Ren (back on 74/message in a bottle) retake is a video he shot a few months ago, some of his best singing/harmonizing and two beautiful back-up singers.
I disagree about it being better, it's the one acoustic version of one of his songs I had to just stop watching. Love all his other acoustic versions of his stuff, but Genesis on acoustic just doesn't do it for me. It's partly the 'Na Na Na Na Nee Nee' bit that put me off.
Ren's proper rapping tends to be more like this, where it is more about wordplay rather than telling a story. When he is having fun with words he is more naughty/cheeky, like he is in the 3 "Love Music" songs where he really is just doing it to make himself laugh.
Should do his live version of this. It’s even better than this. Saying he better at singing or musician. Is just a fact. But I appreciate his rap. Just for his pen. He is a masterful writer.
lyrically, this is my favorite from Ren, and you nailed it perfectly on the head. it's his origin story about turning his woes into his strength. and yeah, that line has more to it. Another meaning of pupil is student. Pupils dilate in the dark, becomes students grow from conflict, combine it with the next line, people die late in the dark, and you get the same message as the end of Hi Ren, Victims and Students. "time is the order, the lesson... a curse _AND_ a blessing, .. confined in the eye of [your] mind." My favorite bit that no one ever points out is the call back at the end, when he references the cake (his woes) from the beginning with the line, 'take my piece of the pie, and then feed and unwind', or to translate, he feeds on his struggles, and is stronger because of them, and he finds solace in that. Bravo, i've watched prolly 95% of the reactions to this, and being generous, you might be only the third person to catch it's meaning, so cheers!
Really appreciate this breakdown and I agree and think you're spot-on. The man is good at weaving and flowing messages both within the same song and within other songs. Good callout. Ayyyeee! I always love when I know I'm gettin' it right and I'm hearing it straight from the source, you all. So thanks for that.
Love how respectful and thoughtful you are when you react to Ren. We all have different tastes, and not everything is going to be universally liked, but you respect the music and the work and the message and havent heard you hate on anyone for liking things you don’t. cheers!
And I never will. :) Thank you for calling that out and appreciating that. I always try, my best anyway, to be intentional so it's always nice when it's caught.
Pacific NW chiming in. My #1 favorite song of Ren’s is his collab with Chinchilla: How To Be Me (the live acoustic version). Have you done any The Big Push yet? My #1 of theirs is Sweet Little Lady. They do two versions: an official studio recorded music video and a live acoustic version. Both are great, but showcase the band very differently, so a back to back on those two is ideal. Good to hear you finding one of his raps that suits you!
I haven't done a single Big Push song yet as I'm going to save that for a long live react/stream we do. Just waiting until I have the proper free time and can coordinate with people's schedules to do it. Timezones make everything difficult ha.
Glad you liked it. I think this one is my favourite song of his. You should check out the live version, it's even better. Thanks for the breakdown of the Genesis and Noah lines, I struggled to understand them before.
I should do more breakdown of the actual lyrics AS WELL as continue just voicing my personal opinion of the songs in the discussion part of my reactions. I appreciate you staying till the end and listening. :)
I also think that this is one of the best Ren's raps, together with Power. Murderer is another amazing one, though, the first verse is pure fire. check out Murderer, let's see what you think about it. cheers from Brazil!
Ha, I tell people all the time this stuff takes work and coordination. I'm glad you appreciate it. Just to make sure I understand, by levels you mean both the mix of my voice volume and the song volume? How have other people do it that you don't like?
Love your reaction as always 😍 Funny that you said it, Ready for you is also my favorite Ren's singing song and Genesis is also my favorite Ren's rap song 😂 So, listen to Back in 74/Message in a bottle Retake ... You'll hear him sing ! Just amazing ! Two black sisters for the background vocals, Kay on the bass and Ren playing guitar and singing, simply wonderful ! I'm sure you're gonna love it ! Hope to see you react to this one soon 🤞 Thanks 😘
I recommend the Fred Again mashup! That is a recent one and is so good. All singing. I am curious whether you'd like Illest of Our Time, which is one of his rap songs.
This is one of my favorites, but doesn't beat "Ocean," "Power," "Seven Sins," or "Illest of Our Time." A bunch of your Ren playlist is hidden, so I'm not sure if you've heard "Illest..." yet, but the lyricism is really great - especially the last half - if you dig a little. You might not like his rapping as much, but I love the doubles/word play as well as his authentic despair over his brain damage and seeking of answers. Great writing.
