This 2.5 hour walk in the Pennines starts in the village of Malham and heads out to Janet's Foss. A lovely waterfall in the woods. Legend has it that the queen of the fairies lives behind the curtain of water.
On to Gordale Scar via the butty van for a homemade sausage roll, Gordale Scar is a hidden gorge containing another waterfall in the cathedral like gorge dug out by successive ice ages.
The third wonder is the limestone pavement at Malham Cove made up of clints (limestone blocks) and grykes (the gaps between). This is formed by glacial action and use to be a waterfall for glacial runoff. Water last cascaded over the edge as late as the 19th century. Now, the water finds its way through the dissolved gaps between the limestone before reaching the edge to re-emerge from the rock in the cove below.
