I don't think Cappy would be much use against Sonic, and it's more than just "Sonic's too fast to hit" although that is indeed a factor. You gotta remember Eggman's built machines that can match Sonic's speed which is something Mario's not used to dealing with, but also you can't possess everything with Cappy in Super Mario Odyssey. Mario can possess a lot of things, but the Broodals, Peach, most NPCs, and even Bowser can't be possessed at least not until severely wounded in Bowser's case. Plus, water isn't that big of deal to Sonic anymore. In Colors, he could swim just fine, and even if you take that away, he can just use the Bubble Shield to stay down there permanently, the Drill Wisp to swim through perfectly fine, or even just boost to the surface like he can in Generations. That's just my two cents though.

Sonic isn't weak against water because, in the games, Sonic can survive a decent amount of time in water until he needs an air bubble. But that's just a theory, a GAME THEORY

Sonic vs. Mario is a fun idea, but let's be real, everyone wants their favorite character to win. If you like Sonic more? You want Sonic to win; if you like Mario more? You want Mario to win. People take this stuff to seiously, sometimes. Close your eyes and imagine them fighting, and thats who wins. There are a lot of issues with this. Though the whole "Sonic weak to water" is extremely outdated, he hasn't been weak to water since the 2000's, in Sonic Colors, we can see him swim just fine. Also, I am not sure where you got the impression that Sonic sometimes doesn't breathe in space. Sonic has always been able to breathe in space just. Mario, on the other hand, is inconsistent if he can breathe underwater or not. The 2D games seems like he can, but in 3D games he can't. Also Super sonic being crush is just a game mechanic, in canon Super Sonic can't be crushed, the Titans tried and failed. Also if you're going to use Smash bros as point towards Mario's abilities, then wouldn't that alone proves Sonic is stronger than Mario? Everyone was struggling against Tabuu, until Sonic came and two shot him like he was nothing. Seems like Nintendo themselves was stating that Sonic is the strongest Smash character around that (until ultimate when they brought in even stronger characters)

This guy has some wrongs, Sonic's super form is not based off rings, the ring count for his super form is just for the games, that is there so that the player isn't too powerful forever. Paper Mario and Super Mario are different universes, so you can't really compare both of the 2 different games. Cappy was an only once power-up, actually, Cappy isn't really a power-up, he is a ghost that wanted to help Mario save the princess because his sister was with the princess too, then once Mario and Cappy save both Princess Peach and Cappy's sister, Cappy and Mario departed from each other and never really met again. The reason why Eggman is able to catch sonic (sometimes) when Sonic is going really fast is because Eggman knows that sonic runs really fast, so Eggman built robots to catch up with Sonic's speed, examples are Metal Sonic, Infinite, (and maybe more). Mario could possibly catch Sonic if Mario can read Sonic's speed pretty quickly. (Tell me if any of this information is wrong).

You havent even considered the moveset in Sonic Superstars. He can make Clones of Himself, Slow Down Time, Turn into a Bullet ... You could also mention Chaos Control from Sonic Adventure 2, where he literally teleported.

This is just as tiring as the Goku vs. Superman debate. Can we all just admit that they wouldn't even fight to begin with and most likely be friends instead?

I honestly think it could go across either way. In terms of strength and durability, they're both universal threats, if not multiversal. Though while Mario gets to this level casually in base form, thanks to him being able to keep up with Zeekeeper and Dreamy Bowser without power-ups, Sonic rarely displays that level of power in base form, but otherwise, Super Sonic has shown himself to be that powerful pretty consistently, thanks to him beating characters like Solaris and the Time Eater. In terms of speed, it's surprisingly debatable as to who's faster since they should both be fast enough to travel across the universe in very short periods of time. They also have arguments for having an immeasurable speed since they're able to keep up with boses like the Time Eater and Celux. But again, Sonic is considerably more likely to reach that level of speed as Super Sonic, whereas him having immeasurable speed in base form is highly questionable. In terms of versatility, Mario definitely takes it, thanks to him being kinda stacked when it comes to what equipment he has on him, though I wouldn't consider that an automatic win condition, especially since Mario and Sonic are arguably comparable to each other in terms of physicality. And about the Super Sonic thing, Mario could wait for him to run out of time, but Super Sonic is just as likely to overpower Mario before he can react. Btw, I can think of other matchups that might interest you more than Mario vs Sonic, namely Mario vs Mickey Mouse and Sonic vs Son Goku.

