Great video sam, ive met a few of them there photographers ha. You can only crop in and reposition if you film 4k and edit onto a 1080 timeline else it may pixelate, I use this all the time. Its a never ending learning curve our profession and the more you learn the more you forget at times
I don't know anything but I'm keen to learn so all your tips are brilliant.Your videos are by far the best for learning I've found. ( even though you don't wear a backwards baseball hat and throw east side hand signs all the time 😆)
😂😂 thank you. I’m so pleased you find these videos helpful. Stay tuned for plenty more on the way but if you have any questions, leave them here or on Instagram and I’ll try and make a video where possible 🎥
what I love about rules, that you can only brake the rules when you know the rules of how to brake it to stand out of the crowd. Key here is really master the rules > then try different things and see how they compared with the ones with rules, if they look better that is the new rule. Now tell me how many times I said the word Rules 🤣
I am a old man and that does give me perspective on all of this. It is obvious that photographers are in love with their gear and that has a bad effect on quality.. Even these tips as excellent as they are (they were just as important when I was a kid) will get you perfectly composed , framed and exposed cliches. Never the less a excellent back to the basics advice.
Plain language, easy to understand, wonderful examples and teachable moments-- and it's for free.... think this might be the first and last videography channel I sub to! Everyone else just feels condescending...!
Randomly came across this, really good video! Taken a break from filming so deciding to give my self a little refresher, really useful tips! While watching, something was bugging me about the street shots you used while describing symmetry, took me about 5 minutes to realise that It's down the road from me and I've filmed music videos there! 🤣🤯
Dude, Sam! You are an incredible youtuber. I'm so glad you started your channel because I love watching your content. All that to say, your ending pages have kept me moving through your videos time and time again. I think I'm on the 5th or 6th video now. Well done!
The dancing lady made it for me, I am a better filmmaker now. Your videos are fun and to the point. Keep em coming man. I dig the colors, the comp and the excellent tips. You rock!
Thanks so much! I’m pleased you enjoy them. Haha there was loads of dancing I cut out but maybe I could add it to another video 😂 thanks for watching. You rock!!! 💪🏻🎥🤩
it's interesting, i started my career as a graphic designer, and was always into photography, so composition has always been a thing i've leaned on and practiced. and since i got more into videography i just started going back to how i used to think as a graphic designer which the terminology may be a bit different but ultimately it's really the same stuff! so yeah, balance, white space/negative space, focus, flow, legibility, it's really exactly what you talk about here.
Hi my friend, with this video you gained a new follower: me LOL, so true everything you said in this video and soooooo muuuuch fuuuuuun. Best regards from a Venezuelan follower!
Simplicity is everything... My mentor was the DP for Orson Welles and Orson wanted simplicity.. Your advice is spot on.. Don't over use techniques you see on RU-vid.. It gets nauseating.. Just like the FPV pilots I've been seeing.. Overused nauseating, and used in the wrong application.. Great video
I recently found your channel and have watched a good few back-to-back. Often for me, I just about manage to hang onto the camera and record while pushing a lawnmower in the other hand
Thank you so much, Sam. These are great tips. Got a question, though. How do we reconcile following the rule of 3rds with having symmetry? Especially in situations where you're filming a speaker at an event... Cheers.
Hi. Good question… just remember these are just concepts. Don’t tie yourself down to them. It all depends on what the environment looks like and what type of image or feeling you want to convey. Try and few angles and see which looks best to you and go with that 🙏🏻
Solid content as always Sam 👍 still a bit on the fence about the skit bits, just not to my humor tastes. I think you're naturally funny already without having to rely on those. Always good info. Be careful about how often you reference visually your lists.
I really appreciate the full effort expended shooting B Roll. Those extra hours spent doing that is how a channel explodes. You have inspired my wife and I to go the extra mile for her latest video. Thanks!
Thanks Jesse. I’m pleased I have inspired you. It does make a big difference to the viewer. Keeps them engaged and also helps explain what you’re talking about. Thanks for watching. All the best to you both 🙏🏻🤩🎥
Can you make a video on mobile videography? Beginners don't have camera at first before they buy any camera they want to try on mobile.. So..... Can you make video on mobile videography?
I’m filming with my iPhone since 4 years and I’m looking to up my game so just doing your channel and OmG what a great channel. Your style reminds me of the FilmBooth which I also love watching for helpful ideas and inspo for filming. Thanks - I’m your new subscriber
Hey Sam, I began following you before purchasing my S5, your reviews definitely helped my great decision. You consistently put out great content and even friendly reminders to all freely. Keep up the great work!
Hear hear! As a rookie videographer, I am still doing so many of the mistakes you mention 😅. I really like the way you explain things and your cool, calm and collected demeanour. Thank you for sharing these great videos.
I am surprised how similar the mistakes that you said you made, are, to what I have done. In addition to what you have suggested, I add in some macro shots to my videos these days.
Very good tips and funny presentation! Also your previous video with lens was excellent ,showing that we spent too much useful time on chosing camera ,and the reason i started watching your channel was the lumix s5 i am going to buy and as i can see you still have it
Amazing tips, and thanks for giving them 🙏🏾🙏🏾 I was working in a series of short movies during July, and the director always wanted something I'm the foreground, and I remember telling him that not all of them adds something to the story, and we had a little disagreement, but I think some times people tend to miss used it a lot, because it looks cool, so happy that you point it out
Ah good on ya 👌🏻 I suppose when someone has a vision, it’s hard for them to see what other people might see. Ya have to take a step back sometimes and think what’s best for the story/viewer. Thanks for commenting 🤩🙏🏻🎥
You using the gimbal for the first time is so relatable, had me in stitches. That is literally me now! Bloody amazing content Sam, thank you. You're funny and silly but these tips are gold. Much appreciated.
What if we shoot a video with a natural environment that does not allow it to meet the requirements above, for example, there is no leading line, symmetry?
Hi Robert. I use the Polar Pro Peter McKinnon v2. I’ve found they’re the best for me in terms of image quality and use ability… I wish it didn’t have his name on it though 😂🎥
Hello , amazing video , very funny , great tip , everything you explain very help full , thank you so much Sam , great job , big like 24 , absolutely great channel , have nice week
Man I like you a lot but this 'hook' style that keeps me anxious with ananswered questions is really annoying please don't do it i'm just skipping ahead to see and then leave 🥹
