Holy dude you cracked the code. There is a comment above where they discuss how it is possible that elspeths spark ignited in a plane-specific afterlife, since that never happened before noone knows the exact rules for that and most are not sure if it works or not. But thats the answer. Ashiok banished Elspeth into another realm, put her in an extremely dangerous position and could so reignite her spark.

The little girl was her remembering the trauma of the phyrexian invasion that took place on her plane I think, you can tell that girl was supposed to be her cuz of the jewels on her wrist matching elsepeth’s funeral mask

@@blazewalker7313 That is true. Heliod chose Elspeth as his champion to destroy Xenagos. But when she did, Heliod got scared of her power that might rival his own so he killed her

Blaze walker Heliod chose her as his Champion to stop Xenigos, since none of the other gods could find him. After the fight in Nyx and Elspeth killed him, Heliod came down and, knowing Elspeth has the same power (the Spark) as Xenigos, he was scared she’d try the same trick as Xenigos did and tried to kill her. After Heliod ran Elspeth through, Ajani pulled her out onto Nyxthos where she then died. Because she died on Theros, she went to the Underworld, unlike Xenigos. Because Xenigos died on Nyx, he vanished. Xenigos is no more. We can only ever get new cards of him from supplement products now.

totally not close to this, this may take almost a month (just to animate 2 min) the netflix series will have to be done weakly or so, and have to match speech and story telling

Diogo Henriques have you see the Dragon Prince? If it’s anything like that, I’d be a happy camper. Heck, inversely a set built around that show would be pretty cool, too.

@@diogohenriques114 Netflix and Hulu series are actually done a little differently than conventional weekly releases. Entire seasons are already finished before they start streaming anything and they just submit on whatever schedule they planned for it.

Lester Jester I hope like heck that, if they decided on the same style as the dragon prince, they don’t purposefully lower the frame rate again, that’s the one thing I didn’t like about the show and it almost made me not watch it.

This one isn't even good. Do you remember how well done the Rav at War or Eldraine trailers were? This one's animation is far weaker.

@@lenajohnson6179 The original Ashiok card allows you to cast the cards you exiled, so flavor/mechanics ressonance is maintained if you assume Ashiok intends to use Espelth to torment the gods

I'm talking about how they set up this event to showcase the cards and only Ashiok players get to test the stuff out, because all their cards cancel out everything in Elspeth's deck... No joke, my first game Ashiok exiled my elspeth and then played it... really highlighting that escape mechanic? Not saying Ashiok was done wrong, saying maybe a different configuration of decks to better highlight what WORKS about the cards was in order instead of just forcing players to watch Ashiok play with all your stuff. IMO blue is a terrible color to include in these sorts of showcase events in general since blue is by and large the oppressive color and makes games enjoyably for anyone playing against it EVEN if you win.

Ashiok might actually be helping Elspeth. She's about to cross the barrier into the world of the living as a Returned, which would result in her losing her memories and becoming a gray-skinned melty-faced zombie (Like the little girl in the trailer).

@@Spaced92 I hope the novel for Theros is as good as the Eldraine one, I really liked the way Oko was written. While he was the antagonist it wasn't always that clear and he had a pretty interesting personality. I want to forget those War of the Spark novels lol

Let me resume some important stuff: - Theros is like mythological Greek - People who dies on Theros goes to the Underworld and they can return as zombies called "Returneds" wearing masks made of gold - Elspeth was the champion of Heliod the sun's god, but she was manipulated, betrayed and killed by him - Ashiok, this genderless entity planeswalker makes nightmares

We’re revisiting Theros, the Greek mythology-inspired plane. The woman, Elspeth Tirel, was the protagonist of the original Theros story, which ended with her death. The people with golden masks are those who return from the Underworld.

@@fifthcanuck1128 Elspeth isn't from Theros. I believe it's heavily implied she's from New Phyrexia or from a Phyrexian dominated plane. She teleported out of there and very briefly landed on Theros, where she watched Helios battling a god and his spear fell to the earth where she picked it up and then dipped to another plane with it, ending up on Bant. There she trained as a knight and went on a few adventures with her buddy and best leonin pal Ajani to Theros. They were both there for different reasons I think but basically she killed a BAMF Hydra named Polukranos at the request of Helios and Helios made her his champion. Then this other planeswalker Xenagos appears and the scene and somehow figures out how to become a god. He starts causing havoc and she and Ajani are forced to take him down and destroy his god body. Hurray! But then! In a huge plot twist no one saw coming, Heliod turns on Elspeth and kills her. This would normally be the end for anyone who dies (RIP Dack) but on Theros they got an Underworld and somehow Elspeth hasn't gone zombie like everyone else. Also that shadow mist woman was doing some scheming in the original Theros block and plans on putting the entire plane to sleep so she can feed on their nightmares. Cause that is what makes her strong apparently. And Ajani, who escaped Heliod basically went around Theros preaching that Heliod was a traitor of gods and denouncing his name and shit like that so Heliod would be forgotten or something of that nature because the Theros god get their powers from the people who worship them.

@@kurtmcconnell4473 If only the game was as good as the trailers... The game is so freaking boring and inherently flawed because of lands that they had to make mulligan to punish players who are unlucky enough to draw 7 lands or no lands whether or not their mana base is mathmetically on point...

I mean, even if they did it like Hearthstone, for example, there's still the element of luck. And changing that dynamic will affect the whole game. Magic's not for everyone. And that's cool.

@@jaysherman9138 the actual lore goes deeper than the novels, I think everyone knows that. It's a matter of a very sophisticated multidimensional art style evolving over time to emerge into it's own universe that makes sense; the magic universe is definitely it's own thing. it is unfortunate that it is treated with disrespect now and then, but i think if you have "the eye" you can see the potential it has.

you can planeswalk even if you are dead i suppose, considering that most of the time the afterlife is considered a different plane of existence in most lores

Undead can't hold sparks. I don't know how that bears on this situation, but it feels worth mentioning. We did get alternate art for an old elspeth planeswalker card where she appeared to still be in the underworld. But she didn't have the mask on, so was she technically alive? I don't know the Theros underworld rules very well yet.

Daniel Medela You don’t need a spark to be able to travel between planes, you only need one to travel unassisted, so Ashiok could create something (like a mini planar bridge) that allowed Lazav to travel from plane to plane. Also, Artistically Expired, that would be amazing! Ashiok is my favorite character in magic, with Lazav in close second, and for them to be working together would be a dream come true. But the sad thing is, they’re both “evil” (or at least morally pragmatic) characters, with powers that should in theory be already near unstoppable (only weakness: plot armor), so that would never happen.

I think Ashiok is going to be puppeteering things behind the scenes rather than the main villain. If Elspeth kills Heliod (AKA Theros' Sun), that's gonna cause a lot of nightmares, and nightmares are Ashiok's jam.

Her and Erebos plus the blu black god ( dont remeber the name) that already worked with Ashiok in the previous Theros

I actually think they are going to be a "good" guy. I think in this trailer them dragging Elspeth under was a way to try and forcefully reignite her spark which it clearly worked if so
