When I was a little kid, my parents threw out our already old SNES and games because they were old. The next console we got was a Gamecube. It's not even ten feet from me, and it was purchased almost 20 years ago. Don't throw out your old media, ever.

This must be what Don Mattrick truly meant when he said "We have a console for those people, it's called Xbox 360". What he was actually saying was "Our future games will suck, stay on the Xbox 360". All is forgiven Don. 😂

The xbox 360 is one of the best consoles ever made. I recently fired up my Halo 4 edition 360 and my Sister gave me a 360 she used to play. The number of games between the 2 hard-drives is enough for me to play for years to come!

Old games are better

My biggest regret in life is that I traded in my Xbox 360 and all my games when the Xbox one came out. I grew up poor and didn’t have the means to just buy the Xbox one outright so me and my brother scrapped together what we could and traded in the Xbox to cover the rest. It honestly wasn’t worth it. Years of game saves I’ll never get back.

7th gen is the best time in gaming imo, after trying everything I now only buy and play 360 and ps3, more that enough games on those to last myself a lifetime, I need nothing more.

The industry was always cornering itself. The more powerful the hardware the less variety in Aaa you get. Games were artistic in their own way, now it's just a movie experience with a pad in your hand.

There’s nothing new under the sun. As time speeds forward, we’ll see how we lived in the golden age of video games and didn’t realize just how awesome it was until we were mid-aged. Great video.

7th gen was the peak for me, the point where graphics hit that HD sweetspot and made the last big jump in quality before diminishing returns, and the games were still focused on fun rather than microtransactions.

Imagine that: I purchased Sleeping Dogs more than a decade ago. I decided to see if it still worked. Popped it on the 360 disk tray. No server connection, no updates, and it worked just as I remember it.

I recently "rediscovered" the Nintendo 3DS (I used to have one years ago, but I was really into PC RTS games at the time, so I barely touched it and sold it eventually) now with the console being Jailbroken I have a pocket sized system that could easily keep me entertained for the next 20 years with all of the games it can run/emulate, and the system and a 256GB micro sd card set me back a little over $100 USD.

Makes complete sense to me. I went to GameStop the other day, planning to buy a used PS5, and then I saw a 3DS XL under 200 bucks in excellent shape. I said never mind, I'll take that. Later that day, but put some custom firmware on that baby and now today I have more than $500 worth of games on that thing. Been having a blast with it, and I have zero regrets.

Modern gaming has made me glad I am a retro gamer especially with the whole debate on not actually owning digital games or game developers removing content on your consoles without your knowledge or permission. I loved it when most of the games did not have to be downloaded just to play. I am still rocking my Sega Genesis and N64.

One thing I hate about newer games is the intros, like myself i have a kid so i don't have the time i used to, i hate having my time wasted with fluff content and cinematics, if I wanted to watch a movie I would. Just let me play the game. This is coming from someone who in the right game absolutely loves it but in a racing or shooter game why waste our time.

Dude- Truth!! The extra cash outlay does NOT equal the “added” enjoyment. 5x more expensive isn’t 5x better. The $100 cost of a 360 and 20 of the best older games is MAJOR value. Maybe the longest stretch of fun and enjoyment you could get for the money! Plus, all of us know that when you’re immersed in fallout 3, you’re not constantly thinking, “this would be so much better in 4k HD!!” Nonsense. Great video.

Don't forget you could download music CDs to it with the visualizer that was dope. Lots of music played on mine. I was just thinking today about getting a 360 again. Cheers mate.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug. Just turned on the 360 to play Minecraft and Skyrim again and it's amazing

As I got older I found I appreciated things more and wanted to hold onto them.

I think this rings true more than ever with the current generation, because I've felt virtually no reason to upgrade my Xbox One X to a Series X.

The reality is, you never know what you really want. You become attached to something, and then disattached. At some point you crave for some old classics from the 360 era, and then you get bored and come back to the new stuff. Good or bad, you are like always in the same place, the only moment you feel something is when you transition. What we really crave is basically a surprise, not knowing what lies ahead.

