career IT administrator within the UC system for 23 years now, and I've witnessed firsthand on the administrative (non-faculty) side very similar trends that are seeping in to our required trainings, performance evaluations, and other policy driven criteria. There are so many of us that are both wary and uncomfortable with this ideology, yet we find ourselves unable or afraid to speak out against it for fear of retaliation.
The company I work for has a diversity equity & belonging training that is strictly about respecting your co-workers and understanding that people are diverse, whether that's because of their culture or just because people are different from each other, and the key to getting along is not being afraid to talk to each other. Race isn't even mentioned, though the people presenting are of multiple races & ethnicities, It's actually quite a good program Most of the material in it would be useful no matter what the ethnic mix in your office is. So those kinds of DEI trainings are out there, at least in the corporate world. Of course, the goals of a corporation are different from the goals of a university. I mean, they really just want their employees to function as a productive unit.
