Yes. Steve Howe is not the original guitarist. That would be the late, great Peter Banks. Chris Squire is no longer with us and Jon Anderson was kicked out of the band. The very band he started.
YES a fantastic group only has one member , guitarist Steve Howe who is currently touring as YES but are more like a tribute band. Singer Jon Anderson tours on his own with new musicians.Key board player Rick Wakeman also tours on his own doing solo projects. Drummer Alan White and Fantastic Bass player Chris Squire both passed away. RIP Evangelist and former drummer for Leslie West Vagrants Roger Mansour
Steve Howe wasn't even an original member of Yes. He joined the group replacing original member Peter Banks; therefore, Yes should also be included in this list of no original members left.
Let's not forget Lynyrd Skynyrd. Especially when noting that the last surviving original member in Gary Rossington passed away just a couple weeks ago.
@2v_5r Not an original and didn't even stick around long enough to play on any of their 70s albums. The original 5 are Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Al Collins, Larry Junstrom and Bob Burns.
Worked at a bar in the 90s. Molly Hatchet played there one time.they showed up over 2hours late. Charged for autographs..he next day the Ramada inn called wanting to know where they went because they stole all the TVs from their rooms .you could not have paid me enough to go see them
This is the fake butt rock version of the band led by Bobby Ingram, I would never pay to see them. Now the original band from the 70s and 80s were great, one of the best southern rock bands. RIP
Iron Butterfly. When Ron Bushy was ill and could not tour any more. This was a few years ago. Not sure what they are doing currently. Ron Bushy's passing was overshadowed by another drummer's passing (Charlie Watts).
There's no one left from the original lineup but founder MICK (not Mike) Jones is still in the band. Ok. You missed an obvious one. YES. Nobody from the original band remains in the band any longer.
@@cindydahl9635 True, Howe wasn't an original member. But c'mon, he's been around since 1970. He performed on the vast majority of Yes' work including all of their major works. He's not exactly a Johnny-come-lately.
I loved the drifters. I’m 71 years old now but at the time my brother was 10 years older than I was and that’s the music that was on the radio and we loved it.
Oh yeah, two more to add: The Guess Who. No original members in the touring version of this band. Original drummer Garry Peterson records with the band but does not tour with them (when I saw them earlier this year, Tesla's drummer Troy Luccketta sat in on drums). They have a new album set to be released this summer. Original bass player Jim Kale occasionally records with them, but has not toured with them in a very long time. Also Whitesnake has no original members except for lead singer David Coverdale, whose health is somewhat questionable.
I'm surprised they didn't mention Toto . They start, then stop and each time they did that, they'd return with new faces in their lineup. Steve Lukather is really the most active original member that's consistently on stage. As for David Paich Toto is still his band but he doesn't tour anymore (make sporadic appearances on stage) and Joe Williams is the 3RD primary singer in the high tenor position who came after original Bobby Kimball and 2nd singer Fergie Fredericksen. Joe Williams is NOT an original member.
How can they be the same name without the original members or even second string members? Do they buy the name? Does the record company own the name and just fill it with whomever is available?
Little River Band springs to mind. The name was purchased by a member who was in there in the early/mid 80's and hasn't performed with any of the original members for decades.
@Christopher Bingham kind of they said in 2014 that they were finished after the release of their final album “The Endless River” they did release a new single last year to benefit Ukraine but the name was probably used only to bring more attention, getting it more money, which all went to helping Ukraine
Bobby Ingram of Molly Hatchet was in The Danny Joe Brown Band in 1980 on their one and only album, featuring the classic track "Edge of Sundown." He and current Hatchet keyboardist John Galvin were both in that band, with Galvin also being a studio only member of Hatchet until 1987, when he officially joined the group full time.
Here's another one: THE MANHATTANS, known for "There's No Me Without You" and "Shining Star". The only member still alive is lead singer Gerald Alston, who joined after the original lead singer George 'Smitty' Smith resigned and passed away soon afterward. All the founding members are gone.
I got to meet Bill Pinckney a few years before he passed away at a Blues club in Humble, Tx called Cactus Moon (a warm-up for a tent revival show that “The Original Drifters” -although legally called Bill Pinckney And The Original Drifters then - were doing the following Sunday). They blew everyone away! Myself included.
as long as the music gets played as close to the original recording as possible and people enjoy themselves I'm OK with it but as for me personally I would not pay big money to see a glorified tribute band...if I am not really familiar with the band I would do a deep dive into their history and decide whether or not to go... usually if the lead singer (but not always) isn't still with the band I wont go or maybe the bands namesake or main song writer..big personality..lead guitar etc depending on that particular band..cant really answer but I would know...But I will never pay up to see a band that has no members on the albums that I like...NEVER
Little River Band is another band that qualifies for this list. They formed in 1975 with Beeb Birtles on guitar and vocals, Grahan Davidge on lead guitar, Graeham Goble on guitar and vocals, Dave Orams on bass, Derek Pellici on drums and Glenn Shorrock on lead vocals. Wayne Nelson joined the band in 1980 on bass and is now the longest tenured member in the band. There hasn't been an original member in the band since 1997.