It shouldn't be hidden? It's all public and ready for you all to view. I'll double-check just to be sure, but yeah all the playlists are public. I'll have to listen to a couple of those, though I do have Power and Ocean already up on the channel. Go search and check 'em out, and leave a comment letting me know what you think. :) Yeah, that's why I always make the clear distinction between my like of the rapping voice and the like of his writing. Genesis, much like Power, grabbed both for me. I like that cohesiveness.
Penitence ft Molly McKenna is so fire and underrated. Almost no reactions to it. Its old and more of a singing/spoken word but i love it. Same with Oh my Woman.
Hi from Scotland, awesome to see someone else joining the Ren ranks if you wanna hear Ren sing then chalk outlines is one you don't wanna miss and back on 74 is about as smooth as you get, much love buddy keep on keeping on.
I have both of those already. :) Check the Ren Playlist and also just search my channel if you're ever curious if I've done a react. Hope you like 'em and comment when you watch!
Nice....you deffo couldn't hide your enjoyment there lol. Worth checking out the acoustic versions of both this and The Hunger,,,,also illest Of Our Time is amongst his best rapping imho
If you like Ren singing you should react to his recent retake on Back on 74/Message in a bottle. Great singing and a masterful arrangement (covers) were the three different parts (short rap part is the third part, that is his own, but it's short) is woven so well together.
The acoustic and also drum and bass versions of this song actually hit totally different. The acoustic version is my favorite. Try out the song 'everybody drops'.
Love your honest opinion on ren , I prefer his singing voice to , I think with ren , his brain doesn't stop so the only way to say everything is through rap because he can just roll out line after line , he's waited along time to get the recognition he's deserved and now that build up is pouring out ,that's just my opinion, I'm with you when you said ready for you is your favourite when I first heard it "BUT" , the deeper you go the harder it is to pick you favourite( trust me) he's bringing another album out and it's not rap , I get why you reacted to nas half time video because it's a nas retake , but if you like singing ren listen to the 2 track before it , fred mash up and back to 74 and his newest mackay a piano instrumental , sorry this is so long but lastly , the way ren is putting out tracks you should forgot about reacting to rens older stuff on here and listen to it in your own time cos there's no way you will keep up lol, aw, and I love the falling in reverse reactions to , not sure if you have reacted to Chris Stapleton or Dermot Kennedy at all but they are brilliant to , ok I'm finished , lol, stay safe my friend
Haha this wasn't too long (I get longer, trust me haha) and I appreciate you taking the time to type it out. :) And if I don't react to his old stuff, people would murder me haha I have to keep up with everything as best I can, but I do what I can! It's been fine so far, I think haha. I haven't listened to them yet, or at least I haven't reacted, but we should definitely do that sometime. Give it time. :)
I think a big thing about Rens sound thats kinda overlooked is that his singing impacts his rapping in a way that rappers who dont sing cant manage................. I think his wide singing range gives him more sonic options when rapping I think I mean to say...................
If you like Ren singing then check out some of his earlier songs like Fire or Runaway. These are on the freckled angels album and are a bit different. Not as polished as some of his music and not often reacted to but this makes it even better because you hear the raw talent
I hear him saying "Eh eh not not me me". He battling against su!cidal thoughts, but he fights those thoughts. I'm happy he keeps those thoughts at bay.
Had a wee look through your Ren reactions so far. I never spotted his retake of Fatboy Slim's 'Right Here, Right Now.' I reckon you'll like his rapping in that also.
@@TheBlackSpeed Haha, I'm getting old, but the first time I heard that jam was via the oldschool Street Sounds compilations that came out back when I was a kid. I still got all my vinyl collection and flicking through, it was on Electro 6. I was ten years old. :)
You say you don't care as much for his rap but you haven't heard sooooo many of his raps. From what I see you've only heard a couple of his them. You really need to hear Illest of Our Time, Wicked Ways, Lost All Faith, Loco, Seven Sins, Down On the Beat, What You Want (a tribute to the Beastie Boys), and I'm Losing It. Peace and Love. P.S. You need to check out Hold On and Do You Believe and the Back on 74 / Message In A Bottle retake since you prefer his singing voice. Those are three bangers.
Well, because I'm basing that on what I've heard so far. I don't mind it, it's just not my cup of tea. Lol I don't think I need to hear the man's entire catalog to know, as I'm sure my opinion may or may not change naturally. I got more coming, can just only do so much in a given time frame. :) Perhaps you will stick along for the ride of the progress!
