Tenkara fly fishing is an ancient Japanese method for catching trout. Introduced into the the U.S. around 2009 - tenkara has become one of the fastest growing segments of fly fishing today. In this video, we test how traditional furled trout leaders can substitute for the supple tenkara fly line used today.
Rod: TenkaraUSA Iwana
Furles Lines tested: Trout T-4 Furled leader and the F-C Furled Streamer Leader from Feather-Craft Fly Fishing.
The result: I think I found a great new substitute for traditional Tenkara furled fly lines. I like the the ability of the traditional trout furled leaders performed better than the softer, more supple tenkara fly lines. The advantage is of the traditional trout furled leaders is weight and stiffness - the result being that the fly lands more naturally on the water and less impact for reasonable wind conditions.
