Fun fact for new hunters who are unaware, Lagiacrus is the Lord of the seas, just as Rathalos is King of the Skies. He debuted in Monster hunter's 3rd generation which introduced underwater combat, a very unique mechanic with a few flaws but some clear fixes that could've been made to bring it back. Ceadeus appeared at the end of high rank in MH3.

Can’t wait to see you react to the full Ceadeus theme, Monster Hunter Tri was my first game so whenever I hear it I get a huge dose of nostalgia. It was just such a special moment fighting this giant underwater almost whale-like creature and as such the beautiful melody will forever be burned into my mind

By the way, there are actually two themes for ceadeus. The lunar abyss is his theme at the start of the fight, and moonquake is the one where he gets serious and actually starts to fight you

Valstrax theme has my respect, but I'm so disappointed that ceadeus theme lost. Not only because it's my personal favorite, but because I felt that moonquake had the most room to remix. All the other themes are so complete already

I think the first phase theme really helps elevate the second phase. The first phase to me is all about ‘look at the majesty of this giant leviathan only ever mentioned in legend.’ Then second phase is almost feels like a chant or prayer in worship of it

Some of my honorable favorites Tigrex: Just the perfect theme for a vicious monster that just relentlessly dashes after you with the simple goal of running your ass over and thrashing you around. Nergigante: A great theme, you dealt with him once early on but only now are you fighting him in a true battle and you feel how strong he is and how tough this is going to be. Rajang: Return to Monkee. Just lots of bongos and a really catchy beat that always makes you want to dance, and also run for your life as he flails and spins and jumps literally everywhere. Alatreon: I'm not the biggest fan of the theme overall but there's a hyper specific part after the slower intro where the music starts picking up and getting really intense and I love that part, there's also a video someone made where they mixed the World theme and the MH3 theme together and the mix of the intense brass classical instruments with the electric guitar make that section SO perfect.

Beyond happy to just see Bazel show up, but in all honesty every theme just has it's own special place I find. Kinda shocked that Kulve Taroth's theme wasn't suggested, also that EDM track of Valstrax gave me major Metroid vibes. Great video as always!

The wildest theme from world that probably should have made it in is "Keeper of Hades - Vaal Hazak" Regal, devilish, respected, but undeniably monstrous. It decays so that others can live- and it will fight to remind you of this to its death.

Ceadeus's theme Moonquake is probably my favorite theme in the entire series, because just like you said, it makes it feel like you are fighting a god, which makes the fight super memorable. I can't wait to see your reaction to the full theme, tbh.

Dude idk how you have such a refined ear. It must be years of training but I'm constantly impressed by the things you pull out of your observations. I listened to many of these themes before fighting a lot of the monsters cause after World I was hungry and just went back and found a RICH RICH ost of glorious songs. and Mizutsune's always read as a dance to me. If you like that you'll LOVE Great Maccao's monster theme, it's also playful and feels like a dance/engagement but in a totally different flavor, more intense for sure, but just as locomotive. And then that brilliant read on Ceadeus', no shade to your pronunciation i just always said it as Sea-Deyoos. like Deus as in 'god'. As he's an ocean elden dragon whale thing, felt appropriate. But it's song IS special. Those harmonies are so on point, the song has this majesty and culture'd tone to it is the only way i can phrase it. can't help but feel we'd be good friends, as I'm also a singer and into VG music ahaha. my absolute favorite thing about the Bazelgeuse theme is how the opening strings imitate the sound of an air raid siren, really pulling you into the bomb run military theme of the whole track

One of Mine personal favorite themes from mhw is Kulve Taroth‘s. Imo the music captures the monster's theme and characteristics perfectly and I love how different sections of the theme weaves into each other. Sounds both majestic and epic at the same time.

I think my favorite part of zinogre's theme (the original iteration in this video, specifically) is that it's orchestral with an electric guitar with a distinct LACK of electric guitar wankery; it's a part of the orchestra rather than standing above it and contributing its unique voice as color to the whole piece. I would absolutely recommend listening to everything you can from the 3rd generation of monster hunter games (tri, portable 3rd)

Mizutsune has my second favourite theme, just after Valstrax.