Oxford, England here, yep, agree with power too. Bittersweet symphony good too. Used to love the hunger, and it has great bars, but the rap is like a showcase of ability, rather than a straight tune. Keep reacting, you enjoy it. 👍👍🏽❤️
Checking your Ren reactions, looks like the one you're missing is Murderer which is probably alongside Genesis and Power in the style of rapping and flow on show combined with his music production that's more... radio suited as a track rather than a storytelling piece.
He said in interview that he thought it was interesting to think about noah not making it to the arc in time. You NEED to react to "life is funny" and "hold on" they're right yp your alley for sure. Great reaction!
i mean this should be played on radio, it has everything. Dunno if you did already (gonna check it out right after the comment and to lazy to edit xD ) listen to his Nas retake. Its old school Ren Rap :D
Wow, even though I subbed I see I need to catch up, YT didn't push recommends for your reactions to me. You got comments and subs from all over the world, even just an hour up the 99W. 😉 I was going to recommend 'Power' and 'Animal Flow' until I checked on your Ren Playlist. On his singing voice, his duets with Chinchilla are amazing, since you liked 'Chalk Outlines' I'd like to hear you reaction to 'Ren X Chinchilla - How To Be Me (Live).' Many Ren songs / videos contain messages about his medical misdiagnosis of his Lyme Disease and the resulting effects on his health, as well as social justice themes that perhaps his suffering made him more in tune with. But there are his covers, his collaborations, his busking career on the streets of Brighton. It seems you've not hit many of the darker themes of his illness journey, below is a quick list, some you've done that covers these themes: Ren Gill Music journey - his illness path: Crutch Hi Ren Sick Boi Diazepam Depression Chalk Outlines [featuring Chinchilla] How to Be Me [featuring Chinchilla] Cross between his path and his childhood best friend: Freckled Angels Suic*de For Joe Social Justice songs: Dominos The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full) [includes the three parts including Violet's Tale} Money Game Part 1 Money Game Part 2 (Official Lyric Video) Money Game ARG (Alternative Reality Game) Eden Money Game Part 3 There are some 'fun' videos as well (going to need some to keep from using up all the tissues!): Power Murderer Animal Flow Girls! Uninvited Love Music 1,2,3,4
Haha yeah, if there is one thing I'll give my subs...they turn up and turn out. I always love and appreciate the support I get from all over the place, including you as well! Thanks for these suggestions. Yeah I've always had a ton of artists and songs to cover, but we're definitely not close to being done and have more to do! I'm going to hit on these soon enough as time goes on and hope to see you there. :)
Just caught this reaction and subbed, you are only the 2nd reactor I've seen say that some of Rens rap just don't hit like it could, plain n simple. He's amazing but some of the rap...ya know. So, props for honesty, I hate feeling like people just say something is great because it's what everyone wants to hear. Gtfo, I want a genuine reaction. So the first thing I did was check if you did The Hunger, I think that's the song you were trying to think of cuz that's my favorite of the rap collection. Real nice bruh, thank you again for the honesty, seriously appreciate that ❤️🔥 Looking forward to checking out more of your videos 🤘
And that's what it's all about. I shouldn't feel COMPELLED to say he's amazing for the views or subs or fear of backlash. F all that lol. This my opinion and thoughts and mine alone. Dude is amazing, but doesn't mean I like HEARING everything he does. This one just hit the right nail on the right head and I love it. I appreciate you respecting that and that I could earn your sub. :) It was 100% The Hunger, see I already like you haha. That one was also a good one I liked. I hope to see you in more comments!
Just wanted to say what’s up. I live in Utah. It’s beautiful up here. Originally from Georgia not as pretty. I haven’t even watched your reaction, but I’m excited cause this is one of my favorite songs and you’re one of my favorite reactors. Have a good day peace love
OK, I’m gonna reply to my reply cause I know you like that. I agree with you, Ren singing voices amazing. But if you haven’t seen the hunger, or losing it the Fisher version. I promise those are winners moneyback guarantee
Lmao you replying to your reply and acknowledging it will always make me laugh. Appreciate the love from Utah, love back to you from Texas! Glad you liked the reaction. :) I've actually done The Hunger (go search it on the channel and leave a comment!) but I haven't done the others yet. Those are coming. Haha moneyback guarantee.