Ok. This video needs research. 1. Sonic CAN swim in Sonic Colors. And thanks to the boost, he can get out of the water in a matter of seconds. 2. Mario has better combat. Mario & Luigi skills > Sonic Frontiers skills 3. Super Sonic doesn't have time limit. Yes, you can knock him, but in Sonic Advance Sonic stayed in super form for 3 days. And even if you knock him, as demonstrated in Sonic Frontiers, Sonic is able to regain the form instantly. This advantage is even better with Super Sonic 2. 4. In Sonic Battle, Sonic & the Secret Rings and Sonic Generations Sonic has very good abilities that you didn't mention. 5. Mario has better durability and endurance than Sonic. This is what I consider Mario's best advantage in the fight.

I think the biggest problem with this debate is that everyone is always thinking about what kind of forms they can take, like in dragon ball or something. But they can’t just change into these powered up versions of themselves on command, they would have to go find the items needed, and I doubt that when Mario is fighting sonic he is just gonna have an invincible tanooki suit or cappy on him, same goes with Sonic.

Alright I just want to make 2 things clear: The Mario in Mario odyssey is not the same Mario as the one in paper Mario, same goes with every other spin off. Also, remember the beginning cutscene in Mario odyssey? When bowsers hat was swinging back around to launch Mario off his ship, mario didn’t have the reaction time to dodge bowsers hat the second time. Here’s why the resurgence of Mario vs Sonic is happening, Death Battle made 2 episodes on this matchup, and with them making a third Goku vs Superman fight, and it being viewed as one of the episodes in the show’s history, people want Death Battle to make a third Mario vs Sonic with the same glow up.

Sonic is technically stronger, but Mario could probably defeat him my using another method rather than just fists. So the correct answer to who would win is whatever the writers decide.

The movies that come out from both of these series will only make this debate continue on for even longer, it's inevitable.

In Wario World, Wario defeated the Black Jewel who was pretty much a god. There were also a few other disturbing and powerful bosses in that game. Due to the nature of the video being biased, here are some bulletpoints: 1. Super Sonic does *not* have a time limit and can't get crushed canonically. This in it of itself should end any debate. Sonic may not blitz Mario (unless it's Hyper), but Sonic can definitely overpower Mario, and if he can't due to Star, he can stall, forever. Mario will get tired eventually, Sonic never gets tired. 2. Mario's "arsenal" of powerups is dumb, most of those powerups aren't gonna be used, since they are situational. Only Star and whatever else fits the fight better. Mario also may have a big arsenal, but you need the item for said powerups. This just doesn't even make it possible for Mario to use all of his powerups. 3. Mario's durability, strength and speed may be on par with Sonic's (durability may be higher, even), but his reaction time... Oh man, his reaction time. ESPECIALLY compared to Sonic's reaction time. 4. Sonic ain't weak to water no more. Swim, boost and goodbye. 5. Search up Archie Sonic and Ultra Sonic. They aren't the games Sonic, but boy they are way, WAY better. Can solo DBS verse type of better. 6. Cappy ain't catching Sonic, sorry to break it to you. Even then, Cappy wouldn't BE there in the first place, he's long gone. 7. This fight would never take place anyways. End of debate.

Me personally, Sonic wins. He has a wide range of forms and you did not include the monitors (Bubble Shield, Flame Shield, etc). Those are huge feats for sonic. Some other examples to back me up is Sonics speed (of course). Yes, this seems obvious, but listen. If mario is going to fight him? Sonic will just run around him. As bigger of a fan of Sonic than Mario that I might be, I’d be agreeing completely about Mario winning. If it wasn’t for the fact that Sonic has straight up denied mind control before. So even if Mario were to get cappy to land on Sonics head, I wouldn’t say it’s a guaranteed win for Mario. Now I’m not entirely sure if Cappy/Mario is straight up using mind control or if it’s something else, but the closest thing I can liken it to, is mind control. And Sonic himself is immune to mind control as seen in the game Sonic Chronicles.

What's funny is that I think I remember it being Super Star Mario vs Super Sonic, and I said it would vary depending on how much time each form has left.

The Mario VS Sonic debate just never ends, which debating in general if it's overused is honestly annoying to me. I may prefer Mario over Sonic The Hedgehog, but my bias is not the reason I think he would win against Sonic. Sonic is not limited to chaos emeralds and whips, he has the power boxes, which have multiple powers, regular shield, bubble shield, electric shield which does electric damage and acts like a magnet, fire shield which defends against fire and gives sonic a fire dash, invincibility shield which makes him invisible, also you completely forgot on purpose about hyper form, it's funny you gave mario cappy which was a power up for only 1 game, sonic should have the lightspeed dash ring, fire ring, bounce bracelet, chaos control which is a time stop which mario has no counter for at all, lightspeed attack, and more, so yeah you was very biest towards mario, next time you want to do a video like this don't cheat and hope no one will notice