1. Car Combat game, I'll admit never seen it before, no idea 2. Fable 2, I'm pretty sure it's 2 not 3 3. Bioshock 4. Ace Combat Assault Horizon (BANGER SOUNDTRACK) 5. Forza Motorsport 4 6. WET! (God I wish we had a sequel or successor, can't believe you grabbed this, was fantastic) Agreed on the controller, it's still the best imo, those narrow triggers felt so much better than the modern wraparound kind. Random recommendation, but if you see one of the later controllers, with the rotatable DPad, it's essential, that DPad is fantastic and I've loved my Chrome Blue since I got it all those years ago.

I recently purchased a ps2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 and have been slowly building my library back. I never thought gaming could get this bad.

Played the 360 version of halo reach recently to beat legendary. Just the main menu of the game is so atmospheric and awesome, its missing from today's games for sure.

I run a junk removal business and I just got one yesterday during a pick up. The disc drive is stuck open and the hard drive is gone but it booted up perfectly. I’m building a system link set up in my garage for me and my kids with CRTs I get for free as well. I can’t stress how many classic games are on this system. I slept on it during its life cycle but for the past couple of years I have been loving the system. I couldn’t agree more on the controller for this system.

Great video, and also the PS3 one too. I totally agree about this generation, there’s so much enjoyment to be had with the Xbox 360, PS3 & Wii. I find myself playing this generation more than the current as it’s not as frustrating and just so pure & fun - no micro transactions, no service games, no games released broken and needing endless patching, no massive installs you need to wait hours for. Just put the disc in & enjoy. And a lot of the games still hold up well today, Forza Horizon & Motorsport games on the 360 still look lush. I just leave my XB series s to the kids to play on whilst I enjoy my 360, PS3 & Wii.

I hooked up my 360 2 weeks ago to play all of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare campaigns. Im having a blast, more then most of the modern games. Its like what you're saying updates that are only a few megabytes instead of 20 gigabytes, no day 1 patches needed, no battle passes, no micro transactions just pure fun! Subbed!

I recently bought a 360 and a huge collection I gave my son the ps5 and he still rather not only play but just watch me play 360 games. That says a lot!

I have most of the correct modern consoles but I often drag my ps3 and Xbox 360 out. I generally rather install the 360 games first so it plays off the hard drive so it runs a lot quieter

Just finished another semester of college and decided to look for my old Xbox 360 in my attic at home when I visited and just hooked it up yesterday and still works. Just need to buy the battery packs for the controllers. I’m looking forward to putting in some old games and reminiscing on my childhood

Great video dude! Totally agree, I've been playing a lot older games recently and really appreciate how they just WORK. No insane downloads, installs, boring cutscenes/tutorials, or waiting for menus to authenticate to some server i don't care about. I just want to play and it feels like the new consoles forgot that.

It’s funny, back in January I started playing Fallout 3 again for the first time since 2009. The nostalgia wave I felt seeing the 360 menu was intense. Memories of all those nights gaming with gang in my parents basement with halo 3 is something really special

I think you're really onto something here. Another example recently is that I found my older iPhone 4 and dusted it off and played some of the games I had installed on there which are now delisted from the App store and you know what? They were really fun and I can't think of anything I've got installed on my current iPhone 14 that's more impressive looking or a better game. I was having a lot of fun with Infinity Blade 1, 2, and 3.. iPhone ports of Indigo Prophecy, Hyper Light Drifter and Dead Cells that I bought and never played. I even slaped a controller on there for a console like experience. Hell, I even hooked up a lightning port to HDMI to it and outputed the iPhone to my TV with my bluetoothed controller in my hands and was thinking, "This is pretty much a high quality, cheap mini console now".

Nice upload.. I also have a Series X and a 360. My 360 still gets a lot of love and use for the games not backwards compatible. I remember when I first got an Xbox One, and putting the new game disk in and wanting to play it straight away, only to have to wait an hour while it installed / downloaded patches. This reminded me of the Commodore 64 games back in the day that were on cassette tape and sometimes took upwards of half an hour to load!

Completely agree man. The algorithm came through on this one. 360 and PS3 is probably never going to get cheaper than it is now and I think every gamer should get both, then decide which one to use for exclusives. Also, one reason to play on Xbox 360 over Series X is power consumption. The 360 E runs at around 55watts, which is incredible for the performance you get. Cheers for the video dude. Subbed

I was so happy when I found out that Hyperkin were bringing the 360 controller back. Now I have 6 of them and I can't go back to Xbox One/Series controllers. That's how legendary the 360 design was.