Peter Beckett, the singer of PLAYERS 1978 NUMBER 1 HIT "BABY COME BACK" joined LRB from 1991 to 1998. LRB even included "BABY COME BACK " in their setlist during that time. Beckett was not original member but people remember that song. Beckett and original bassist Ronn Moss (ex Ridge Forrester
@@waltersimmons946 Didn't know that. Australian singer John Farnham had replaced Glenn Shorrock as lead vocalist in LRB form 1982-1987, and Shorrock did return to the band for a time 1987-1998.
@Steve Gallo Your information is correct. But Peter Beckett did NOT join LRB to become their lead singer . That never happened. Years before Beckett joined LRB, he was in his own band PLAYER from 1977 to 1982, which made 4 albums and broke up till 1996 . But Beckett was actually writing songs for LRB for years up until he joined in 1990. He joined, replacing a guitarist who had left . I forget the name at this moment, but no, Beckett did NOT become the lead singer. They actually featured him in their concerts when they played "BABY COME BACK." Some of those concerts are on RU-vid. But again, Beckett joining LRB did not alter the structure of LRB or who the singers were.
@@waltersimmons946 Beckett must have joined to replace either Birtles or Goble who were on guitars or possibly lead guitarist Davidge. LRB did go through a number of lineup changes starting in 1980 when Nelson took over on bass. Birtles, Goble and Shorrock did all reunite a few years ago but are prohibited from using the name of the band they founded.
@Steve Gallo You're mostly likely correct. Beckett joined in 1990 so like I mentioned I couldn't remember his predecessor by name , but that's how Beckett came in. See, his band PLAYER ceased by 1983. So Beckett started writing songs for other artists like the song Olivia Newton John sang on the"TWO OF A KIND " movie. The soundtrack song was called "Twist of fate" that was written by Beckett and he's played that song with his revamped version of PLAYER in the last few years but he doesn't sing it Jawn Starr a guy, the keyboard player in his band sang that song. But Beckett had written songs 🎵 for LRB for years back then, and obviously, they felt his writing and singing plus guitar playing fit their style. Wayne Nelson played bass on Becketts 1991 solo album which called BECKETT it was his first solo album ever. I bought it in early 1992 and it really is very good . If you get the chance go on RU-vid and he does a version of "BROTHER LOUIE" which was done years earlier by that group THE STORIES. I believe you'll like it Beckett officially left LRB by 1998.
Speaking for myself, I count band members from the first album as original members. Too many bands have gone through line changes long before they release there first album. A lot of bands have members that play in other bands unit they release an album or two.
One more to add, but some might not think they fit this list: A cappella vocal group Rockapella (the theme to Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?) also has no members left from their original lineup. The longest serving original member is tenor/lead vocalist and chief songwriter Scott Leonard.
Generally, your stuff is good! I don't think you sent Mick Jones a very good send off in my opinion. I don't mean to be picky but let's see what you can jam with and whom you can jam with when you are 80 years old! Don't call somebody that is not to generate, I'm reliable. Just getting out of bed after the age of 60 is a challenge! Take care and God bless
I seen bands Come apart for alot of reasons it goes with the territory replacing one member still could have the same magic but more than that my experience the magic is gone only the name of the band is carrying revised group..
Wrong !! Foreigner dominated the charts from 1977 to 1988. Lou put out 2nd solo album LONG HARD LOOK in 1989. Does anyone out there recall "JUST BETWEEN YOU AND ME "? Lou Gramm left Foreigner in May of 1990. In October 1989, Lou Gramm performed "Just between you and me " also "True blue love" on the ARSENIO HALL SHOW, and Lou was still a member of Foreigner. That clip can be found and seen on RU-vid.
The Allmman Brothers Band has no original members since the death of Greg and Trucks sev' years ago. But their kids are great musicians I hope they go as Allman Brothers 2.0.
As far as I know, the Allmans haven't toured in close to 20 years. But they do have two original members that are on this side of the grass, Jaimoe and Dickey Betts, even though they are no longer in the band.
