Paul Scholes couldn't last a month at Oldham was criticising serial winner José Mourinho (27 major trophies ) I do wonder what Paul has to say about Man Utd performance today, 18 shots conceded. I also found that strange that he should find it boring watching matches which featured teams that his club would have to face. No wonder they only won one out of the seven. He must have known the size of the task he was facing before taken the job on... Not like owning a level seven team with your mates, bringing in ringers who are a grade above the level your team is playing at and then climbing the leagues. Other club managers will know the names of every opposition player, what their physical and mental strengths and weaknesses are... and exploit these facts as best they can...

Regardless of whether he was a good manager or not he didn’t bottle it. From what he’s said he’s been told to play senior players or whatever player by someone in the club. It’s actually strong of him to step down as he didn’t want to be told what to do by others. He’s the manager he chooses the team and if he didn’t feel like he could do what he wanted then there’s no point him being there. Getting a lot of undeserved stick IMO.

Lol love how the MSM make excuses for Scholes. He’s great a criticising managers, extremely poor at being one clearly.

It takes a totally different set of cognitions to coach football compared to playing it. Scholes' being was based on his football ability. Convey those skills to others, communicate and translate for the right outcome is a million miles away from just doing it automatically on the field. Its harder to be a coach than a player and I've done both.

scholes didn't get backed, he's actually suited to be a better coach than lamps/gerrard, he was always better than these two as well, needs to go to a slightly better club imo

Ur deluded. He’s too nice as a gaffer. U can’t get funds at Oldham mate, otherwise Oldham would have been in the premier league. Scholes thought he could walk in and become a legend. I’m pretty sure anyone could raise Oldham up the leagues with a bit of money.

Not all great players can manage. Scholes may not be as critical of gaffers in the PL from now on. Macca could use a brush with reality too. #PunditsAreCrapManagers

Excellent player in his prime, but always quiet, inarticulate, no charisma. Never a leader. Keeping your head down and grinding it out on the pitch is not the blueprint for a successful future in management - the only surprise here is how quickly he gave up. No fight.

Everyone with such firm opinions. None of us know what happened. Paul seems like a humble guy, ready to defend the players. Mourinho was a world class, experienced manager, not player. This was Scholes' first ever job as manager. Can't compare the two. Give him a break.

People love to hate. Scholes has made it easy for them with his constant criticism of other managers but if what he says is true, that the owners were commanding that some players shouldnt play I can understand why he quit. A manager needs freedom to make these decisions on his own.