Its amazing that looking backwards is never an issue when it comes to our music listening for example, we still love the old albums from 30,40 years ago, but in gaming the graphics seduce the unwary to assume that newer = better game , but the Mister project and the popularity of retro gaming in general is telling a very different story , I too have just reconnected with my xbox360 RGH about to happen, great vid mate , Subd 🙂👍

I've got three 360s for Halo 3, Reach, ODST, Lost Planet 2, L4D 1&2, and Black Ops 1&2 multiplayer (looking for my fourth). Nobody leaves my house thinking jamming a splitscreen game sucked, we have a blast. My little cousins watched me put MW2 (2009) in the tray, boot the game up, they decided they wanted to play BO2 instead, I popped the disk out for B02, it started right up, and they were in awe. They asked me why they don't make more games fully on disks like that and it occurred to me just how anti-consumer the market is now. 9&10 year olds can even see it.

I have 360 which is 15 years old, runs like new. I use it with external harddrive with many games installed, using my 15 years old original controllers, it is flawless. How did they achieve this machine 15-16 years ago, crazy…

I recently got an Xbox series S and was more excited about havinh access to my 360 and OG Xbox games more than I was the new games on gamepass. Conkers bad fur day World at War online Beyond good and evil Castevania SOtN Breakdown Sonic Unleashed to name a few titiles I own. I’ve had more fun playing my older games than the new ones and I think that’s a bit of a problem with the new games not being as good or as engaging.

yeah in reality, Xbox360 was just peak gaming. the sheer amount of hours i spend on my couch gaming alone or with friends... so many memories and not a single one was bad. playing skyrim or fable alone, spending nights with a friend in borderlands 2 or getting my first grip into esports in cod... my gaming experience really peaked on the 360. i definitely will buy a white 360 slim like the one i had for years

The only thing that makes me want to get a newer console is when the games I want won't be for old consoles/ my current console.

The peak of retro gaming is buying one of those powerful minisforum mini pc's, and filling it with emulators and games. You can enjoy basically all console games except ps4/ps5 through emulation. The best part is that it's a PC and Sony is porting their ps4/ps5 games to pc anyways!

I have a fairly modern and decent gaming machine, I had heard about PCSX2 and thought I'd give it a go. I'm 25 I played some ps2 games growing up but not enough for the console to really engrain into my consciousness, however when I replayed ratchet and clank on the emulator in 4k and all the bells and whistles turned on it turned a 20 year old game into one you could release today! I would love to see you make a video looking at ps2 emulation. The xbox 360 emulator xenia is also very very good and maturing nicely. Btw great video I am loving your channel

I'm glad that I found this channel. The Misses and I play the 360 constantly because of the deep, offline co-op campaigns from various titles. I'm still playing NBA 2K7 on there. This was peak gaming.

Crazy that you made this video when you did! My Series X was also collecting dust, so i sold out on ebay and bought a 360 so i could play the backwards compatible games i was missing out on. I did my 360 four money towards a Series X in 2021 but turned it on maybe 15 times total. The 360 is a great console!

Sick intro song. Old games are still a blast to play! Every time my friends and I get together we usually stick with N64 and GameCube games. I’ve had great times playing the Odyssey 2 with my father. When you’re hanging out with your favorite people and the games have a solid gameplay loop, the graphics/novelty really don’t matter. It’s all about fun

Wow didn't expect to see full auto game play at the start, I spent way too much time on that game as a child. Fun fact, if you name a profile magicman and boot up full auto on it, you get all unlocks. Was a lot of fun doing that and playing split screen with my brother growing up.

The reason we want the latest and greatest thing is because we are chasing that new experience feeling. The feeling we got when we first played those 360 games.

7th gen was when the budgets were starting to get big, but before publishers started hyperfixating on monetization, and when projects could still run on passion in addition to profit. Past 7th gen, monetization and overinflated budgets was the name of the game; they dumped more into projects and started pushing monetization harder and harder to justify the high spending. And now, with shareholders being the primary audience instead of customers, a lot of games now are almost monetization machines first, and games second. And requiring internet gives corpos more control.

