As promised, on this video I play for you the performances I designed for the Montage OS3.5 and the MODX OS2.5 updates! I also play some of my favourite new Smart Morph performances from other sound designers!

I have opened the box and a beautiful Yamaha Montage 7 was awaiting me ... WOW! What an Experiance xoxox. The build quality is absolutely top notch and the keyboard is butter smooth action. I first want for the Choirs and the Guitars + Pianos WOW! Lots to learn and looks full on at first glance but I will learn as I go with your help and the community online xoxo

Great timing for OS3.5. I’m currently in week 11 of Furlough so I have been attempting some ENO inspired ambient soundscapes and these new smart morph sounds are ideal for this as well as many others already in Montage. thanks for your input into these Dom😊

Excellent! Great job with the performances . I commented a few days ago on YAMAHA musicians forum how much I love the new performances. I love the FMX morpher. Its like getting a new sound engine.

I was experimenting with Smart Morph today, and I honestly believe that this could be a game changer for FM synthesis. It has been a pain in th A** before, with all that algorithms and operators and thousands of parameters. Now it's a breeze, an experimental journey where you can afford to just keep the snap shots that sound really great and discard the rest. Plus, the AI comes up with stuff that you probably would never have been able to design or even think of. Who would have thought that it is possible to do real cinematic scores with only FM? I think that Smart Morph will bring FM to its full potential!

@@DomSigalas - Mann! I can’t Wait! Question Dom? The pianos and Ep’s on the Montage seems thin and quiet. However, the FM engine, strings, choirs, leads, pads etc are VERY FULL. I know that you can tweak the pianos/ep’s, but when I tweak the velocity fr 64/64 to higher - it starts to distorts. Plz advise 😓

Hey Dom, is Yamaha coming out with Remote Control settings for FL Studio? It works with regular midi and audio, but I it would be cool if the Remote Control settings directly on the Modx worked for FL Studio.

LOVE THE 3.5 UPDATE ON MY MONTAGE, I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THE GLITCHY TRANSITION WHILE USING SMART MORPH. ITS KILLING ME! WOULD OF LOVE FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION, BUT IT JUST SOUNDS LIKE ITS CUTTING OFF ON A OLD KEYBOARD WHEN CHANGING PATCHES!

Jesus Movement I agree the glitches may not be ideal, but understand that this is a very experimental way of interacting with the existing engine of FM-X. During your sound design process, if a glitch is not what you are looking for, you will need to find the sweet spots that do work for you. This is intrinsic to any sound design, not just FM-X Morph.

If you want to avoid glitches, try selecting parts that sound similar to each other (e.g. pad and strings). In general, try experimenting, remember, Smart Morph is not only about morphing sounds in realtime but also generating tens of sounds out of a single part! And you can save them as 8 scenes and have a big palette of sounds from a single patch. But on the other side, it can really be the ultimate glitch machine! :)

Sometimes I think I came along too early in the game. My background is with the old FM synthesis system. How I'd love to get my hands on a Montage now! The thing was, some of us could picture where all of this was heading. It's taken something like 30 years to get to here, which is some journey into sound.

Hey Dom, Ideascale is bugged for me but I've got 2 ideas for the smart morph, would like your opinion: 1) Instead of the X,Y linear Superknob change, we should have the option to record touch screen movement data (on the color square) to be used either as a continuous loop that automates data while you play, or have it assigned to the super knob which in turn would generate a linear ramp that advances the user recorded data from start to finish. 2) 'Master' Smart morph feature - have a 'master' color square that would at the same time correspond to 8 part SM performance. Any change on the master SM controller will impact all parts simultaneously... thoughts?

@yotam cohen: I fully agree, the morph is a fantasic feature but as you say, due to the linear movement you can't use it to the fullest without making shortcuts like adding additional scenes or so! Omnisphere has the ' Orb' function which can be recorded. My Korg Oasys (2005...) is also capable of doing something like this, so it shoudn't be that difficul imo. My guess is that they already know this but just wanna 'keep' some feature for future updates so customers stay interested...... Btw, I really would like to give Yamaha lots of credits for their performance in regards to keeping the Montage up to date, expanding the features (for Free!!!) and listen to users.

I wish you could modulate sample/waveform parameters on the Montage/MODX; start point, end point, frequency, direction etc. They are sound design powerhouses but no access to sample/waveform parameters seems a significant omission. You could then start exploring things like wavetables, granular synthesis as well as the obvious applications for glitches and artefacts.

Hi Dom thanks for tour great job. Just a question. If I' m in live set at page best of modx 2.5 i can not have a seamless transition among all the performance that are indicate as SSS.Why? Is or a bug of my updating or I make wrong anything? Thanks

SSS cuts out when patches are over the max amount of parts. Modx = maximal 4 parts Montage = maximal of 8 It's not a bug it's just by design :-)

AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh I was supposed to do some programming, but NOW, I have not only to do some programming, but I have to also FIGHT WITH URGENT NEED to sit down to my montage and upgrade it and load all that stuff and play. OMG, can't stay that! :) So harsh training for my damaged free will!!! Dom, as always you are amazing. So, who created this Drone? And will you show us how to create at least few of those effects?

Hi Dom! If you save a morph ptch into the live set screen into a slot then the performance is collapses how to say, changing a lot of data, sounding differently. Is this a known bug? Or just mine have this issue? Thanks in advance!

Personally, i don´t like smart morph to morph live, since algorithm changes are pretty abrupt.... but it is truly a game changer for programming sounds. Pick 5 presets that contain characteristics you want, and you get endless possibilities!!!!

Only if you create a Super Knob Motion Sequence, but you can't record all the movements for now ;)

Great Dom.... Just a humble request. Can you make a video that how to make a song using Montage with Cubase with Montage connect and push back all that data to montage to get your song ready for the gig. I tried, but I am not able to understand the workflow and also if you can do the same thing on Montage only in standalone mode without using computer that how you record, save and do velocity edits, scene save, effects in Montage and ready your song for the gig. That will make our life hell easier cause you really know all and have a special unique mind and multiple talented artist and we are dumb. Thank you in advance.......... Have a great day :-)

It's very simple, just insert an USB memory stick into your montage, click on it when it appears and format it with the format utility. Remove it - then put it into your pc or mac, open it, go to yamahas support site and download the latest 3.5 os under the support pages. Then you unzip the downloaded file, transfer the 8N70OS_.PGM to the main directory of your USB memory. Turn the montage off - hold down the Utility + Arrow up button while turning on your Montage and wait for it to finish (look at the screen, it will tell you when it's done, (make sure you don't turn it off during this procedure or unplug or lose power, this can permanently brick your Montage). It's really that easy.

Very cool. I'm wondering about some things to check out after I upgrade. Like if you add a part 2 and want to program the super knob to fade between a morphed part 1 and the added part 2 what are the possibilities with the knob already so integrated in the morphed part?