Malzenos theme would have been a great contender for the list, and as much as i would have love to have the frontier version of crimson fatalis's theme in the list as well, i vet that theh were only including main-line monster themes Edit: HOLY i did not expect the EDM valstrax thats so wild XD so cool of capcom lmao

I’m honestly surprised I didn’t see Dire Miralis’s theme up there but now that I think back on it that honestly makes sense because I doubt as many people have heard it. Especially the newer fans of the series like me.

i really think you should definitely give a listen to the diva songs, shes a in universe singer who sings in wyverian (monster hunter language) of wich ceadeus theme is technically one of them too. "soul of the world" still gives me chills to this day, it captures the wonder of monster hunter and its world for me perfectly. even if its not for a video its still a good listen. i do wish i knew who the actual real life singer was.

The theme song of the monsters is really great, especially when the hunter rides on the back of a monster. There’s another dynamic version of the music with added drum beats that I really like.

Bagel’s theme is so iconic that whenever I hear it, I get the instant reaction of panic.

10 in comparison to 20 years worth of music is simply way too puny to compile the best of all the soundtracks. This top 10 definitely has taste but no room leftover unfortunately for other bangers like Malzeno, Shara Ishvalda, Gore Magala, Nargacuga, etc. Without a doubt though, I'm so happy the fanbase has a keen sense for good music, giving Valstrax the victory for this poll. Mine personally would've been Mizutsune because I owe the monster a lifetime of gratitude for kicking my ass in the base Rise demo & shaping me into a professional hunter for the past 3 years now. Fun fact, fatalis' theme in world actually incorporates the battle theme of the forest and hills, the first area in the first game. Really coming full circle. Especially cause fatalis was the final boss of the first game

I love how the Zinogre theme evokes such a feeling of a prowling hunter that strikes suddenly. So spot on, especially in the MHW version

Mizutsune's theme feels straight out of Pokemon Conquest for me. That sort of feudal Japan, vibe like the Mizu is the lord of that territory, fighting another for it. Really nice.

I'm sad that Melzeno and Namielle didn't make the list.

I've got to say, with monsters like Valstrax and Gore Magala they really nailed the cool monster look and it shows in them being fan favourites, even if they're not your favourite I think it's easy to appreciate why people feel they're so cool

Its something so small but adds to the fear of fatalis' theme After the first 3 sharp choir stings that it does, theres this rapid like rise in pitch before it continues the rest of the melody and it gives this insane feeling that even the choir is scared of fatalis at 4:48 if you need a direct reference of what i mean

Ceadeus' theme is so beautiful that water combat was only in 3 but 4 had a hall where the singer would sing Ceadeus' theme, not sure if it was changable and I kept it on or if it was just that song

When you listen to Ceadeus's theme please listen to "Everlasting Words" with it. It's not technically a 3rd phase theme or anything but it's sort of an ending to Ceadeus's theme and more of just to be listened to instead of to play during the fight, since it plays in the cutscene as soon as you've defeated Ceadeus (which is the ending cutscene of the game's singleplayer mode). When they did an orchestral version of Ceadeus's theme, they played Everlasting Words along with it. If you listen to it all, you'll understand why I say this Edit: it would also be fun if you did a video comparing any one of the monster themes which have been redone, and you give your thoughts on which one you like the best and see how it's been redone. Tigrex's theme has had 4 different renditions and there's a good few which have had 3 or 2

Alatreon, Malzeno and Magnamalo are personal favorites that should've been on the list imho but I'm happy with all the contenders! And I'll always prefer the Rise version of Mizutsune's theme because it just goes so well with the more Japanese instrumentation and choir.

I love Safi's theme. Its been living rent free in my head ever since it came out. Long live the Gentle Simple Sailor!

I started in World, never heard Ceadeus before! Awesome.

