You know, it bothers me how hypocritical people are. They say Theon deserves what he got and can’t be redeemed because he killed those boys. But people immediately forgive Jaime and the Hound who also murdered or attempted to murder little boys as well. At least Theon showed immense regret for what he did but apparently some just think he is irredeemable for that.
Yeah, he is better if he spends rest of his life in redemption and to atone for his sins by doing good with the capability and strength he has than receiving death as punishment. Just like how The Hound and Jamie are being useful for the greater good.
I'm not like this. Theon and Jaime are the most interesting characters because they have a path of redemption and this is the beauty of them. Their regret make people cheer for their redemption. I feel for jaime the same feeling i feel for theon. But, of course, theon suffered much more, but only because he had Ramsay in his way. If Jaime had him too, he would have lost much more than a hand.
Theon Greyjoy truly is broken. He's a shell of his former self, and you've captured that. His self-hate. He's terrified, he actually thinks that he's Reek. One of the best characters, unfortunately, I don't see a happy ending for him. Alfie Allen is an amazing actor.
I agree so much with you. But I still hope we'll see more of his redemption arc in season 7 :) and yes he is! and so incredible underrated. In my opinion he has one of the most difficult roles to play and he does a more than perfect job as Theon. And also, thank you very much for all your lovely comments! that really means a lot to me!:)
SophieStudios my notifs aren't working. There are so many layers to him. Alfie Allen has captured all of it. He's got the self-hate, he's got the self-pity. And it's so annoying how he never gets the praise he deserves just because Theon betrayed Robb. This is the one thing that has always annoyed me. Robb constantly mentioned how Theon wasn't a Stark, and unfortunately, that left marks. He treated Jon like family despite being a 'bastard', that's all Theon ever wanted, to be properly loved. And the people who say he deserved this are actually horrible.
I couldn't have said it better. I love Robb, don't get me wrong, but I think it's a bit ridiculous that people still hate Theon for betraying him. He had a lot of reasons to do so and honestly, I think most would have done the same. But a lot of people are so blinded by their love for the Starks that they are not able to see the situation from his point of view. He would have been a traitor no matter what he did, but family means everything in GoT so he had to pick his blood. And yes, people who say he deserved to be tortured and treated like less than a human scare me so much.
SophieStudios The Starks are put on such a high platform it amazes me. Ned was quite distant to Theon, because he knew that a day would come where he might have had to kill him. Catelyn wasn't the warmest either. Robb was quite horrid to him. And yet he was the only one Theon ever really considered family. I'm not justifying his actions, but all he wanted was his father's love. It's not his fault he turned out to be a bitter old man. Anyone who says he deserved it is horrible.
The greatest thing about George Martin's work is that he shows his characters in such a realistic way. They are not heroes, they are (mostly) not villains, they are _human_ . So it's sad when people just see the Starks as the heroes of the story and don't question their actions at all, when they really should, because the Starks aren't angels, and they aren't perfect. As I said before, I love House Stark, it's one of my favourite houses, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with everything they do. And again, I agree with everything you said. It makes it even more tragic that Theon had to betray Robb, the only person who ever showed him some kind of love while he was a hostage of the Starks. It's nice to read an actual nice post about Theon, considering all the hate he gets, especially after the last episode.
This video is heartbreaking, I honestly don't understand how anyone can dislike it. It's sad and strong at the same time and just like you, I look forward to Theon's development in season 7
he did a really wise decission. He escaped so euron uses yara as prisoner instead to kill her (and himself btw). He took of his honor, but for him this isnt all to bad, because he haven't honor at least by himself. If he had honor he had attacked euron, while he is killing yara and then him. I think Theon could be a great king of the iron Islands.
2:48 - No Theon, You didn't deserve the things that happened to you. They were cruel to you. The Starks, The Greyjoys, The Boltons, they all used you for their own benefits. You did not deserve this, you were only a careless kid who made bad judgments, but still you didn't deserve this. I hope you will finally be freed from pain, to be able to live and choose your destiny. Long Live Theon Greyjoy - 'For What is Dead May Never Die'.
Well in the books Ned Stark only mentions Theon once and he says: "from this day on, I want a careful watch kept over Theon Greyjoy. If there is war, we shall have sore need of his father’s fleet". if thats not using then i dont know?
Dude fuck theon he is boring as fuck and should have been Dead a long time ag, but instead the dumb writer involve him and the fucking greyjoys with everything. They are irrelevant ass fuck
It's sad too see that Theon is more Stark than Greyjoy and when he comes home he's forced to betray the Starks whom he loves more than his real family. Well done❤️
this is the best best best tribute to the most complex character on the show and for me the best actor on the show... what Alfie has given to this character is just so beautiful & heart rending... what an arc....whenever I watch these scenes it just astounds me that how can one actor portray so many different emotions on screen... it also saddens me that he doesn't get much credit for his work.. yes in DVD commentaries you hear other actors praising him but when it comes to public interviews the cast and the showrunners just go gung go over Peter, Sophie, Maisie, Emilia & Kit.. mind you they are talented and amazing in their own way but what Alfie had done with this character deserves loads of praises...
