I also found it to be a great representation of how she's afraid of it not just being the Emorys moving into their town, but more black families. How it goes from one little spot of mold, representing the Emorys, to the entire wall, terrifying her even further and forcing her to try and get them out before it's too late.

The series was "ok" from my experience. They took too long to get anything happen, and when they did try to explain the unnatural phenomenon, they couldn't even do that. Like I expected Hirem's black rage would've came from the black couple being around an accident that caused Mile's death and Hirem arrived too late or the townsfolk framed the couple. Yet, it just happened out of nowhere and the devil for no reason just hated a group of people? With no sort of cause?? I get what they're trying to portray but I feel like they were trying too hard on the racism

I like that you noted that Betty's trauma doesn't excuse or humanize her but contextualizes her bigotry/hatred. I know a lot of people have been critical (and sometimes rightfully so) of villains being given a tragic backstory or trauma in their past, seeing it as a way to "justify" their current behavior. Or that it might somehow be a statement that people who've been through trauma will inevitably become evil or villainous. What needs to be noted though is that, very rarely, do people act horribly without some kind of damage somewhere in their past. Yes, most people who've been through trauma are perfectly normal, good people, but, unfortunately, some do go on to inflict their trauma on others. Also, two things can be true at once; Betty Wendell is an awful, racist woman, and what has been done to her by her parents and what the Milkman does to her is absolutely horrible and indefensible too. You can condemn a person but condemn awful things done to them too. I like that the show has enough nuance in its writing to show that you can explain something without excusing it.

I don’t see why they demonetized your video, your review/analysis was on point. I also see that they forced you to take out the “NAT KING COLE” reference. Just goes to show somethings just stay the same. As I said in your FIRST rendition of “THEM” I definitely liked the show even though I had to watch it in spurts.

@Jay Bae we should all just be happy that we live now. My step dad is black and I love him. I just hate that race card people use a lot. Yea there is racist people still and it’s fucking horrible. We’re all in the same planet together. We have to work together for a better tomorrow. I love everybody but hate people who hate others because of race so fucking stupid. I hate lazy people and people who complain when they can fix there situations. Black white rainbow idc my thought process is you do a good job work hard we’re all good lol

@@robertbowser1846 This is tone deaf. And you’re blaming the victim. The issue of racism continues still today. It is not pulling the race card. And you having a black stepdad does not give you the right to speak on behalf of black people. You need to do your research.

I pray before watching shows like this using psalm 91. This show not for the faint heart but I bing watch half the show one day and finished watching the rest today. Fast forward Jim Crow Law still running secretly and most people don't know that. Look at the murdered amongst young black teens and adults MSM lied about as suicides. Like the one about the mother who walked into the lake and drown. Another one about a young black man lynched himself in a basketball court. Then yet another one about a young teen tied herself to a tree with a belt wrapped around her neck. The 400 years curse of slavery ended last year. What many people don't realize is the world in the middle of Revelation's prophecies (end of times). Books of Obadiah and Revelation and Chapter three Joel a must read now.

I binged this over the last couple of days, couldn’t stop watching even though it’s hard to watch at times due to the brutal treatment some characters experience. The actors were phenomenal all around, especially the Emory’s. The woman who played Luck is simply stunning as well.

I feel like the way that they advertised this was like they were trying to trick us into thinking this was actually by Jordan Peele. But from ur breakdown it feels more like Lovecraft Country. I was so disappointed when I found out it wasn't by Peele tho... I'm still gonna give it a chance, I guess.

@kaychase2135

How were they trying to “trick” you to believe it was by Jordan peele? Because the story is similar to his work. If you’d google, you’d see is was by Lena Waithe. It’s not their job to keep you up to date on who is the producer when all the information is at your hands. All you have to do is look. Whether you give it a chance or not, that lady still made her coins! You choose movies based on producers? Dumbest shit I’ve ever heard!

I'll be honest, when I first watched the trailer I did assume it was at least written by Jordan Peele. Also doesn't help that Peele's last movie was called US, where US and THEM sound like they would be a first instalment, and then maybe a second? Idk. That may just be me.

This was a very well-written series and I really liked watching it. Each character brought to the set many different emotions, fears, anger, etc. I fell in love with Lucky, her husband and both daughters and my heart broke for their suffering and pain, all the while just wanting to be in a better place. The neighbors were savage in behavior showing how ignorance and fear can manipulate a situation. The cast was excellent, especially the Emery Family.
