"The Zombie Hunter" Brian Miller Interrogation

It took three decades, but the heinous, murderous acts of Bryan Patrick Miller - aka the Arizona “Zombie Hunter” finally caught up with him. And they cost him his life.
An Arizona superior court judge sentenced Miller, 50, to death for the brutal, bloody first-degree knife murders of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas, 17. Both murders took place in the early 1990s along the metro Phoenix canal system as the women were biking there. Miller also SAing both women, possibly as they were dying or dead.
“The defendant did not just murder them. He brutalized them. And he evaded capture for over 20 years,” Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Suzanne Cohen was quoted as saying, explaining why she condemned Miller to die, rather than serve life in prison for the “Arizona Canal Killings.”
“There is no question that what the defendant did deserves the death penalty,” Cohen said.
Brosso, a 22-year-old from Cumberland County who relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, was stabbed and beheaded in Nov. 1992 while on a pre-birthday celebration ride on her newly tuned-up purple mountain bike. She was a 1989 graduate of Cedar Cliff High School - and Miller’s first victim.
Miller’s knife attack was so frenzied, Brosso was nearly cut in half at the waist, according to forensic testimony. The exact number of stab wounds couldn’t be calculated; there were just too many.
Her body was discovered along the canal trail the next morning. Brosso’s head would not be found for 11 more days. It was located in a grate in the canal about a mile and a half away from where her body was found.
Ten months later another brutally stabbed female was found floating in the canal. This time it was a 17-year-old girl who was supposed to be home sick from school. Instead, Melanie Bernas went out for a bike ride along the canal in September 1993, only to encounter Miller.
Bernas suffered a deep stab wound to her back. Just like Brosso, the fatal knife plunge severed Bernas’ aorta and pierced her lung. Unlike Brosso, a cross was carved into Bernas’ chest, along with the initials “WSC.” The meaning of the initials was never determined.
Many more graphic details of both murders were chronicled by police, pathologists and forensic experts who testified at the trial.
The unsolved killings in the fall of 1992 and 1993 had Phoenix on edge as the desert city braced for the bloody reign of a brutal serial killer. Instead, the killings stopped. The sensational case grew cold for 22 years.
Then in January 2015, a DNA breakthrough finally linked the semen found at both murder scenes to Miller.
Miller was known as the “Zombie Hunter” for the converted police car that was parked in his driveway. Miller would splatter the old black-and-white police cruiser with fake blood, much to the delight of trick-or-treating neighborhood kids.
The car remained in his driveway right up until the day a breakthrough DNA match led to Miller’s 2015 arrest, some 22 years after his alleged crimes. Detectives used a fake job interview to lure Miller. They obtained his DNA from the lip of a beverage container he drank from during the ruse interview.
When the tests came back, they had their killer.

Loved the intro. Actually a piece of good evidence was, at the start how they were saying she was last seen riding her bike and how it was never found. Then in the interview the detective asks what he’s into and when he said “I am really into bicycles. I collect them” my heart just dropped. Wonder if they found her bike within his collection.

So many of us growing up did not have a perfect childhood. Some of us even had a yucky childhood, but you don’t see us dismembering people. I’m so tired of these not guilty by insanity because my daddy spanked me when I was a kid defenses.
@vanessamw1140
@vanessamw1140 9 месяцев назад
I don't mind if it's used when it's true...our individual genetics determine a lot of how we turn out after experiencing a traumatic childhood, but it's rare that it causes actual insanity and it seems like the insanity defense is used constantly. It fails most of the time, thankfully. But I'm with you as far as being sick of seeing these monsters use their alleged bad childhoods as a defense for their hideous crimes. Aside from the crime itself causing unmeasurable pain for so many people, it's also a slap in the face of others who suffered during childhood but grew up to be law abiding, as well as to those who really did lose their minds- and their loved ones.
@MomentsInTrading
@MomentsInTrading 9 месяцев назад
I think most of the time insanity is used as a defense, it’s just a ‘Hail Mary’ shot. In a trial, the Defense has to say something. If there is really a lot of evidence, and no real defense, the defense attorney can’t just throw up his arms and say, “Sorry, we got nothin’ “ 😂 Saying insanity is often their best chance, even if it is a major long shot it will work. --- My personal feeling is that insanity shouldn’t be allowed as a Defense. Unless the person has something like Down Syndrome or are very mentally challenged, I don’t think it should be a legal “excuse” or defense.

