So to all you genxers and boomers, remember sitting around the one tv in the house as a family watching this and every other epic sitcoms of time period? I was born in 1979 and I remember vividly sitting on the couch with my parents and older brothers watching this and silver spoons, charles in charge etc cigarette smoke drifting lazily around the room, snuggled up with my dogs mia and Jodi. Now almost 40 years later my moms the only one still alive. Man what I wouldnt give to be able to go back for just one day in the mid to late 80's and have one night of TGIF television with them in the house I grew up in

Omg. Gosh you nailed it so perfectly. There was something so special about waiting to even watch the shows that came on. Like the wait made it more enjoyable. Today something this in the movie theater and you cab watch it from home on your phone while its playing in the theater. Like no wait until it comes out on vhs and then come out 6 months later to h.b.o. lol. It meant something to not have instant access to everything like the kids have today. Today's generation doesn't know the value of earning something. They just ask and receive. We asked, then how to earn or somehow sacrifice something to get whatever we asked for. That made getting what we wanted more special. Idk. Just doesn't seem the same today. I miss the 80s soo much

I liked the one where he spent all that time writing the answers on the soles of his shoes that he actually passed the test without cheating and then while enjoying his accomplishments and talking to the teacher he puts his feet up on the desk and the teacher sees the answers on his shoes. Great episode and great show.

Here is the problem with now. Nobody has patience like we did. We waited for the next week so we can tune in. Now you can watch a whole season in one sitting which sucks. Take your time and watch shoes the way they were meant to be watched. Slowly

@@vinmanoct1279I’m a millennial so Netflix streaming started when I was in late high school, but then regular TV was still the primary source for shows. Waiting a week for the next episode of your favorite show is a thousand times better. You can really let what you watched sink in and contemplate it. You can talk about the show you watched with your friends and get excited together

Growing Pains was the ultimate Gen-X TV show. Beverly Hills 90210 started in the early 1990s and too late for the majority of our cohort....and then we were fortunate to have Friends in College.

I am so glad I got to experience growing up in the 80's and 90's. I used to watch this show when I was a kid. After the 90's the only show I could find worth watching that I liked was walking dead, game of thrones, avatar, and sapranos. Otherwise I end up checking out something new and hating it, guess its re-runs for me the rest of my life.

Growing Pains is seriously the greatest family sitcom and greatest show ever! It's funny and serious the acting is great the pacing is good with high energy it has fun storylines and it has a fourth wall episode called Meet the Seavers that's very creative my favorite part in the episode is when the set guy carries Ben over his shoulder I'm sure lots of girls loved seeing Jeremy Miller's big butt. Everything about it is absolutely perfect it's literally the perfect show!

I have a very sarcastic sense of humor, so Mike Seaver's snarky comments and the dumb situations had me in stitches. I wasn't even born during this show's entire run and it's the funniest show I've ever seen, and I've seen shows from the 1930s to the 2000s. I don't understand why this show didn't get much attention compared to other, less entertaining sitcoms. If Kirk Cameron's wasn't on it, I wouldn't even know it exists.

I just realized my comment gave the impression that I watched the entire show. I actually bingewatched a bunch of longer clips from random episodes on RU-vid, found those so entertaining that I purchased a subscription to watch the entire sitcom. I was only able to watch the first two seasons before my subscription ended. Since I haven't seen it in a while, I had to restart from Season 1 again. RU-vid has since deleted the longer clips that were previously uploaded, and as far as I can tell, the only one available is the dinner one with Leonardo Dicaprio.

B.J. Thomas was the one who sang this theme with Jennifer Warnes, not Bill Medley. The song Medley and Warnes sang together was '(I've Had) the Time of My Life' from Dirty Dancing.

BJ Thomas, for the first season, sang it solo, but in seasons 2, 3, and 5, Jennifer Warnes joined him for a duet. For season 4, the original writers of the song extended it into a studio version recorded and performed by BJ Thomas and Dusty Springfield, which was in turn used for that particular season due to the show being a hit. The previous version with Warnes was reused for the fifth season, and in the final two seasons, they wanted an a capella version, so they hired a capella group, Rockapella, to perform it, though I guess it must've just been for season 6, because the final season went back to the Thomas/Warnes duet.
