Two of the best things about Los Angeles: The weather and Norman’s Rare Guitars.

I am so glad I started playing guitar in October last year. I was in Japan, where my wife is from, had been going back and forth to home in Los Angeles, and although this was going to be the final, permanent move, I was going to be staying in an Airbnb at first and thought about whether I should bring the guitar or buy a better one when I got there. I had delayed this final move a few times for various reasons, and figured I would wait a couple more months to take care of things in Japan first. At this point I didn’t even have a phone in Japan, because I thought I didn’t need it, but I had a phone in Los Angeles of course. When that first case of COVID-19 appeared at LAX and then a local nursing home in January, I thought I better wait until April, like it would be under control by then because that’s what happened with SARS and MERS. In the meantime, I could do some work in Japan and keep learning guitar uninterrupted. And you know the rest of the situation. At one point, my country was literally on fire, the protests, the election, just plain human stupidity as people decided the pandemic was the perfect time for large, unprotected gatherings. It became so that not only wouldn’t there be any work in Los Angeles, but it was literally too dangerous. Better to just stay in Japan longer ... and continue learning guitar. There hasn’t been any work in Japan either, but I was in a fortunate position; I had (have) ‘enough’ money and a place to live as long as I need. Japan is also very safe in terms of that people aren’t practically trying to spread the virus and therefore there has been no great outbreak; the ‘shutdown’ was only about six weeks long and things have been fairly normal except of course for us gig workers, including me over the past several years. I’m originally a sax player, and a Berklee College of Music alumni, so you can imagine I’ve been picking up guitar very quickly, practicing every day, not skipping past the tedious stuff like scales. Because of the pandemic, I don’t have much else to do, so of course I’m improving very quickly. Besides, I love it! I describe myself as a ‘born again musician.’ When I get home, finally, in 2021 when we’re all vaccinated and can rebuild the country, I’m going to make two pilgrimages: Fender in Corona and of course Norman’s Rare Guitars. If Norm is there, I want to get a picture with him. I was also going to get my next guitar directly from Fender, but now I think I’ll get it at Norman’s if I can afford something decent-a Fender Stratocaster.

You got that right. I started playing guitar in October 2019. Without it, I probably would have gone nuts.

What a great song. I just downloaded it from Amazon. Thumps up for the idea recording this song with such extraordinary musicians to support the homeless. Just a word to Norman as a lead singer: Really outstanding! Keep it up, Norman! I hope, there is a chance for a complete album! Waiting for it... Frank (great fan of all the videos from Norman's Rare Guitars) With greeting from Germany. Take care and stay healthy!

What a fun song. It must have been a blast recording it and all for a good cause. Just think of all the money that could be raised for the Midnight Mission if every subscriber purchased the song. Surely we can all afford $.99.