A late answer is better than no answer... so thank you very much! that really means a lot to me. And I agree so much! Alfie is one hell of an actor, Theon changes so much throughout the series and Alfie nails it every time. I hope he gets a lot of roles after GoT is over, I really want to see more of his acting skills
why they interview Sophie? i dont think ist really hard to Play sansa when you see that 50% of her dialogue is about how nice joffrey is. You right, Alfie is the best actor from the Show.
Theon is my favorite character on game of thrones which is why I really admire how you captured the essence of his character here. How he was "broken" after already being troubled with the pull between the Starks and the Greyjoys, and then as Ramsay's prisoner. But he has begun regaining his identity, and the ending with "what's your name?" and him answering with his real name really hit the spot on that fact. I loved that bit. Thank you for making this video it was beautiful ❤️
This is why I dislike game of thrones. Theon's evolution in this show is the most saddest character evolution I´ve ever seen. Despite what he deserved, it is sick to watch! Now there are huge conversations between viewers who hate him and viewers who care for him. I personally care for him and must say that's a very good video that you made SophieStudios. Well done 👍🏾
SophieStudios Yes! :-) Sometimes I ask myself, what was G.R.R.Martins idea of creating such a character? One that you hate, so that viewers enjoy and laugh how he suffers? Or one that you care and join him on a horror trip of torturing and suffering?
As G.R.R.Martin is completely against violence, I'm pretty sure it wasn't his intention for the viewers to enjoy the torture ( and I can't understand how anyone enjoys these scenes, they are horrible to watch). I think his intention was to create a character, who is difficult to understand and easy to hate, maybe too easy. I don't want to justify his actions but you have to see the situation from his perspective and his point of view and then you realize, he's just a young man who desperately wants a home and a family. So that's what I think of him xD
SophieStudios Yes, you can really see from the show that G.R.R. Martin is completely against violence. Hahaha!😏😂 But I agree with you and I'm glad to know that it's not worng to feel sorry for Theon.
jack2 sparrow well he said it himself and in the books ( I don't know if you read them) there is a very long monologue of septon meribald that clearly shows his pacifism. He uses violence not for enjoyment but to show the terror. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say sorry my English is not the best:)
I personally think his character arc is amazing, and he shows a very flawed and complex character. Cant wait for the next season! What is dead may never die.
Nice job buddy! I think this is a good representation of the incredibly complicated character of Theon. He starts off being a bit of a narcissist to cover for all of his insecurities about his father and his childhood, but then is tortured to a point beyond all recognition, assuming the persona of Reek to survive.
"Robb who had been more a brother to Theon than any son born of Balon Greyjoy's loins. Murdered at the Red Wedding, butchered by the Freys. I should have been with him. Where was I? I should have died with him."
The torture and the suffering he went through, no man in westeros would have endured that pain. And no man could ever have stayed normal after that torment. But theon recovered. Period.
alfie allen is the best actor in game of thrones... his acting gives me chills in every scene...he doesnt need to talk....only from his reactions you can feel him in every scene...he is so underrated theon grayjoy will die saving jon and starks in the fight with whitewalkers....and it will be most heroicly sad scene in the series...the scene that deserves to theon grayjoy. THEON GRAYJOY WILL NOT CHOOSE WRONG ENYMORE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS. WHAT IS DEAD MAY NEVER DIE.
Great character and great perfonmance. I wish we finally see him at the end of GoT as a member of the Night Watch, where the past of a man doesn't matter, and a new life and a new family begins
Tbh I wish Theon had stuck around for the Battle of the Bastards, he would've been an awesome addition and presence to add to Jon's army, especially with his history surrounding ramsay
This vid is amazing. It brings what really happened to Theon out, The only people he saved he loved. The Starks, Sansa, Rickon and Bran. Though Rickon got caught and killed but that time he saved Sansa. I'm sure he's gonna reunited with Jon and be back with the Starks. So broken he couldn't save his sister.
I think people are forgetting that Theon was only 17 when he took Winterfell. He was young, stupid and just wanted love. He didn't get it from the Starks so he tried to get it from his Father. Then he realised his mistake and tried to make amends as best he could.
There's a very strong theory that he's azor ahai because when Euron took Yara, there was salt and smoke everywhere, and Theon was standing under a "bleeding sun" (the dornish flag of a red sun with a spear through it). But it doesn't seem like that's where it's all going. A shame, I hope the writers didn't keep Theon around since the beginning just to have a small confidence arc
This character from GOT was shaped with care, its not like a second actor or just someone. Have work on that, have propose, a mesage, have an history and even something to learn with.
