► LEATHER SUPPLIERS
Wickett & Craig - I typically order their "Tooling/Holster/Carving" vegetable tanned leather. I purchase their "Standard" grade, and I request that they split it down from a thicker hide so the back is as clean as possible. I normally order 7-8 ounce for holsters, 3-4 ounce if I'm lining a holster (I build the whole thing out of 3-4 ounce), and either 3-4 or 4-5 ounce for wallets, journal covers, etc... They will allow you to purchase individual hides
Herman Oak - While I love the leather I've gotten from Wickett & Craig, I prefer the warmer coloring of natural Herman Oak. Unfortunately, H.O. requires you to buy leather in bulk from the tannery, and buying from distributors can be hit & miss. Springfield Leather sells "Herman Oak Premium Belt Bend", so I’ve been using this lately.
The Leather Guy - I don't have a lot of experience with this leather, but the "Artisan's Choice" leather I've used has been very nice. The coloration is similar to Wickett & Craig. The thing I really like about The Leather Guy's website is that nearly every single hide shown on their site is a listing for the actual hide you'll be buying, complete with photos and a description of blemishes for that particular hide. Very cool that they do that!
District Leather - I've never personally ordered from them, but I've heard good things about their leather.
Acadia Leather - I've never purchased from here either, but I've also heard good things about their leather.
Horween Leather - At the risk of sounding repetitive, here's another I've never ordered from, but their leather is very well known.
Weaver Leathercraft - Most of what I order from weaver is buckles and tools, but they also sell leather.

Love your work, I typically buy my leather from Tandy, I normally make tool belts, tool bags (so hides with brands are a HUGE plus) hammer holders and so on, being a retired sheet metal worker my clients are 99% tradesmen, and so long as you can carve and tool some wild skulls and stuff like that they are happy. I truly enjoy your work thank you for sharing

@AdamsLeatherWorks

Thank you! I didn't seal this one - I just applied a wax/oil balm on the surface so it will take on a natural patina over time. The edges were airbrushed. Some of my other videos show the airbrush process, but I will try to focus on that process more on my next video. Thanks for watching!

Hi im new to leathercraft.just want to know if i have to put mink oil everytime i dye a leather??? Thanks
@AdamsLeatherWorks
@AdamsLeatherWorks 4 года назад
I don't use mink oil, as a general rule. I use it every now and then, but normally I just use pure neetsfoot oil. You don't have to oil, but it's a good idea to condition the leather with something to restore the oil and moisture to the leather (but don't overdo it). I've used Lexol Leather Conditioner as well - that works well, usually without darkening the leather.

@williamsmith4720
@williamsmith4720 4 года назад
First, I would like to complement you on your artistry and craftsmanship. I recently found your channel and have enjoyed the content. I made the mistake of buying a store model holster, made for a Glock, because it was roughly sized for my CZ P01. My question is, can leather be reworked and molded to a better fit?
@AdamsLeatherWorks
@AdamsLeatherWorks 4 года назад
Hi William - thank you for your compliment, and thanks for watching! As a general rule, I would say no - the holster can not be reworked. Most makers seal their holsters with an acrylic sealer, preventing absorption of water - which is required to form a holster. It may be possible to soak the holster (in room-temperature water) long enough for the water to seep its way into the leather, which may allow some room for additional molding. But this usually affects the dye and makes it look very splotchy when the leather dries out. But, people carry guns all the time in holsters that were made for different guns. As long as you can both safely carry and draw the gun when needed, it's probably fine. Your best bet is to sell the holster and order a new one. Or, leave the CZ in the holster and see if it stretches enough to safely hold the gun. If it's still way too tight, you can put the gun in a plastic zip-top freezer bag, then holster the gun and let it sit a while to stretch the leather. But if the holster was already too loose to begin with, there's not much you can do about it.
@williamsmith4720
@williamsmith4720 4 года назад
Adams LeatherWorks thank you for the information and the quick reply. What I have is safe and functional, just not exactly “perfect.” I may try soaking the trigger guard area to tighten it a bit. Nothing to loose, thanks again.