I don’t see how mario could even stand a chance against a simple spindash, and just because sonic is scared of water and can’t swim he has conquered water levels many times in most games, and he can run on water. And you said sonic can’t top up his superform but he can, he just needs to collect rings, and rings are much more common than stars, all sonic would need to do is cyloop mario spindash through him to knock him away, purposefully let mario hit him and then parry and do a grand slam and Mario’s dead without even needing a superform. You also include rpgs in Mario’s list of feats even though they aren’t canon, if your doing comp mario, then I’ll do comp sonic, and that includes Archie sonic, and well let’s just say you don’t want mess with Archie sonic. Supersonic was only stopped by Eggman who had lots of time to prepare and caught sonic off guard, I don’t think mario has the iq to make a machine that can stop supersonic, and considering this is a fair fight you wouldn’t have any traps just raw skill. What some people dont understand is that most of these debates are for *fun* Just talking to your friend or a stranger about an imaginary characters duking it out, discussing about there powers and skills are *fun* It is okey to debate over fictional characters fighting just remember to keep it under check and dont go too far into it. At the end of the day having *fun* is the most important things about these stuff.

I love Mario and all, but super speed has turned out to be one of the most overpowered abilities across all of media, not just with Sonic. Add on top of that Sonic's 1 Ring rule and the fact that he doesn't drop all of them when hit anymore shows that it really should be Sonic that wins at least 99.99999% of the time. The only way Mario could win is extreme luck (because the power ups he'd need to defeat Sonic need to appear by chance) or they'd have to be doing something other than battle, like a baking competition or jumping contest. If it is a battle there is almost no reason why Sonic should loose. The only people who would think otherwise are either blindsided by nostalgia or are purposefully forgetting that all the power ups that could defeat Sonic are entirely luck based. Plus the whole Cappy thing of how Mario could just capture Sonic is dumb because if Mario just captures Sonic and kills Sonic that would kill Mario too, Odyssey shows us this. In Odyssey I capture a Hammer Bro and jump into lava, that kills both the Hammer Bro AND Mario, so I don't see why that would be different here.

Not biased or anything, but the only reasons why eggman could have caught sonic is because he has over 300 IQ AND he has over THIRTY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE with the hedgehog. just pointin that out. And not even talking about sonics many forms, Fleetway (comics), Dark spine (not dark cuz hes overrated), HYPER SONIC!1!!11 (even though he cant technically transform into it anymore (because the super emeralds are in a different dimension, but those said emeralds COULD have landed in the dimension where the fight took place)), Cyber sonic (idk what its called, i am still tryna finish frontiers), and many others. (im not counting archie) so he has a mega advantage. but the cherry ability IS powerful for mario. but sonic HAS defeated multiple enemies AT ONCE using his phantom strike attack. plus i dont even think that cappy would agree to fight sonic. mainly because he only joined up with mario because his sister was trapped with peach. Close tie but sonic WOULD win in the end. I do appreciate marios feats but against sonic, sonic would ultimately come out in the top. not even mentioning the super stars emerald powers if your counting super mario wonder.

I think Mario and sonic are best buddies. They both beat the bad guy every time, they’re both incredibly powerful, they have a sidekick in Luigi and tails, and they both love eating extremely unhealthy but delicious food.

Well Ive always said that they would be the perfect counter to each other. Sonic is weaker than Mario but he's way faster meaning he can throw infinintly more punches than Mario but Mario has that strength that can manage to damage Sonic majorly but at a much slower rate. Both Mario and Sonic are strong in their own ways, and depending on how the situation works, it could go either way. But the CORRECT answer to this age old question would be that the two of them become friends, as it’s also the most realistic outcome of this whole debate. Mario and Sonic wouldn’t even fight at all, because it’s not who they really are. Sure, they can get competitive, but if a fight were to break out, it would be far more along the lines of a sparring match between friends, with laughs, smirks and such.

Well Mario has many more different power-ups. sometimes one power is enough. and that is his speed sonic is almost faster than a black hole and remember he had just fought one of eggmans most powerful robobots has no boost energy and even after that he was still faster than light. And the reason Mario could survive that Universe Rebirth was because of Rosalina and the Lumas, not because of Mario himself

In all honesty, the things brought up are simply countered by "sonic fast haha." The point mentioned that Mario could catch sonic because Eggman's machines could isn't an argument since his machines are made to match his speed. Since speed is on the topic, Sonic speed is leagues above Marios that the fight would be over via speed blitz. This is because (with the power of scaling) sonics speed is at the very least immeasurable speed in base and Marios BEST feat is FTL which is a HUGE difference in speed. Marios best feat is traveling through the galaxy (Which isn't even from himself it's from a machine/power up) while sonics best is simply existing and out speeding someone that shattered time and space. You could mention the side games for Mario with shattered time but those only happened because Mario had a resistance to it (Hacks category, NOT speed). Out speeding 2 time gods that eat and destroy Dimensions (which means they are higher than dimensions itself - instantly scaling to at least infinite speed) Sonic would be better or on par. base sonic is at least immeasurable speed because of him simply restoring destroyed time and space in generations IN BASE. Sonic wouldn't even need supersonic since Mario would be knocked out before he could even use a power/move.

