I really admire you for your positivity... I have scoliosis (about 38/40 degrees, S shape) but I'm full of denial, I don't talk about it, I refuse to think about it, I even stopped physiotherapy because I couldn't stand knowing I have a problem. It's really stupid, I know, but it makes me feel bad so I'm just doing the worst thing possible: nothing. Luckily I don't have any pain buy I didn't know breathing problems and constipation may be linked to it so thank you for that ahahaha I really hope I can feel comfortable with it some day, you're my inspiration 💕

@@giada3598 oh man no you're definitely not alone on this! 💜 I'm currently 7 years or so into CFS and a lifetime of an assortment of health issues and it's literally only this year that I'm started learning how to turn towards all my health stuff and learn how to best work with it and stop trying to run away from it all or hope my brain would do some sort of placebo thing if I just pretend I'm healthy 😂 I've started to have a shift in perspective but it's taken me my whole life to reach the point where I'm ready to try and move past denial. Still happens though, I'm currently in bed with an assortment of symptoms because I ignored my body again yesterday lol but hey I got to see Aladdin sooo swings and roundabouts...? Facing this stuff can be scary, I know my denial is rooted in all sorts of emotional stuff and internalised ableism so it's taking time and work. I know I also struggled with the fact that everyone I was looking to for help was talking about acceptance being the first step as if it was the easiest part, but none of them were saying how and they all seemed to have magically done it early on which has been far from my experience. But we're all on our own paths with this stuff 💜💜💜

I don’t have scoliosis but do have a messed up back drew to a childhood accident. I fell over the banisters age two and broke my arm. We didn’t realize at the time the force of the fall and angle I landed had knocks my collar bone and some vertebra slightly off. As I grew they got pulled further into a twisted and compressed position. My mum has mild scoliosis though and took me to see an osteopath when I was about 10. She noticed and offered to fix one of the problems but I freaked out because she seemed to be basically saying she’d dislocate my twisted collar bone and reset it -meaning less stress on the affected vertebrae in my neck and the bundle of muscles nerves in my shoulder. I went back years later after years of headaches, back pain, and should issues but sadly it was too late to fix as I was full grown and set. Lesson to be learned; always double check children when they have a bad fall even if their back seems okay at first.

A friend at school had scoliosis. She had surgery, and a steel rod was inserted in her back. Her torso was then encased in plaster for months. When she had the plaster cast removed boobs fell out! She hadn't had them when she had surgery, but they had developed whilst she was encased. Things seemed to be going well, but after a year they noticed her spine was pulling the metal rod out of shape and deforming the rod!

Your Increased Lumbar Lordosis is the reason why you are more comfortable/walk easier when wearing a medium height wedge or heel! It takes pressure off of your tendons & muscles which probably feel a bit tight after wearing complete flats or being barefoot for a long period!! A low wedge which has a sturdy ankle buckle to ensure your feet are secure, your ankles feel as though you have some support (esp. since yours are a bit weak) & the sole is one piece (there isn’t a cutout in when looking at the side of the sole between the ball of your foot & the heel) with a nice gradual slope is actually ideal! I know it brings some relief as I have heard you mention that smallish heels are more comfortable& you feel more secure. Wedges are perfect for summer, so wear them wile the weather permits as much as you want! (Unless your MD has said differently, then of course...ignore me)! 🤗💜

Weird, I was told by a doctor not to wear heels because of my increased lumbar lordosis. I find 3"+ hard to even stand in (and any stiletto heels no matter the height; I need the big '90s/back-in-fashion block heels-and it's still challenging, but that's partly due to the shoes always being too loose on me; I need very secure shoes). I also have a congenital muscular dystrophy-type disease that may contribute, but I could walk in 4" heels prior to the scoliosis/increased lordosis becoming apparent much easier than I can walk in 2" heels now. I tried wedges a couple times both before and after scoliosis/increased lordosis was apparent and had difficulty; only wore both pairs of wedges 1-2 times each before giving up. I want my 15 year old body back. -_-

No symptoms?? Yeah right! My scoliosis developed when I was in elementary school, with my diagnosis in 2nd grade. I have always had back, shoulder, neck, and hip pain. I know my hEDS contributes significantly, but scoliosis sucks on top of everything. My collar bone and ribs jut out far more on one side of my body. My lower back was constantly on fire as a kid (and still now), and I too hated carrying my very heavy backpack. I weighted my backpack in middle school and it was an astounding 22lbs, while I only weighted 85lbs. So rough. Thanks for the cheery and informative video as always, Jessica. This is a wonderfu videol! I've been asking my mother for some of her notes on the hospital stay when I had surgery for my scoliosis since I plan on making a video about that sometime in the future. I spent a bit more than two years in a Boston-brace/corsett but when I was refered to a larger hospital to talk about surgery they told me that the brace was doing NOTHING for me since my type of scoliosis wouldn't be helped by it anyway... That's great to hear after I've been crying and fighting with my family because it hurt, gave me sores and stuff etc for almost THREE years. (sorry for the caps) I was also told that my back pain wasn't in any way connected to the scoliosis because "scoliosis doesn't hurt"

I always get so irritated when I hear doctors or people in general say that scoliosis doesn't cause any pain. I'm in pain 24/7. Also I've seen pictures of an orca and a fish with scoliosis which is very interesting! Also also, I'm very happy you made this video because I feel like scoliosis isn't talked about much, especially when it comes to adults who didn't have the surgery!