@Niko-xz5lk

It's absolutely not an excuse, and you're absolutely right that many people are abused and don't go on to become a murderer or serial killer. However, it doesn't change the fact that some children who are severely abused can develop a form of personality disorder like APD - or pscyhopathy as it's commonly known. There are individuals who are at least somewhat vulnerable to becoming disordered in this way. We can't say why because it's not fully understood, but we know that severe childhood abuse is overwhelmingly present in people with APD. As for the insanity element, I would also agree with you. Personality disorder isn't mental illness in the traditional sense, and these people don't meet the criteria for insanity.
@AlexAndra-iy5zu
@AlexAndra-iy5zu 9 месяцев назад
@@Niko-xz5lk so far there is only one case I recognize as a tragedy by PPS and that is Andrea Yates. She truly was a Person who needed help on so many levels. There is so much more to the story than the courts allowed. Guilty by insanity needs to be buckled down as far as the law is concerned. Look at Leticia Stauch’s case. There never should have been an opportunity for her to plea this case

It’s remarkable how often people like Brian will say “I didn’t even know their names” as though that has anything to do with what happened. It’s like when they try to say they “accidentally lied” because they were “tired”. You don’t need to know someone’s names to have done something horrible to them and your level of energy has no effect on the ability to be truthful.

Didn't he also kill another girl in like 2015, and kidnapped a fourth one who got away? That's how he got on the radar. He says he values sex, and you dont do it until marriage, or i guess until you stab and decapitate an innocent woman or two.

I'm surprised the cop didn't ask him what he liked to do during school recess and the type of pajamas he wore to bed. Holy cow. Relevant questions start around 40:00.

That guy is 50 years old? When i heard there was killings in the early 90s and then they showed this guy i couldnt figure out how he was possibly old enough. Pretty wild because he looks to be in his 30s at most.

I like this format the best for interrogation video's. Introduction is local News Segments on the case, providing us the background, Than after that, the entire interrogation is show unedited with ZERO narrator interrupting every 5 minutes explaining the Reid Technique. Rottweiler and CC/CCC are the best interrogation channels on YT for me. I WONT listen to chopped up interrogations with an annoying narrator using an A.I. fake deep voice, i have a few brain 🧠 cells working, i dont need a narrator explaining something as i watch it 😊

It's not often interrogations are performed by a single detective. I have noticed that interrogations in Canada are usually only one investigator. I guess it's probably always good to have a second set of eyes and ears to pick up on something you might have missed, but am not a fan of the good/Bad cop approach.

My favorite part of an interrogation is when the cop gives the perp a summary of all the things (lies) they have told in list form. Hits a lil different i think, like u can see their realization that they screwed in real time 1:01:22 Also, does it say anywhere how they figured out it was him?

You can make people admit they did things that they didn't, just to end mistreatment/torture/brainwashing. I understand your frustration, I really do. However, there's a risk that if it's allowed to treat suspects harsher, innocent people would get hurt. And I know his DNA was there, and they were quite sure he did it, but the rules have to be universal because the next case may not be as obvious and how do you decide that in their situation?

Mennonite, Mormon,Christian scientists, all of these religions scare the bejesus out of me. How does one convince themselves to believe in this stuff. I know church leaders have their own agenda, but not going to a doctor because that’s insulting god seems a bit hard to swallow. Believe me I know! I often wonder just how people convince themselves of nonsense, like trump supporters….