Your video was beautiful. Theon has become one of my favorites because of how he tries to redeem himself. He may have been broken by that monster Ramsay but he has become a stronger and better person now. Your video was an amazing tribute to this wonderful character.
I lovee Alfie so freaking much❤️❤️ and godd his actinggg is impeccable, fucking perfect. It's safe to say that he's one of the best actorson the show, if not the best. Theon had his change in character and been two completely different people and he's, without a single mistake, portrayed both❤️❤️❤️ Ohhh myyy what just happened in episode 2😍😍😭 his reunion with Sansa gave me chills and how he chose to fight alongside the Starks. And then when he knew the night king in certainly coming for bran, yet he chose to defend him knowing the consequences of it. And if there's one thing I truly wish is that he doesn't die in the process. I hope season 8 ends good to Theon. And the video and edit are really good, keep up the good work😍
I like this video, but it's missing the part where he tells the mayster does he know what its likes to like your capturers. To be told how lucky you are to be a prisoner of the Starks. How do you reply to that. That's the mind fuck. Growing to like a family, but then has have to realize you are their prisoner and no matter how much you like each other, the truth Is just that. He was bashful about being a Greyjoy. Dreaming of the day he would return and be greeted with open arms, only to find a father who did not trust or remembered him and a sister who belittled him. Basically having an identity crisis then followed by years of torture and regret. One of the most tragic stories in tv history, I hope there is serious redemption for him. I would hate for him to just simply die after going through all this from season 1.
In a way Ramsey actually made theon a better man than he ever was. Theon needed to be broken down in order to see who he really is, and I suspect that as he recovers during the last two seasons he will become a very loyal and good character despite his mistakes in the past.
How could I discover your channel scarcely now?! You're all videos are great. Such beautiful, such emotional. Good job! You seem to be person, who have many talents, who can notice all attributes of characters and show this attributes in a phenomenal way :) I wish, that you talent still grow, grow and grow harder :D Sorry for my english. I love Theon and Jaime. First is good tragical character, second is unappreciated hero. Again, you're presentation of the character is great
I am such a sucker for some good quotes in a video. The quotes you chose and where they are in the video is brilliant. I hope I can make something on par with this some day!
How differently things might have turned out for him, had he send that letter to Robb.. I kinda sympathise with him because what happened to him was aweful and sad and terrible. But tbh, he kinda brought it on himself.. Not that he deserved it. But had he not betrayed the Starks, none of it would have happened to him.
QueenSansa yes but then he would have died at the red wedding. There wasn't a good option to chose for Theon, he could either pick the bad or the worse and sadly, he picked the worse.
knet delfin but Yara still is a Queen of the Iron Islands. It's not for him to be a ruler, I hope he'll find far more pleasant things to do I mean, all this kings and queens, they don't look like nice fellas :)
love the video. quite inspirational. i might just do one of my own some day. maybe a pick a character from the wire or something. keep up the good work :)
It ads to his character if you think about the fact that Euron probably molested him as a boy. Would explain how he forgot his own sister and the iron price when returning to the iron islands.
I really think they should have made his hair White after all the torture. And next session I would like to see him have like flash backs or nightmares of it all
Myles Garrett oh yes that would be amazing! I hope they don't forget about what he's been through and how it influences him. I'm still a bit angry that they didn't give us the godswood scene with Theon, that's one of my favourite scenes in the books. But hopefully they will at least show us his reaction to Ramsays death.
Yes, the quality is terrible, I absolutely agree! All in all, I'm not very happy about this video, so I will probably make a new one after season 7. But thank you for the advise and I'm happy you liked it anyways! (and wow, you have just compared me to my two biggest idols, that's a huge honor for me!)
I hated this character when he took winterfell, and everything he did while being an "ironborn" again. Especially that he betrayed the starks and killed two Innocent boys. But I think he has paid the price for it a long time ago, maybe several times over.
Excellent, truely. Robb Stark's one I don't like very much, the music doesn't fit, and it's broken into a thousand pieces...but for this one, it's good that it is such.
Thank you! I have to admit, I don't like the Robb Stark video neither anymore, I've already thought of deleting it, because it is so horribly edited:/ but I'm glad that you like this one!
I personally have 1% respect for Allisar because he really was a brave man who cared for the wall and did what he thought was best for the Nights Watch. But how he treated Jon and his friends was just cruel. Balon on the other hand is just a dumb selfish coward and I'm glad that he's dead now.
You shouldn't be watching this video then, because, well, spoilers! ;) but no, I don't think Theon is a terrible person, I think he is a very human person, who makes mistakes as we all do. But I won't spoil anything for you:) Enjoy the show, it's great!:)
