Hi Doug and thanks for watching. It was a long process to find a new extruder to run the lines for us...and get them right. The lines are much more complicated than you'd think and getting the diameter, texture, durability, and other characteristics like memory and pliability just right, took over 6 months...and that was working with a tried and true recipe.
Thank you! We ship internationally so they can be ordered from our website www.zentenkara.com. We do have a European distributor- Nordic Fly Fishing Distribution but I am not certain all areas he covers or if that would be no easier than direct from our online store
WoW, that line looks super, I think I'm gonna have to place an order pretty soon though 😀 can we see that line in action somewhere in a video? Thanks Karin
Our RU-vid Channel has a few videos of the line but here's a link to a specific little demo ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SPDnfgrjgWs.html
cant wait to give these a go! What lengths will you make these in? recently I've been using lines ranging from 10'-25' and would love some longer lines for stealthy fishing, wider bodies of water or larger fish!
Karin, I’m 78 and new to tenkara, and this line intrigues me because my tired old eyes and arthritic hands HATE tying knots. I have a 12’ rod and these days mainly fish small to medium sized ponds for panfish and small bass. Would you go with an 11’ or 12.5’ line for this kind of fishing, assuming a leader length of 7 to 9 feet? Thanks…
Hi Larry. I hate tying knots too. The smaller the tippet, the harder it is. Maybe that's why I enjoy saltwater so much - the tippet, leader and flies are easier to manage because they are BIGGER! Lol! I think either the 11 or 12.5ft would work - not a big difference between the two. I tend to use longer lines, but shorter lines are easier to land fish on. The foot and a half difference can be made up with tippet. If distance is not an issue and the pond isn't big it might be easier to go with 11. Personally I would fish the 12.5ft. I like a bit more line to get out further.
Thanks...and Yes! You were looking at our new Fusion Lines that come in 3 lengths: 15ft, 20ft and 25ft. Click on All Purpose/Floating Lines and you will see that they come in 6 lengths from 7' up to 22
Our lines, spool and fly boxes are made in the USA. Our rods are designed in the USA and produced for us overseas. We did attempt a number of years ago to bring all production home. We worked with a very reputable name in the industry and rolled blanks on the only set of tenkara mandrels on US soil. They struggled with the different technology to roll a tenkara blank. After aseveral years we were very close to a prototype that was near completion/finality. Problem was the price point. The market would not support where our numbers fell. We eventually abandoned the "American Rod Project" You can read about it in our Zen Blog.
Hi Karen, My name is Joe. I was looking for the lines that are better than furled and fluorocarbon level lines. Could you briefly explain how your new lines are different from the traditional fly lines? I would love to try your new lines. Thanks.
Hi Joe, thanks for connecting. What you want are our All Purpose/Floating Tenkara Lines. These lines are a proprietary design and material made specifically for use, for tenkara rods. They are not pieced together sections of fly line and backing. They are a different material than regular fly lines and are much lighter and delicate than regular fly line. Our All Purpose/Floating Lines have a no stretch, 18lb test inner core that is then coated with ultrathin layer than gives the line it's flotant quality. Is is a very complex process and the extrusion is run slowly in order to work the coating into the fibers before it hit a water bath that cools and seals it. Last year we had to have a new company produce the lines for us. It has taken them 7 months to get it right - and this is one of the top extruders in the world! Our lines are supple, delicate, lay out flat, float and can be cast through wind. The lines have built-in connect loops and are easy vis with an 8" section of hi-vis at the end. The line is designed to accommodate a straight tippet connection onto ta tippet ring and also allows you to do a loop-to-loop connection on a smaller connection loop on the end. The lines are color codes according to their length, so you know the length of your line just by looking at the colored tag end on the connection loop. They are very well thought out and perform extremely well. Customers find them a true pleasure to cast. Our newest Fusion Line Series are also floating lines but are designed for longer casting and non-traditional tenkara fishing. They are more similar to regular fly line but are grain weight matched for tenkara rods and have built in welded connection loops. Again, these are our own unique design and novel product. They are meant to be fished more like a regular rod and reel setup. So the All Purpose/Floating Tenkara Line and the new Fusion Line Series are two very different types of tenkara lines from anything on the market. Hope that answered your question. Always happy to help.
