Since I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, "Time Of The Season" is also where the term 'Who's your daddy?' originated.

Great album! Phenomenal singing. The most underrated band from the 60's. She's Not there, and Tell Her No, not on this album, are two of my favorite songs from that era.

I loved Changes. If they had a bigger budget they really could have added to it. The lyrics and tune are mournful and the harmonies really "sent" me.

Thanks for reviewing this guys. Such an underappreciated band...they were great. I will also throw in the Beach Boys into that blender for the complex and layered harmonies. My fave tracks are pretty much the same as yours, Time of the Season, Care of Cell 44, Brief Candles, This will be our year. Really aren't any tracks I dislike, although some aren't as strong. But not a single track I need to skip on this one. They have some other great songs too from their other album (that's right...only 2 albums...much like Badfinger, they are a "what could have been" band.

Another great review! I know only two tracks from the album, but I'd be astonished if anything else they ever did beats their 1964 single, "She's Not There". Way, way ahead of its time and well worth 2:26 of your life if you haven't heard it.

Their first two albums were really quite good. She's Not There was a big hit and a great song as was Tell Her No. 'Absolutely The Best' by The Zombies is a great compilation - heck it's pretty well most of their songs. Nice review, as always.

Two things I don't know...how I've not come to watch this review until now and how on Earth I still don't own/haven't heard this album. Really only know the 'big 3' Zombies tunes despite having seen Argent with, erm Argent, and Colin Blunstone solo several times (am actually much more familiar with his solo stuff, and of course his Alan Parsons Project contributions). Colin still has an incredible voice, as well as being a humble and funny guy (hey, takes one to know one...he said humbly...!) - one of his many great stories was when he was flown to the states to re-record Time of the Season for some jingle or other, can't remember what the company was but they insisted their name be sung in an American accent, which didn't exactly mesh with the idea of getting the original, very British singer over to do it...he just said sod it and took the money and ran!

I heard of the Zombies and familiar with just a few of their songs, but I'm not familiar with this album. I love the music of the 1960''s, my favorite decade for music. The music of that time period was so experimental and expressive and melodic. Interesting choice by you guys for an album review. Shawn, I like the footage and facts you included. That is cool that they used the same Mellotron ( Is that the correct spelling of the word) ? as John Lennon from Sgt. Pepper sessions. That is crazy that they split right after this album. It sounds like you both gave am honest and straight forward review of each track. You mentioned that there are some Beatles influences. The only song on here that I know is Time Of The Season, which in my opinion is one of the classic songs of the 1960's. It also has a psychedelic cover. Shawn and Trey, you both gave this album a high rating. I would like to try and give this album a listen.

Hey Guys. Nice job with your comments about this somewhat obscure album. Too bad The Zombies were not appreciated more back in the day. You might check out their very first US album “ The Zombies”. The album is known for “Tell Her No” and “She’s not there” but some other tunes worth reviewing are “Summertime”, and “Sometimes”. Thanks!

I'm old enough to remember the Zombies for there top 40 hits like Tell Her No and She's Not There, but I didn't discover this album until the late 1980's when it was finally starting to receive recognition. And you guys were spot on with your review and ratings, in fact I may rate it higher. A true classic from the late 60's. On a side not the Zombies got back together years later and did live tours performing the entire album on stage.

When a young teenager Rod Argent wanted to be singer, he roped in two boys from the same year in his school, drummer Hugh Grundy and guitarist Paul Atkinson. A neighbour of the same age who went to a different school, Paul Arnold, was also invited to play bass, and at his school, Arnold was aware that the boy who sat behind him in school, Colin Blunstone, had a guitar, so invited him too. At the rehearsal, during a break, Argent started playing a piano in the room, and Blunstone told him he ought to play it in the band. Argent said no, that "it's all about guitar bands these days". During another break, Blunstone was playing his guitar and singing to himself, and Argent heard him and said that he would play keyboards, if Blunstone took lead vocals. Until that point, Blunstone didn't know he could sing, and the only vocal training he eventually had was to learn how not to damage his voice as he got older. Could you imagine this band with Argent on lead vocals, no keyboards, and Blunstone on rhythm guitar? By the way, Paul Arnold also came up with the band name, but left after a short time because he decided he wanted to be a Doctor (USA=physician). He was replaced by Chris White and that was the line-up when they started to get work and eventually became famous!

It's been a while since I've heard this one, but 'Time of the Season' would be enough to make this an all-time psychedelic classic on it's own, yes? Also, if I remember right the Zombies DID get a UK Hit - albeit only No 12, as opposed to No 2 in the States - with 'She's Not There' back in 1964, so they weren't completely without some minor honour in their own land, yes? (See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_2hXBf1DakE.html if you haven't heard the latter before...you might be more familiar with the Santana cover version, though...see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K4jdiJA2TtQ.html for that one, yes?)

@@ReactionsToTheClassics The 1980s group Berlin also recorded and released their biggest hit, "Take My Breath Away" (from the TOP GUN soundtrack) shortly before the group ended. It's odd how in a few cases through the history of pop/rock groups, a group disbands just after they enjoy their biggest success. I think WHAM! went out like that too...they were at a commercial and popular peak when George and Andrew went their separate ways.
