My go-to reverb is the Relab LX480 Dual Engine V4. As was mentioned, it's easy to mix in. My fave is twin delay into a Random Hall HD. I found a preset and did a few tweaks. Great audio. Plate, Soundtoys little plate that I've had, or super plate that I just got with the bundle.

Sonsig Rev-A is my favourite algorithmic reverb (ReLab again!). UVI's "Plate" is awesome and is neither algorithmic or IRs, but more like acoustically modelled... maybe worth comparing to Soundtoys new plate - heck, why not all the plates! 😉

In a full mix with many tracks you don't hear these subtle differences. Ii is surprising that top mixes were created with rather poor digital reverb devices in the 80th´s. So I think that cubase has really great onstock reverbs on board to deliver professionally mixes. great times for us!

It has the RMX16 sauce. RXM is a grainy reverb especially on that algo that excels at short ambiences like this. If you haven’t already, Try very short settings on the Roomworks with lower quality and increase the brightness. It should give you an approximation :)

Very interesting picks! I've been using Altiverb and Valhalla for a decade now but I really enjoyed these new ones. Would you say it is worth renewing my reverb arsenal, or those two are enough? I mean, the UI is way better and more intuituve, but what about the sound? Do you think the ones you awarded are sonically better than Altiverb and Valhalla?
@OKvalosound

Nice compliation! But I was wondering what could we expect more for the future? Technically we are at a point, where every kind of reverb in top quality is already available. Another plate emulation in 2033?
@CoopMusic247
@CoopMusic247 7 месяцев назад
I would imagine the next step is modular and morphing reverbs. Modular in that we can add modules on our own, but there are always ones in the presets including delays (taps, standards) (like Epic from CLA/Waves), granular frequency pitch shifting (granular we're already starting to see all over the place), sequenced gating/filters (like ShaperBox), otherworldly stuff like ones that get brighter, panning/width automation LFOs, negative reverbs for automatic reverse reverb into a sound effects (like Mirror from United Plugins), and like I said morphing like NeoVerb. I think we'll also start seeing adaptive reverbs for end listeners soon too. So if you take the song playing device to the kitchen or shower, you'll get less reverb, but take it to your bedroom and you'll get more ambience, then outside and something else.

arturias plates/springs are phenomenal. but in practice i mostly just use the built in convolution in bitwig for a lot of stuff. i want to get a new general purpose reverb because the built in one is dreadful. i don't actually really like Valhalla Vintage Verb for most stuff. its too lush for me. nimbus and phoenix suck imo, terrible interfaces. i dont want another convolution, I have reverberate and i just want something entirely algorithmic without having to load IRs. I'm almost thinking FabFilter Pro-R... might be a bad take though. the VSS4 sounds PHENOMENAL to my ears. I might have to go with that, need to weigh options.

The best sounding reverb is hands down the Lexicon PCM Native (PCM96 direct port) which is 15 years old now and wipes the floor with all other reverbs (as far as sound quality). The Spitfire guys did a blind shootout ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SM02GXXeHH0.html ) and it beat hardware like the Bricasti M7. I would take it over the TC 6000 which is in the same price range. Crystalline has a great interface but the actual reverb itself is just a single (very plain/boring) algo with dynamics/filters applied. I would never use it on anything (unfortunately) for that reason. Glow sounds ok, but while it gives that 'RMX 16' sound it really is a cheap knock-off facsimile of the original hardware unit. Personally, I like the Arturia LX24 to get that vintage 80s reverb sound, as the character is much closer to the original hardware (Lex 224) than Glow. I like Arturia SPRING-636 but my choice for springs would be AudioThing Springs which sounds amazing and is way more versatile. Fame sounded ok but, again, all those algorithms are available with Lexicon PCM Bundle (which is extremely CPU light and therefore negates the need for a 'studio reverb'). The reverbs I use (pretty much exclusively) that give me all the variation I need are: Lex PCM bundle, LX24, Springs and FOG convolver 2 for more experimental stuff (where was that category Dom? ;)
@DomSigalas
@DomSigalas Год назад
I love the PCM Lexicons. They are top notch. However, they haven’t been updated for ages (correct me if I’m wrong), and I’ve found them to be the culprits for projects not opening or crashing due to an old version of iLok that they implement. Sadly, because of this, I stopped using them. I love the sound but for me stability and recall-ability comes first. And I worry when there’s not an update for a plug-in for over two years with such issues. I like Glow very very much. Initially l, I dismissed it but after playing with it, I fell in love and now I use it constantly. And let’s not forget the all-time-classics: Valhalla. I tried to talk about plugins that are more recent/I haven’t talked about before though :)
@martinbailey707
@martinbailey707 Год назад
@@DomSigalas PCM is absolutely rock solid on Pro Tools. Don't know about Cubase ;) At the end of the day it's a port from the hardware (which was thoroughly tested before they launched the PCM96). There shouldn't be any need for them to update it. This idea of devs updating their plugins every 5 minutes (because the internet affords them that luxury) doesn't mean that companies that don't are providing outdated software. If anything it says most devs don't bother investing in proper testing before release and make their paying customers the guinea pigs! VST3 is 15 years old and so is the PCM96, you would think they would be bug free and fully functional in the latest release of PCM bundle - 2016 (8 years later). Valhalla is great for the price but it is a poor mans Lex PCM. I have no need to double up on inferior plugins. I have (what I consider) the best of the best to cover all situations. PCM is better than Valhalla (it was in the spitfire shootout). I too liked Glow but it just doesn't have the definition (for want of a better word) as the original, which always put me off. The best way I can describe the sound is the difference between an object and a 3D render of the same object - it's got a kind of plasticky texture and doesn't quite look real (but you can't put your finger on why). That really is the sound of impulse responses in general for me. Thinking about it another comparison would be the difference between a guitar amp and an amp sim (nearly, but not quite and when you hear the real thing... not at all). It's fine for sound design (80s mock-ups etc) but not on a commercial release imo.
@lazul6611
@lazul6611 9 месяцев назад
@@martinbailey707 I've owned the PCM plugs since they were released. Sadly, you are incorrect. They need to be updated, especially on a Mac for m1 compatibility. And Cubase 12 got rid of 32 bit plugins so you can't even load them in Cubase period. Sadly, looks like abandonware.
