My first 10 pedal, bought in late 1984 for my Aria II bass. I think my third pedal overall and was more modern than the little DOD 250 OD I had. I bought it because my store was not able to carry Boss. I was super impressed with my friend’s HM-2. We did a side by side at the time and decided that the Super has less clarity on the top middle - it has kind of a muffle or blanket sound - but it was cool for bass. I later switched to guitar and four track production and had IMO the best Ibanez 10 pedals - the amazing MOStortion that I used almost like an amp sim before that word existed and the way out modulation delay II. The latter ended up in my bag when I was doing free improv around 1990. I was not strictly a metal person by the time I started buying these things. I used the SML mostly to emulate Blue Cheer, at least in my head. Mind also that testing 40 years earlier - younger components and ears - can mean a whole heck of a lot and there are always part variances. I’m not sure how Maxon (the pedal maker) controlled their stock either.

I have a joyo ultimate drive it adds tons of gain to my cheap acoustic lead g20 amp now I definitely need to find a 80's Ibanez Metal Screamer pedal.

Cool video. I have always bought any ibanez pedals 8,9, or 10 series i could find at pawn shops. Harder to find and prices have gone up. Last one I bought was a fl301 8 series flanger for 30 bucks found in a small town pawnshop.

Because some countries have NO SPEED LIMITS on their motorways - like the Autobahn, for instance. Plus some speed limits are much higher in some countries. Nice pedal vid tho!

I have an SM9, definitely an underrated pedal. I run the EQ and level full blast, gain around 10 o'clock, good shit. The only 10 series I own is the Bass Compressor, which is supposedly like the compressor/limiter with a faster attack, and it's the best sounding compressor I've ever owned

Sounds like it could benefit from more compression, saturation and complex harmonic distortion from additional gain stages. I remember someone telling me this pedal could match the tone of a Mark II C+ lol

The reason my 1998 Ford Mustang GT goes faster than the speed limit is because people drive like crap, nowadays and I have to get out in front of them all so they don't crash into me. Seriously, nobody uses turn signals anymore. They just wander in and out of lanes like there's nobody else on the road but them! The sooner I am away from them, the better! My first pedal board had a Dunlop Cry-Baby, a BOSS Chorus, this Ibanez Super Metal and a crazy, home-made echo box played through an old, early 70's Peavey amp head into a ROSS 4X12 cabinet with Jensen speakers in it. I thought it sounded great but, then I was in my early twenty's and didn't really know anything.

You need to try the DS10 Distortion Charger. When you try it, you should use a mono "Y" cable in both the "A" and "B" outputs and run that to the input of your amp. When you combine the "A" and "B" outputs into one mono signal the sound is fuller. Also, the enhance knob on the pedal is active when the pedal is off. This knob gives the signal some brightness almost like a buffer. Works well if you use the pedal as boost like you would with a tube screamer. This pedal can be used as a tube screamer style boost or a stand alone distortion unit into a clean amp. There is enough gain on top with the "A" and "B" outputs combined into one mono signal or you can run the "A' and "B" outputs to two amps.

I only know the Super Metal from Vinnie Moore's first albums and the Metal Charger from George Lynch Back for the attack era ... never tried any, but would love to track them down...better than the Boss HM2 or the DOD American Metal

Check eBay, dude. I don’t know where you’re located, but there’s lots of Japanese sellers that sell them for very prices, and several of them even offer free shipping to me here in the U.S. I just snagged a Maxon SM-01 Super Metal (an 80’s version that was only sold to the Japanese market) for $75, as well as an old Boss HM-3 that is also difficult to find here in the U.S. for $85. VERY fair prices for those pedals, and they both shipped free. I’ve been buying a fair amount of old pedals like this on eBay recently.

I had a TS-10. I bought it new around 1990 for $90. Hated it. Switch was iffy, made of cheap plastic, tone pot scratchy. Hardly used it. Decided to trade it a couple years ago. I didn’t realize John Mayer used them. (Cause Stevie Ray was using them when he died. Duh, most current model then) Much to my surprise they are getting stupid money for them. I got my $90 back for it at GC. They sell for like $190! Go figure? They only made them for a short time cause the TS-9 was better.