My era is that weird little 1997 to 2001 "gaga era", one of those eras that don't fit in a conventional 5th or 6th gen. What I mean is the later PS1, Sega Dreamcast, and the Voodoo PC machines. Everything simply worked on physical, with no one hijacking your games. My favorites from that era being Shadowman, the Quake games, Blue Stinger, Half-Life 1, Blood 2, Turok Seeds of Evil, Hexen & Heretic 2, and Kiss Psycho Circus. I've been stuck in that era for a very long time. After the main 6th gen came to be, my types of games went "obsolete" until Nightdive Studios got a hold of a lot of these games.

As a child, I could not stand the idea of pineapple on a pizza!!!! As an adult pepperoni and pineapple is one of my absolute favorites !!!! oh my God it’s so juicy!! Greasy!!! And succulent all at the same time!! Pepperoni and pineapple!! soft and sweet with the hard and greasy/salty at same time it’s just a perfect combination specially if you got the munchies

This is what I love about the Steam Deck, I can play older games on my couch while hanging out with friends, or put a tv show on while re-enjoying the experience of a title I love. I think people strive for community and discussion, and a “new” product creates discussion and excitement, bringing people together, and it makes sense. But the excitement when someone says we’re gonna play some Black Ops 2 Zombies is just as exciting, and brings back the experience of couch togetherness that the xbox 360 thrived in.

I used to be the person that was excited for new consoles, or consoles that I didn't know existed and be able to play or look at games at the retail market that I love. But by the time I got into 2008/2009/2010, it got to the point where video games, for me at least, started to slow down. And while some people had Xbox 360s, and played it a bit on my older brother's console, it got to the point where computers just made me sense to me, where I can listen to music, look at photos, make videos/video edit, as well as play games on it (including Macs to the best of its ability). But it wasn't until Spring Break 2014 that I saw someone playing namco museum vol. 1 for the PS1, that it took me back to the days where I used to just stay up at night and play N64 or PS1 games, even during the weekends or school week. Needless to say, it wouldn't be until a year later in April/May 2015 that I got into emulation. And since then, PC just made more sense to me as my Macbook Pro, while good at some emulation, just wasn't the type of computer I really wanted. I wanted to go back to Windows in 2016, thus when Windows 10 came out, 1709 and 1809 versions are considered my all time favorite versions in the world, despite that people upgraded to 22h2 and windows 11. And by the time that 2024 came around, I decided to go to 22h2 in the process, but never bother to upgrade to Windows 11, because of what they were doing to the computers for the time being. So windows 10 may be my last operating system, but for the video games themselves, the older ones are just more fun to play with because they didn't have the same corporate greed or forced BS storylines that we currently have now. Plus, many of the old video games had the unique charm of "personalization" and letting you do whatever you wanted with what the game provided, where nowadays the choices are very limiting to what we can do with the game now except Indie games and maybe a few great ones here and there, including mods and cheats for single player games themselves.

Still got my N64 which was handed down to me from my older brothers. Still works, it's great!

Old games are legitimately better and its not nostalgia, I didnt play 360 growing up I had a ps2, I bought a 360 recently and started playing 360 games like gears of war a bunch of other s*** and it's all just better

Love this video mate. When I was going up there was a significant jump in tech from generation to generation. I went from c64, to Atari St, to mega drive (genesis) to Ps1. The jump each time was jaw dropping. It was an amazing time. Now the jump between ps4 and 5 for example just doesn't warrant the investment. Where's the massive improvement? Where's the unique games? Where's the hook? I have a load of retro games now and get enjoyment out of them, and I have a Ps4. I've been playing rugby league live 4 all weekend lol. Old but gold on the ps4! Play what you love and enjoy it 😊

If you're not retro gaming, you're doing it wrong. I too have returned to my 360, ps3, and even ps2. And I love having the game on the actual disk. Retro is better period.

I recently dug out my old N64 and worked my way through Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Both AAA titles in their own right for their own time. I think it also taps into an element of entertainment nostalgia. Simpler times. Less concerns. etc etc. Engaging character driven gameplay was much more commonplace and you connected with the titles in some way that you just don't now. Throw in the fact you OWNED the game and had a physical cartridge or disk within arms reach. Not having to pay a monthly or annual subscription. Golden!

