The Zelda movie will be based on Ocarina of Time?!

Many have disputed if the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie will be based on a specific game, an original story, or an amalgamation of all of the games! Today, I'd like to tell you why I think it'll be based on Ocarina of Time!

SS is actually a very cinematic game and the lack of voice acting hurts the game a lot.

I really hope they start with OoT, then proceed with others.... because, like you said, OoT established a lot of the foundation of the series, especially towards lore and story... and it's a simple, yet interesting 3 acts structure Hero's Journey. It's the perfect starting point to bring in new fans and introduce them to that universe. Of course it would need to be adapted a bit. First Act (Courage): Starts with young Link, finding out the Deku tree dies. He goes on his Quest to get the Triforce for Zelda, who doesn't trust her father's new ally Ganondorf, and enlist the help of the Zoras and Gorons, it ends with him pulling the Master Sword, and Ganondorf invading the sacred realm. Second Act (Wisdom): Starts with Adult Link waking up in the Chamber of Sages. Rauru and Sheik tell him they need to find allies to overthrow Ganondorf. He goes back to recruit the sages he met as a kid and bring them with him. It ends with Link, Sheik and the newly recruited sages getting attacked by Ganondorf and his people in Kakariko Village and the village gets burned down... Sheik is revealed to be Zelda and kidnapped by Ganondorf and Link is left for dead. Third Act (Power): Link wakes up, and meets with Impa, she reveals what she knows about Ganondorf and the Gerudo, Link travels to the desert, meets Nabooru and convince her to join them by destroying the witches. All the sages and their respective people storm Ganon's Castle, Link confronts Ganondorf, who takes the Triforce pieces from him and Zelda, uses them to transform into Ganon, and Link, Zelda and the sages seal him away in the Sacred Realm with the Power of friendship.

I feel like the Young Link sections of Ocarina of Time could be a movie in and of itself. It could end on a cliffhanger of Ganondorf taking over Hyrule, Zelda and Impa on the run, and Link getting sealed inside the Sacred Realm. Personally I’d start with Skyward Sword to get the Franchise off the ground and THEN do Ocarina of Time.

I believe BotW and a possible sequel featuring tears of the kingdom are also on the table, but Ocarina of Time combined the refinement of 1, 2 and 3 and the Twin Peaks feeling of LA and is a perfect translation of these games in 3D. It is simply iconic and a masterpiece. Playing it today on N64 or 3DS, doesn’t feel dated, besides the graphics. It feels timeless. I have been completing this game once a year since 1998. Touched master mode once, found it kinda trashy and never looked back 😂😂

Convenient, as my reaction to Peach’s portrayal in the Illumination Mario movie appearing to be based on her from the comic “Super Mario Adventures” made me go; “What’s next? Is Zelda’s alter-ego of Sheik gonna be a prominent thing in the Zelda movie?”. I feel like that’s what a Hollywood writer would do to give Zelda an excuse to be a part of the potential action sequences too & be more than just a damsel or magical support.

That's true-if I were a Hollywood writer I'd probably do the same. It's a lot easier, after all, to write a highly-trained ninja into action scenes rather than a princess who usually sits back and watches Link do her dirty work :P I hope that she'll have at least a LITTLE role as a princess C:

it's true it's eazier to do a oot movie since botw and totk's story function with memorys, however i do prefered botw and totk story it would've be great to see it on big screen

Honestly im ok with Ocarina of Time. Not just cus its an amazing game but i definitely think the story would be much simpler to tell.

That's very true! If they went with something like Breath of the Wild, they'd have to add a lot and even change some things to make it move along more smoothly.

It's very possible that's the direction Nintendo will want to take the film, since that's basically what they did with Mario Bros..

They said a combination of multiple games, so I think it should be based on Link to the Past and Zelda 1. Maybe have flashbacks of Ocarina, with a prequel based on those events. Have either a sequel or animated series based on the Oracle games, and a series based on Link's Awakening.

Oooooooh… Very good point :D Thanks for this comment! I’m sorry if I sound like I’m arguing, but it’s still possible that the majority of the movie will be based on Ocarina of Time, but honestly I dunno. We’ll just have to keep our ears peeled and our eyes open and see what ol’ pop Nintendo has in store for us :D!

There are a lot of highly regarded and most recognizable games with status that don’t have movies. As for the interview, Aonuma was answering about a game not a film. Even then, Nintendo doesnt always or even usually base their creative decisions on their biggest triumphs.

Ocarina if Time already has Zelda accompanying you. Sheik. Sure, sheik could stand to have a little more screen time, as some of the things Sheik does are off screen.