I think it's worth noting that Lagiacrus's theme has the unique distinction among the Top Ten for being... a map theme. It's not Lagi's theme exclusively. It's the _basic battle theme of the map._ People just love and miss Lagi _that much._

all those are marvelous, i keep my Bazel theme close to my heart anyway. It was the first theme that made me feel something as I discovered Wolrd first. The feeling of "oh god no! what is this! oh shit shit shit!" and then you died XD

Honestly I would have loved for ceadus moonquake to win because the vocals are fucking unreal and magical. But alas im happy valstrax won because the theme is also amazing and im glad zinogre didnt beat the poll again 😂

yo i havent played monster hunter tri but I have seen tons of vids on cedeus and listened to the ost, and to give you the rundown. Basically cedeus is an elder dragon who's insanely old and has a routine of smashing its head against entire islands to break it's horns when they get too big, sorta like rats chewing their teeth down. So your job as a hunter is less to slay the cedeus and more to do the biggest animal grooming job yet known to mankind before the animal smashes into the base of your home island so hard the whole thing sinks.

Now he is obligated to analyze Ceadeus and Lagiacrus 😂

Safi is definitely up there for my faves, both in fights and the music itself

Lagiacrus and Ceadeus were the two monsters that got me into monster hunter in the first place so their themes have a special value for me.

I can nearly hear a good J/K-pop artist or band sing on the silver star's 20th anniversary, but the old theme is a banger. On another note, I thought White Fatalis theme would be in there, but every theme in top 10 is really impressive.

I honestly wouldn't mind an Event Quest in the future where the EDM version of Valstrax theme plays.

What I find amusing is that Lagiacrus' theme is a "generic" theme! But some of the generic location hunting themes are really good! Rise's volcano theme I think is way better than a lot of other monster themes we get too. Alas, no love for the fated duel against Shagaru Magala, best Low Rank plot ever.

My problem with Ceadeus’s theme is that it feels like the good part is frontloaded, and then it kind of meanders until it loops. It’s also pretty short, but it loops very well, which helps disguise the length. I voted Allmother (that harmony never fails to give me chills), but unfortunately she didn’t even make the top 10. I don’t know how Deserted Island (Lagiacrus doesn’t have his own theme, he uses the music of whatever map he’s on, and Deserted Island is the map he’s most associated with) managed to beat out both her and Ibushi.

My personal favorite is Zamtrios from 4U. Its so great. Wish the 3DS games got more love nowadays

Gen 2, 3, and 4 have the most iconic, simple, yet powerful music. Please please please listen to a few if you have time. Especially Pokke village theme (the Gen 2 version)

To be honest, I'm not TOO surprised Valstrax won. I feel like while some of the other monsters had better "Songs" (I know quite a few people said Caedus should've won) I think Valstras has the best BATTLE theme. As in... I'd probably be willing to listen to other songs just in my day to day, or when taken in a void by themselves. I definitely feel Valstrax is the best when you take the idea of the "Hunt" into account.

Safi'jiva might have my all-time favorite boss theme in any game, not just Monster Hunter. It definitely wasn't my favorite fight, but the song made it easier to farm.

I think what makes Mizutsune's theme so good is definitely the fact that his theme feels less like a fight and more like a celebration or a dance. Like you said, the percussion elevates the tone from any seriousness while still commanding respect through elegance and grace. 10/10 monster, I understand why Valstrax won tho

Even though I don't personally agree with Valstrax at #1, I think that's one of the only themes that truly encompasses the feeling of playing Monster Hunter. I personally love Fatalis's and Safi's themes the most but that's because I'm such a sucker for compositions that invoke a heavy feeling of dread, danger, and an incoming cataclysm; but those don't necessarily represent the whole of Monster Hunter like Valstrax's theme does.

The ancestral steppe has a hidden gem part to it, would be fun if you gave it a shot ❤

A bit disappointed that Arch Tempered Velkhana's theme wasnt in the top ten. As much as I love the base version of its theme for me personally, Arch Tempered's just connects me to the Velkhana more. Especially hearing both the reverse chave and mount themes. High recommend you check out Velkhana's Medley posted by That Chimichanga if you really want to hear the story of Velkhana through song

I wanna challenge mr ball of meat to listen through all of the village themes and try to find their thematic flavours. All of the village themes have their flavours are just so fantastic and a great way to relax!

Ibushi’s or Allmother’s theme SHOULD’VE made it. Sadly, I didn’t even know there WAS a theme vote because life was kicking my ass at the time and I wasn’t checking the MH socials often. But at the same time, I guess they don’t have as wide appeal, partly due to being newer monsters and partly due to the style being very different from everything else in the series.