I had chronic back and leg pain for 15 years before I was treated. About 10 years in I saw an orthopedic surgeon and he said I had "some scoliosis" but that it "wasn't that bad" and I was "faking my pain". Come to find out later that one of my legs is also longer than the other and the combined forces were pulling my hips to be constantly out of place! I literally walked around with my hips out of place for...years? Shoutout to the physical therapist who finally figured that out and gave me a shoe lift and showed me how to pop my hips back in. Probably the most life changing medical professional I've ever seen. Oh and I never had an X-Ray! Because the surgeon just told me to stop whining and go home. Anyway love your relentless optimism you are absolutely inspirational.

The fact that you did a video on it exactly 6 years and 2 days after my scoliosis surgery (C curve, 54* to 17*) makes me feel less alone. I don't regret it saved me from a possible wheelchair but there were so many things no one told me about that it is a struggle. Thank you. Also the gay jokes are a mood lol ily!

I dont have scoliosis, I almost have the opposite lol? My neck is losing it's natural curve and becoming straighter. My chiropractor told me for every degree of curvature lost, 5lbs of pressure are added to my spine, or something like that. I've had migraines for 8 years now. I've seen several chiropractors over those years, but only my most recent one actually is helping me get rid of my migraines, instead of just treating the symptoms. I see her once a month where she adjusts my spine, then a physical therapist does some muscle work to help break up the 8 years of scar tissue in my neck. And everyday I have a set of physical therapy excercise I have to do, and I need to spend at least 15 minutes laying on a special orthopedic device called a deneroll that uses gravity to retrain my neck to curve correctly. So finally after all these years, my migraines have finally decreased in severity and frequency! I went from daily migraines, to being 71 days migraine free!

I have scoliosis with a 39 degree curve and a 27 degree curve and I have the Boston brace (it’s sucks). I have been wearing it for almost a year. My back has a lot of pain. But luckily for my curve is a S so my body is pretty symmetrical but not completely. But yeah it’s pretty painful in my whole back and neck. Thank you for sharing your scoliosis with us it’s always good to see other people with the same thing as me!

The title... omg. I love this video already. Well, I mean... you made it so of course I love it. ❤️ I have scoliosis from spina bifida so I relate moooore than you know. Editing this one more time: I had the absolute worst day today and am dealing with some really scary medical issues that could potentially result in the loss of a body part (will spare the details). I’m in a lot of pain and coming home from work to see a video from you perked me up. Thank you for being a bright light for so many. Spending the evening in the emergency room but your videos are keeping me from freaking out.

yaass finally a jessica video i can relate to! we had known about mine since i was pretty young and it got a lot worse during puberty, i had a brace when i was around 12 or 13 but i was incredibly uncomfortable in it because of how constricting it was for me, so u didn’t wear it as much as i should of. but i’m a go big or go home type of person so i knew i would have to get surgery someday anyway, and my spinal fusion done when i was 15. life is a lot better but it’s still a daily battle through pains and figuring out what postures work best for me. like, i can’t lie down on my stomach and lean up, like to look at my phone or type on my laptop, for too long or it feels impossible to get back up

The reason your pelvis looks like that is because the image from an x-ray isn't taken from the front, like a camera. The x-rays pass through your body and the image is captured on a plate under your body. So the parts of your body closer to the plate appear larger.

I love that you have humor just like me with the body/spine stuff. I have kyphoscoliosis, it's just all messed up like you describe. I try my best but no amount of "trying" to sit straight up or anything will help correct the situation. I giggled when you say 'straight" and then the rainbow appears! I love you!

Cool to see scoliosis content, I have a very minor case so I don't have many symptoms and haven't experienced the different treatments that other people go through, so despite having it I don't know much about scoliosis!

Skeleton pride!! Another condition that can cause scoliosis is congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) - which is when your diaphragm stops growing and allows your abdominal organs to move into your chest cavity, which the spine has to then grow around. I was born with a c-shaped spine that became s-shaped as I got older.

So glad I stumbled upon your video! I have scoliosis too and I learned so much more than I ever have just by watching your video. Thank you so much! My parents and I chose to have the surgery when I was about 15. Like you said, there is a lot to consider before making a decision on treatment and each case of scoliosis is slightly (or majorly) different. The recovery from surgery was painful, however once I healed I was able to do just about anything I could do before surgery. I still have pain but not as much and I grew about 3 inches. I laugh when people compliment my posture now because I have the titanium rods to thank ;) I can’t take credit. I am so sorry that you suffer from scoliosis and admire you for your strength and courage over the years. BRAVO for making this enlightening video and sharing your story 💕 Wishing you happiness and health because they’re usually interrelated, and more importantly because you deserve it! :)

Firstly, thank you for making this video. It's freakin hilarious but also taught me many things about myself, my back and my body in general. I was told at a compulsory school medical, at age 11, that I had a slight curve in my spine. However nothing was ever done about it and I was never officially diagnosed with scoliosis. I became used to my back pretty much constantly aching through my teens. Skip over several debilitating incidents, concerning my back, through the years and now, at age 42 I find myself really worried about my mobility and independence as I age. What really wiped the smile off my face though, was that list of symptoms that appeared on screen in the first part of the vid as I have experienced every one of them and never attributed them to my back issues. Anyway sorry for the lengthy comment but this video really taught me things,

I've been talking to professionals for years who tell me that my spine is "not that bad". And that any pain I experience is due to my "laziness" [My "laziness" which was brought on by the pain and lack of breath I experienced]. I made a similar video to yours last June for scoliosis awareness month, and while researching for it, I found that a lot of my symptoms are caused by my scoliosis. It's agony :( This was a really informative video!

I have to say as someone with several chronic illnesses and body conditions this channel is a breath of fresh air. I get you on the side effects of body problems as someone with pectavus excavacum. My chest caves inwards and it affects my heart and lungs greatly. Ontop of my fibromyalgia and other chornic conditions its hard to be active and stay positive. So thanks for being such a force for awareness and sharing your story.