The idea of Mario and Sonic fighting is ridiculous. You can make very easy claims for why both of them easily win. Obviously I'm saying Mario wins. Obviously a Sonic fan says Sonic wins. At the end of the day, Mario and Sonic stop at nothing to win and save the day in their games. That's why a battle like this is hard to objectify. They're both videogame protagonists that never lose.

One gigantic problem with the Mario vs Sonic debate is that we dont know if Sonic could use Marios powers up..i mean with his speed Sonic could easly steal all of Marios power ups before Mario could use them and one other problem is that we dont know if Cappy can control Sonic because Sonic was able to not be manipulated by Dark Gaia and we dont know if Cappy is fast enough to catch Sonic...so that Debate is technally impossible until we see a true Mario vs Sonic Game from Sega and Nintendo!

Also you forgot to mention mario defeated dimentio who was going to end the cosmology (universe, dimensions basically the structures in mario) that get mario higher than multiversal. Mario also has a ability that allows him to not die (Save and Load block) it can make maro go back in time or helps mario to restart an battle or a mission. Not game mechanic since it's been narratively stated in the story of the rpg games themselves.

I think Sonic will win with the thing this video forgets is that he’s fast. He’s not just gonna let himself be hit by cappy. Rings are a gameplay gimmick for the games. 50 rings is also just the minimum amount of rings needed as forces has long bosses if you count the time in between cutscenes. If you want to count gimmicks then SS is better because he is constantly able to survive walking on lava while lava in Mario is usually an instant kill giving SS more invulnerability. Mario surviving the birth of a universe is dumb because he survives ALONGSIDE EVERYONE ELSE! Except for maybe the Lumas but the noise they make is the same as the hungry Lumas who are willingly reborn into new galaxies and Mario says so himself in one of his few spoken sentences. So they didn’t die from some danger, they died to save Mario from some danger.

Sonic has never been afraid of water in the games, that was something made up by Sonic X. Sure he didn't used to be able to swim, but as seen in Colors he kinda can now by using his ball state and infinitely jumping underwater. Sure he still isn't great with water, but throwing him in the ocean is far from an instant loss. Super Sonic has also tanked attacks from beings that threatened the entire multiverse, consuming universes and timelines during their fight. It takes at the very least a universe busting level attack to knock around Super Sonic, and Mario doesn't have anything even close to that. Super Sonic is also several dozen times faster then light as seen by him going from earth to the asteroid belt in just a few seconds, and even base Sonic has shown on several occasions to be casually FTL and is durable enough survive a collapsing black hole. Super Sonic also doesn't run out of juice very easily, as in Sonic Advance we see him fly off into space and remain in the Super Form for a few weeks without dropping. It's likely tied to Sonic's stamina in general, which IDW has shown us that he can keep running nonstop for days without rest if he's pushed like that. Sonic also has a ton of powerups just like Mario, from the more well known ones like the shields and invincibility and speed up, to less known ones like rocket boots and spring boots and all the super OP gems from 06. If you look at Sonic's history he has just as many if not MORE gimmicks then Mario, so this point should really be a tie. Also, Cappy doesn't really work on boss enemies unless they're already weakened, and Sonic would very much fall under that category. Paper and RPG Mario are completely different versions of the character, and if you want to use those you should also use Archie Sonic who beat his own shadow in a boxing match and reset the entire multiverse. Using non-canon material isn't at all fair for these kind of debates. I really don't see how Mario can handle a MFTL nigh-invulnerable god. Even if we restrict Sonic to his base form, is there literally any way for Mario to tag Sonic? Or hit him with enough force to hurt him? If he can casually survive falls from space and the inside of a black hole I don't think anything in Mario's arsenal could even make him flinch.

I think the issue with this ‘matchup’ is that these two are like the worst characters to powerscale. Cause there’s just too much crap that they have on them, and most of it heavily relies on the persons own interpretation of said feat. Making any conclusion just something completely opinionated no matter what. Most of the debate that I see comes from people arguing over what feats count, what iterations of the characters count, and the ‘actual level’ of those feats. This, is probably why this debate to me will likely be an endless discussion. Especially as more and more games on these two come out that just adds more to the pile that people can use to twist into their own arguments.
