Make a video about how the Yankees pay pitchers huge contracts to come to NYC, but then the pitcher is injured and only pitches 12 games in 4 seasons

Great video. I'd also consider the case of Jose Trevino who broke his wrist in spring 2023. The yankees decided to completely hide the injury from the public (and roll with trevino as starting catcher) until the pain was unbearable and they had to come clean and shut him down in the summer

The toxicity was ushered in by GMS 3 because of his own personal toxic personality and always making the story about himself. I think the physical injuries are a function of the dysfunctional work environment of Yankee Stadium, and it starts at the top and trickles down. The Yankees were owned by Del Webb and Dan Topping from 1945 through 1964, a period of 20 years in which they won 15 AL flags and 10 WS rings. No one knew or cared about or knew who the owners and as a kid growing up in the 50's and 60's, I can't remember ever hearing a peep out of either of them about anything, never inserting themselves for headlines. They were mostly invisible.

My buddy’s ex works in some capacity for the Yankees (idk if if for the yanks directly or a company contracted by then) anyways her degree is in sports medicine and she has said that they Yankees doctors operate more like workers comp doctors. Their only concern is getting the worker back to work asap regardless if they haven’t fully recovered or they have recovered but haven’t been given the time to get their strength back.

As a physician who's done worker's comp before, and for the past 3 years refused to do so in spite of my employer's demands, this is probably not the best comparison. Worker's comp is the bane of a doctor's existence- the paperwork, documentation, legalities, and incongruent agendas as you alluded between workers and the doctors- makes it miserable. The people who willingly do it, and particularly who specialize in it, are...let's just say not the most competitive or medically oriented. Yankees physicians I must believe are some of the best in sports medicine and medicine in general in the world. So what is going on? I think it has little to do with the doctors or the patients, but moreso with influence from the 3rd party between them which is hiring and paying for these medical staffs and making decisions based on their assessments, in this case the front office. They are somehow getting involved clinically. If these players weren't (let's be honest) mostly overpaid and collecting 10s of millions while sitting out injured, I would expect lawsuits filed against the Yankees organization.
@chriscampbell3417
@chriscampbell3417 2 месяца назад
@@robfreeman5783 I didn’t explain it as detailed as it was to me. My point was that Yankee’s front office (who pay the docs) pressure them to make decisions not based on the medical needs of the player but to make decisions on the needs of the team and getting that player back into actions ASAP even if it’s not in the best interest’s of the players health.

Baseball culture clearly doesn't promote other exercises besides lifting weights, stretching and running it seems. All those UCL and ACL tears indicate a lack of physical movement and not trying to incorporate other exercises into their regiments, some stretching before the game only does so much. Compiled with a lazy position like the DH...not so surprise pikachu these days...these ballplayers also don't even play 162 games anymore.
@canaanlocke4375
@canaanlocke4375 2 месяца назад
We do a lot more than weight lifting and stretching I do band work mobility training plyos I think it’s not really lack of mobility for pitchers it’s mainly just the fact that there throwing 99 and putting so much spin it’s extremely hard to avoid injury
@AbleAnderson
@AbleAnderson 2 месяца назад
This only explains re-injuries, it doesn't explain Stanton coming up lame with a hamstring, or Dominguez straining his UCL. Why do they have so many injuries in the first place? It's uncanny
@the_mini_axe2817
@the_mini_axe2817 2 месяца назад
Probably a trickle down, injury treatment is not taken as seriously, so things like preventative measures, resting before something becomes a problem and warm-ups and cool-downs are taken less seriously, done less carefully and in general less of a focus combine with a culture that pushes things like poor rehab to get back to playing a lot of preventable injuries will occur.
@nicpooper4122

At this point I dont think they enforce anything like stretching or band work to strengthen and preserve the body. Even though trevor baurer is weird I dont recall him getting injured, same with other players that put in the same conditioning work
@louiscypher4186
@louiscypher4186 2 месяца назад
Thing is those could be re-injuries. If the team doesn't take serious injuries seriously, they won't take minor injuries seriously either. You could have Yankees players with very minor injuries, Not serious enough to need ten days off, but serious enough that they need a few days to recover. Instead the yankees send them out and low and behold what should just be a precautionary rest day due to some swelling turns into a blown hamstring.

They make a decent point about high salaried players wanting to get back on the field (or being pressured) to earn their money, but there were also issues with guys like Clint Frazier, and Nick Johnson (while in the minors; he missed the 2000 season with injury after posting a .345/.525/.548 line at AA).

They need to hire an independent medical staff, including sport psychologists and also people with sports management/business experience, to interview players from the past 10 years to figure this out. Something certainly is wrong. As the video implies it seems a combination of pressure/goals from the front office as well as players' mindsets and approach to training and health specifically in the NYY system. All the success of the 1990s teams and the money and spotlight of playing in NY comes with some baggage. After 15+ years of this it can't just be bad luck.

*The thumbnail makes no sense. Luis Severino is no longer on the team.* *The Yankees issue(s) since winning the World Series in 2009 has been lack of emphasis and importance of dependable productive reliable left-handed hitters and switch hitters in the everyday lineup. For example, starting 7 right-handed hitters against Verlander in Game 1 of the ALCS in 2022. Inexcusable. However, that/those issue(s) have been resolved this year.*

As far as if this is the organization or player issue, it's likely both. There's probably some push from the organization as well as some stepping aside and allowing players to play when their hurt. There is, also, likely a push from the athletes, themselves, to get back out there. Athletes are a different breed. We don't like to be sidelined. It kills us, mentally and emotionally. Missing a game or two is one thing, but missing months.... want to talk about some unpleasant people to be around? Lol. And, if allowed, we will play with broken bones and our eyes popping out of our sockets if we are sitting around long enough. It's not just the Yankees though. Mets were infamously making Pedro Martinez pitch through injuries and I watched them allow Pete Alonso to rush back and play with an all but broken hand last year. The Rays have a similar issue, same with the Rangers... it's a league problem that's really been around for a long time. Training and recovery practices, and even in-game practices are definitely more advanced than they were when I was younger, but part of me wonders if it is actually better. For example, we're limiting pitch counts, but everyone is throwing harder, maybe, for some, too hard. I don't know if this is all related, I'm speculating. Given what I'm seeing, I'm inferring that the problem is across the league plaguing all teams and players caused by all teams and players. It would not surprise me if Rizzo was like "yeah... I'm a little foggy, but I'm good" nor would it surprise me if the medical team was just incompetent in their evaluation. I'm old enough now to know that it's all well and good when you're young and full of piss and vinegar, but the body keeps receipts. You get up on the mound one day and the second you lift your leg, your body is like "yeah.... remember that time...?"

Getting rid of the mound and having the pitchers throw off a flat ground would have the duality of reducing velocity as well as reducing some of the torque or shearing of the pitchers arm.Very possibly leading to less injuries. At the same time is would also likely enhance a pitchers command. Worth a consideration.
