What's Anya Mind?
Today, I'll be sharing the 5 communications stances discussed in Virginia Satir's Human Growth model. These communication stances or styles describe our go-to positions in conversations that can be intense and emotional. It's so important that we allow for emotional expression in our lives which requires vulnerability. If you'd like a full explanation of Satir's model, let me know!

I feel like my POV as someone who is definitely working on improving on a Placator stance is being driven more by craving validation rather than someone making a decision for them. I have time and time again placed my emotions beneath my friends and family and now that I've finally felt like I can be independent (well just got married) and make decisions based on MY interests first, I feel extreme guilt. Like I'm disappointing my friends and family by not making myself physically or emotionally available. And now they won't be proud of me or they will no longer want me around because I no longer meet their expectations. I feel like I am very slowly growing out of this thanks to the support of my partner and best friend through emotional intimacy. But it does make me realize how some of my other long term friendship are going to have to change since I just can't be an emotion battery for others anymore. I am at the point where I no longer have shared my honest feelings with some people and it's creating distance that I did not intend to set. Cheers to personal growth in 2023 😅

How do you help a placator and a computer in an intimate relationship together. Strong in most areas, weak in the communication department and that spills over into not having love languages met?

@@ashleymiller1913 I wish you the best ! In my program we take classes with clinical professional counselors so we learn a lot about modernist approaches I was so glad to see this video because without Satir we wouldn't have a lot of the modernist therapies MFTs use now. I do love my program! I hope you like yours ! I am so glad to have this RU-vid channel to follow along with a lot of the videos Steph has are really legit things we are learning in my program. I have to take a whole class on Contextual therapy and I never heard of that before so her video was really helpful in preparing me for it! I also highly recommend her videos on structural family therapy and Bowen theory depending on your school those theories are on the comprehensive exams we have to take and her videos help me understand them . I am currently carrying a 4.0 GPA ! And I know her videos a part of my success! Wish you all the best ! The world needs more MFTs and therapists especially right now!

1: that music is super annoying! What is the advantage in creating an extra level of audio? 2. there is no „one“ healthy communication stance out of the five. An equal balance is considered „healthy“. Congruency, awareness and consent are supportive communication and enable grown in the interaction. Each communication stance has a value. Serves a purpose. You have to find the purpose and then check the action/reaction value. And lastly: this is tinted very stereotypical American. There is more in this world.

Congruent Communicator 9 min mark Holding Hands Keeps you from Pointing or Begging Truely Understand What do i hear and see What are the meanings of what i am hearing and seeing? What did i see What Did i hear and What feelings do i have during this? Your frustrated with yourself for still allowing your partner to not show up for you.

Hi steph! I have been binge watching your videos lately because I’ve been working with a lot of couples or individuals that want to work on their marriage although their spouse is not willing to try therapy. How can we help in those cases where only one person is really wanting to make changes in the marriage? I get that they can only control their response and not their partners but how can they then help their marriage? I’ve been giving them communication skills but the other person isn’t really even willing to try something new or address the issues.
