This is a well known Style of Zila Khan's Sufi Singing. Her audiences are always enthralled while she combines Classical compositions matching with Sufi lyrics. An extraordinary artist who has extensive training by her legendary father Ustad Vilayat Khan, so it comes naturally to her to match every Sufi lyrics with classical compositions from her vast database and Taleem. Her research is well known in the echelons of the music world.
In this Lec-Dem video clip UstadMa Zila Khan demonstrates her blending of Raag Khamaaj Classical compositions which match the Ras / flavour, poetry and subject of the sufi composition, selecting the classical compositions with the same Poetry / Lyrics and Raag from her long standing Classical repertoire.
She compiles here the popular Sufi kalaam 'Aaj Rang Hai' sung with classical composition 'Aaj Rangeeli Rasiya', taught to her by her father and is ©Zila Khan. (Next video Part 4 has more Khamaaj compositions).
All these innovations also differentiates UstadMa Zila's concerts from other Sufi singers. This also differentiates her Sufi singing from the qawwali style of performance.