Always a good message. We keep looking forward, and keep getting let down. There's so much entertainment still left in "old" tech.

Weird is you can install Xbox 360 game by disc again. Like Xbox one and Xbox series They bring it back

I have two Xbox 360 consoles lying around. One of them is mine, and the other was given to me by a friend who doesn't use it anymore. The one my friend gave me is the black version, similar to the one you have. Recently, I dusted them off and spent some time playing on both of them. It was a lot of fun revisiting my old collection and reminiscing about all the great times I had back then. Both consoles are modded and already have some sick homebrewing installed on them. However, the original Xbox 360 doesn't have any homebrewing yet. Playing games on a 4K screen has really made the Xbox 360 age like fine wine. The games look crisp in 1080p, and they don't have that annoying pixelated look that some Xbox One and PS4 games have. the image quality on the Xbox One is awful, and some games just aren't optimized well for the Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X

I think you make a perfectly reasonable point - a lot of retro games are still really fun. That being said, if you did want to get into the newest games for s reasonable price, the Series S can be found on sale or used for very cheap and game pass instantly gives you access to a large library of gsmes - both old and new. Good video though 👍

This is so true. I bought an Xbox series S because I wanted to play the newest call of duty game at the time and it didn’t run well on the Xbox one but now I’m considering selling it and dusting off my old 360 and just getting some games for it. There are things I love about the newer consoles mainly the fact that any game you want you can just download digitally and play it, and things like game pass really are an incredible value but I also really miss the days when if you decide to play a game all you have to do is slap the disk in and start playing. No updates, no 100gb installs, no requirement to always be online and probably most importantly nobody can take away your physical games by simply flipping a switch and saying you aren’t allowed to play them anymore.

Just watched a couple of your videos. It's great how much passion you put into them, you seem to have a lot of love for gaming, and a lot of respect for your audience too. Thanks for making them! I can see what you mean in this- the 360/etc era had good visuals and lots of good games. A full size console doesn't make sense for me in my current situation, but a few years back I got a Nintendo 3DS, which has been my only console since then. It's been limiting, but this limit has pushed me to try some amazing games I never would have even known about otherwise!

In gaming, this trend is evident with the rise of live service and PvP games. Even genres that traditionally do not fit the live service model are being forced into it, leading to an influx of microtransactions, as observed in titles like Dragon's Dogma. The shift in AAA gaming occurred when large companies began prioritizing shareholder interests over fan satisfaction. This change has contributed to the resurgence of indie games and the renewed interest in retro gaming. Unfortunately, the visionary minds and developers who crafted the iconic games of our childhoods-and helped establish these major companies-are no longer present. Halo 3 came around right at that time when I started moving away from video games. Played casual matchmaking for a summer then moved on. Now turning on halo 3 is crushingly depressing

My PS4 threw a fit because some dust got on the hard drive somewhere (I couldn't see it, but I took it out and blew on everything and that fixed the error) and before I got an chance to troubleshoot the problem completely, I pulled out my original PS2 I have left on the shelf for like 10 years. It not only booted right up, the controllers not only all worked perfectly (the amount of PS3 controllers I have replaced from normal wear, I even already had to replace my PS4 controller once), but I went right back to playing Balder's Gate 2 The Dark Alliance and was hooked for like a week and a half. I'm even excited to replay it. I have been purging my games for a while now and it's only the PS2 games that I just don't want to loose, because they aren't a chore to get through until that one fun part in the middle like the PS4 games are, even with all the jank, they're just fun period.

I found out about the marketplace shutdown about half a year ago. So I decided to buy a new console and recollect the games. I bought in bulk buys and then got collectible games as well. I’ve spent maybe a thousand dollars yet now I have like 6 consoles, 500+ games and DLC and all arcade games worth playing. I’ve been having nothing but fun so far and now that it’s ending- its prices are about to skyrocket for the sake of conservation.

I was just missing the power cable on my Halo Reach xbox 360 from forever ago. Recently got into Clone Hero, and some guitars came with the 360 games. I'm having so much fun with friends playing Guitar Hero with 15 year old equipment, this video was great.
